Maggie Philbrook, a brave and beautiful young girl, lost her battle with cancer yesterday. Maggie was one of the first people to see “THE FAULT IN OUR STARS” thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and 20th Century Fox. I was able to Skype with her briefly after she watched the film and was devastated to learn she had passed away the following day. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.
"Yesterday started off on a high. Maggie’s Make A Wish was granted! I can’t say much, as there’s a bit of a gag order. Maggie’s wish was to see an advanced copy of a movie that isn’t due to be released until June. She was able to choose a limited number of people to see the movie with her, and four of her closest friends came to share the day with her.
The conference room we used was transformed, thanks to Maggie’s Wish Granters, Maureen Cronin & Kim Brady. There was a red carpet for her to wheel in on, snacks, treats, and monkeys galore. Maggie loved the movie!!! She also facetimed with the director afterward. She was a bit overwhelmed, and couldn’t say much, but he knew she enjoyed it.
Everyone was having fun and eating pizza and cake, when suddenly Maggie started to have a seizure. The kids were moved to another room, and a slew of medical staff came in. We ended up in the PICU, where Maggie continued to seize for a long time. She did eventually settle a bit, but we knew the end of her journey was near.
Just before five o’clock this morning, Saturday, February 1, 2014, our beautiful girl lost her hard fought battle. One year ago today, she came home from school, took a nap, was sick after dinner, and unknowingly began this journey. She fought until the end, and is now at peace. Soar with angels, my Love!! We love you, and will miss you always. xoxoxo”
