I am in love with your art style. As a novice (novice used nicely because I have 0 art skills), any advice on how to get to your level?
hello lovely anon! i’m honestly concerned about your eyesight because idk what level are you talking about here. it’s a nice compliment, and i thank you for that, but i truly don’t think i’m that good.
to answer your question properly, practice it’s all i did. and, unfortunately, studying anatomy. i know it’s a bore, trust me! makes you want to quit everything, in my case i just needed to make it fun. (i did that by choosing a pose and drawing it with a specific character in mind, so the brain thinks it’s doing something fun while also learning new stuff).
TRACING IS YOUR FRIEND!!! not your enemy. so trace that pose, those muscles, that face because it helps you understand shapes and measurements. just in case, if you decide to trace from other artists, especially when they did some interesting composition pieces, DO NOT post them, even if you credit them, it’s rude to say the least. it’s your own personal studies, your little secrets of knowledge.
don’t forget to take brakes, especially when doing a piece. try to take 30 mins or more brakes between sketching, line arting, etc. the eyes are a bit cheeky and they get used to what they see, especially when looking at something for a long time: this might prevent you from seeing some mistakes, that’s why breaks are important. and also for your well being, DRINK!! and GO PEE!!!

hope this is actually useful in some ways, i know what i’ve said it’s redundant, it’s what all artists say all the time, but unfortunately there’s no magic way around it.
