hi!! my name is bee, i'm fifteen, and i'm currently living in the brielle institute medical ward! i have lots of friends, but i could always use more! besides, my dads say i need some more people friends. . . i don't know what THAT means but, oh well!!

The younger girls excitement made Tara’s smile brighten. It was contagious almost and it was definitely sweet. “I don’t see why you wouldn’t.” She said, of the textbooks. “I’m sure you’ll have a lot of fun and learn lots of stuff.” She couldn’t say she had met someone who’d been so excited over schooling before. “I take it you’re looking forward to it.” It wasn’t poised as a question since the answer was pretty obvious.

bee let out a squeal, jumping up and down; ❝ YAY!! i can’t wait. . . ❞ eyes were glittering, excitement flushed in her cheeks; ❝ looking forward to it?? are you KIDDING-  of course!! ❞

Donovan’s eyes followed to where the girl had pointed. It was just a lamp. A regular lamp that the boy had passed by almost everyday, though he had never given it much though. But he couldn’t help but blush back just a little. The people he grew up around were more family than anything, and if he did get a complement, it was never in the same tone as her. Even if she was saying the lamp had said it. “O-oh…” the boy laughed as he dragged his eyes back to the brunet. “Well.. Thank you, erm Mister Lamp.” he laughed embarrassed. “My um… Father,” he always used the word father loosely, but it was harder to explain who Sir was. “Used to say it looked like dirt on my face.” 

bee felt her heart stammer in her chest, clearing her throat and feeling a small smile coat her lips. he didn’t think that was weird...? usually people taunted bee when she told them about her inanimate friends. ❝ why would he SAY that?? ❞ bee inquired, a frown replacing the momentary smilee. ❝ i don’t they don’t look like dirt at all. . . what an awful thing to say to somebody. ❞

Tara smiled at the girl as she listened to her talk. It was comforting to know not everybody was scared or frustrated at being in this place. “I’m glad you like it.” She said gently. “Yep. You get to go to classes. I’m sure you’ll like it and you’ll definitely make friends if you want to.”

❝ we do ?? oh that is SO exciting!! ❞ bee chirped, clapping her hands together excitedly. ❝ i can’t wait! what is it like?? i haven’t been to a real school in a while. do i get a DESK?? and textbooks?? i’ve always wanted my own textbooks!!❞

Lei was blown away by the kindness of people. Apparently all of her clothes had been infested with bed bugs, but she’d been given a whole box of secondhand dresses and tshirts and skirts, and she loves them. Similarly, with no toiletries to call her own, some kind charity had given her a bag with all of the basics, including a coconut scented shampoo. It’s actually just a generic drugstore brand, but Lei can’t believe how soft her hair is, and how good it smells. She’d usually just used dish soap for her hair. Unable to stop touching it, tossing her head about and grinning, she turns to the girl nearby and says, “I never knew what coconuts smelled like before, but it’s so good! Can you believe they let me have the whole bottle of shampoo for myself?”

❝ ── i love coconuts! coconuts and strawberries, banana and mango. . . ❞ bee trailed off, thinking of her FAVORITE fruits as she rocked on her converse-clad feet. ❝ i brought my soap from home, ❞ bee enthused, clutching a handful of her own locks to lift in front of her nose. ❝ ── my hair smells like peaches! my dads also gave me a little loofa with a bunny face on it & some glitter bodyspray. i went on A LOT of adventures with the horses and the animals so they always made sure i had stuff to get me all clean again.❞

Her smile could light up a room, that was for sure. “Scary?” He asked lightly, taking a slow step to approach the brunette. She was a breath of fresh air, that was for sure. “Yeah, it’s true. It’s pretty great, if you ask me. Although I’m sure some others beg to differ.” He paused for a moment, biting his lower lip lightly in thought before going for it– “Did you need any help getting settled? I’d be more than happy to give you a tour of the place, if you’d like.”

❝ uhuh! they said this place gave them the. . . . heebie jeebies, whatever that means. they’re always using silly words. ❞ when the boy answered her question about SCHOOL, her face lit up. ❝ it IS?? oh my gosh. . . are there classrooms?? do we get books? ❞ bee gasped, cupping her face; ❝ do we take. . . spelling tests??❞ her face was glowing & she was grinning ear to ear.❝ getting...settled??❞ bee furrowed her brows, then understood what he was asking, resulting in a deep blush and a nervous giggle; ❝ ──oh, uh. . .s-sure, thank you. i’d really like that. wouldn’t wanna, y’know, get . . . lost.❞

Nevaeh turned around in order to look at the curtains. She wasn’t that amazed by them, they were pretty but definitely not the prettiest so she didn’t necessarily agree completely with the new girl. The brunette nodded slightly after she heard her question. Nevaeh frowned, growing quite curious after what she told next. “People friends?” She asked. What other kind of friends were there? 

❝ well....yeah. i have plenty of friends who aren’t human, ❞ she didn’t specify what she meant, ❝ ──i suppose they want me to make friends with... people. they said it will help me when i get out of here, so i’m going to do the best i can to make as many people friends as i can! ❞ she clasped her hands together, grinning; ❝ i’m bee, by the way. who are you ??❞

Liam blinked up at her and shook his head a little. “I don’t-…um, I mean I’m new so I don’t really….I don’t know anything. I’m not the right person to ask?” his voice slipped up in inflection and he winced a little, cracking his fingers with his thumb. “Sorry. I-…sorry.”

bri could do nothing but stare at the girl for a second. how someone could be so PURE was a mystery to the tiny blonde. “you’re just a bucket of sunshine, aren’t ya, kiddo,” abrielle snorted after a moment. she considered her for just a minute longer, then shrugged. “you’re weird. i like you. fine, c’mon.” gesturing for the brunette to follow, bri turned towards the library, as requested. 

❝ my dads actually always told me i reminded them of a bumble bee, ❞ the brunette informed the other proudly. bee didn’t react negatively to the other calling her weird. in fact, she didn’t react at all. bee was used to receiving critiques like that. she considered them COMPLIMENTS. ❝ ── really?! ❞ and just like that, short legs were scrambling to catch up as the other began to walk, an ounce more pep in her step; ❝ i’m beatrice, but everyone calls me bee. whats your name??❞

He smiled, genuinely. It was small but it was there. Probably the first smile since he’d been admitted. He was pretty sure she was the same age, but there was an innocence to her that he couldn’t help but admire.

“Don’t get attached.” Samuel hissed.

“You’re very smart,” Adam told her, looking down at his feet.

Samuel was right. Every time he got his hopes up, every time he got attached it went badly. For everyone. So he jammed his hands in his pockets, but followed her anyway.

❝ thank you, my dads think so too!! ❞ the other was practically SKIPPING down the hall, making sure each step she took was in a different tile on the linoleum floor. ❝ i wanna know how to spell every word in the dictionary. people hae told me it’s impossible but i think i can do it and become the best. speller. He couldn’t recall how he managed to befriend the girl, let alone follow her around the place. But she was soft and sweet and Adam found him self just a little more relaxed with her bubbly behaviour.

“I think there’s a school here,” Adam guessed, “I’m sure you could ask someone.”

He chose to disregard her statement on the aesthetic of the place, clearly feeling different than her. He could only hope she missed it.

❝ i love school !! ❞ bee informed her new companion with a licorice-laced grin, pinks drawn back to reveal rows of pearly teeth as the giddy grin on her face refused to soften. ❝ i especially love english- and spelling !! i am very good at spelling; i won EVERY spelling bee at my school. . . until my dads pulled me out, that is. ❞

❝ ──y’know, my dads said this place would be SCARY but...i already like it here! the curtains are very nice.❞ though, of course, bee wasn’t COMPLIMENTING the interior design. . . unknown to the other, she was referencing how the curtains had greeted her and gifted her a warm welcome.  ❝ is it true i get to go to school while i’m here ?? i was homeschooled for a while and, well, my dads said i should make some PEOPLE friends. whatever THAT means. . .❞
