Marco stands in the centre of the room looking baffled as lights are draped over his arms carefully to avoid being tangled for the third time. He looks from the lights to the tree and back to you once more as you continue your mission to turn the home into a mini version of Santa’s grotto. He daren’t speak, the last few times he’d tried to reason with you, you’d shut him up by cramming a cookie into his mouth. After four cookies and a quick burst of sugar rush, Marco has chosen to remain quiet.

“You’re acting as though you’ve never seen a Christmas tree decorated before.” You tell him, unable to hide your dissatisfaction at his expression any longer.

“I’m not saying that.”

“So, what are you saying?”

“I thought the lights were supposed to go on the tree, not a person.” He quips and you almost launch the bauble you’re holding at him.

“You said it was a piece of cake to put them on.”

“And I quickly took that back after the first time. Fully retracting my statement after the second.” he adds.
