History of Beer Steins

The official name for German glass beer boot is bierstiefel. However the glass boot as a long history bouncing from country to country. This glass boot concept originated in England. The design was slightly different. The English glass boot is said to have a silver rim, and had spurs and straps, and were referred to as stirrup cups. German Beer Steins

In the 14th Century, the German beer stein started out as a mug. In addition, to prevent sickness and flies from the beverage, pewter lids were attached to the tops of these mugs.
