Recently Discovered Bands
Over the past few months, I have come across a few bands that have caught my eye in a couple different ways. They’ve all easily been added to the regular flow of music that I keep playing all day.
Hands Like Houses I was scrolling through my YouTube homepage when my eye was caught by Hands Like Houses’ recently released video for “Overthinking.” Something about it intrigued me (maybe it was the thumbnail; perhaps the fact it was on the Hopeless Records YouTube page, a record label I am quite familiar with), so I decided to check it out. I guess it was a good idea because I haven’t stopped listening to that song since.
Our Last Night Another result of my YouTube scrolling, I stumbled upon a cover Our Last Night released of Selena Gomez’s song “Back To You.” The video features winners of a contest that the band held, and the blend of the different vocalists and the rock nature of the band gives the song a whole new vibe that the original didn’t have.
Sleep On It This summer I attended my first Warped Tour (remember this post?). Before this, I created a Spotify playlist of all the bands that I wanted to see perform. I had heard of Sleep On It a few months before when they released a song called “Fireworks,” which features vocals from Derek from State Champs. I checked out a few more of their songs and discovered that I really liked their music. While I didn’t get to see them perform at Warped Tour, I’m still glad that I came across this band.
This Wild Life This acoustic-folk-rock band is a departure from the usual bands in my music library. Now, this isn’t exactly a ‘recently’ discovered band; I first heard of the band a couple of years ago when I listened to “No More Bad Days”. I was obsessed with that song for a few weeks, but I never gave any of their other songs a chance. When I heard they were going to be playing at Warped Tour this year, I added a few of their songs to my aforementioned playlist and immediately became obsessed with their other songs too (particularly “Headfirst”). They were definitely one of the best bands that I saw play that day at Warped.
