It was a beautiful sunset. It really was. And at first Jude found himself getting lost in the view, his emerald hues shining as he sort of just reveled in the warmth from the setting sun. The wind rustled his hair pleasantly, a content sigh passing through slightly parted lips as he hummed under his breath. He rarely got outside, and when he did, it was hard for him to travel far. Which was why he was grateful he had Bri at his side to give him a much needed push. Feeling her rustle a bit to the side of him, he turned, a soft smile slowly forming on his lips as he took in the sight of the sun hitting her hair, turning it the perfect shade of gold and honey. Suddenly, all desire to look at the sunset had vanished and in its place was a new sort of desire, this one more personal and far more important. He’d stare at the girl in front of him for hours if it was allowed, that much was certain.
And then she was talking about the sun setting and all he could pay attention to was the spark in her eyes and the way her hands seemed to move with enthusiasm as she spoke. The sharp tone of her voice cut through his dazed thoughts, making it easy for him to tune in to every single word that left her soft lips. She was smart–impressively smart, and Jude couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride well up inside of him at that realization. He’d never doubted that she was smart, but this was a new side to her that he hadn’t yet witnessed… yet now he was very glad he did, because he loved it. He loved listening to her speak, and watching the way she became so passionate over the things she cared about. He could listen to her for hours on end and not get bored, he was sure of it. “No, it’s not dumb. It’s amazing.” His response was genuine as he turned to face her, his body seeming to tower over hers effortlessly. “You’re amazing,’ he whispered, his eyes automatically drifting to land on her lips.
For a moment he wasn’t entirely conscious of his actions. Before he could stop himself his hands flew up gracefully to cup her cheeks, his thumbs brushing against her jaw. Green eyes fluttered shut as he pulled her close, gently yet with determination, his lips crashing against hers. Strong hands slowly traveled her body (modestly), one finding its way to rest on the small of her back as the other settled at the back of her neck. Maybe this was too fast, maybe it was too much, but it felt right and, God, he didn’t feel like passing up one more good thing in his life. So he kissed her gently, the way she deserved to be kissed. By the time he pulled back, his heart was racing unevenly in his chest and his eyes opened slowly, his warm gaze taking in the blonde beauty in his arms.
the moment was PERFECT. the compliment, whispered like a prayer; the setting sun bathing them in red and gold; and the kiss. it felt like the sun’s rays were igniting them as their lips met, filling Bri with electricity to her fingertips, where her hands snaked around his neck. gold was their color, she decided, smiling against his lips. in Bri’s mind, thanks to a deep obsession with art, everyone and everything had a color, and gold was theirs
she pulled back slightly, arms still around his neck and a breathless giggle slipping past her lips. she was oddly nervous, biting her lip as she drew back further to rest her hands on the ledge she was sitting on, looking down and letting her hair fall in front of her face, hiding the blush on her cheeks. her head was spinning, her emotions swinging wildly. she liked Jude. really liked him. she’d had her fair share of flings and flirtations, but nothing had ever felt real. everything in her life had been on a clock; every relationship was started with the caveat that it would be done as soon as she was shipped off to the next foster home. commitment issues? meet your maker.
but being with Jude felt SOLID, and permanent. in a way that nothing had, not even before she got shipped off to foster care. she didn’t want him to be another fling, another casual relationship that ended as soon as she got bored or self-destructed. and it TERRIFIED her. she sat there on that ledge, mind racing as she realized she’d never had a relationship that she didn’t sabotage. she was bad at relationships. she was bad in general.
but -- didn’t she deserve to at least try? didn’t she owe it to him to not shut this down until she knew what he was thinking? that seemed reasonable. she wasn’t sure how long they sat in silence, bri’s head reeling as the last bits of the sun finally set, but finally she took a deep breath and forced herself to meet his eyes.
“well,” she said, laughing in an attempt to seem far more casual then she felt. “what are, uh - what’re you thinking? ‘cause i have a lot of thoughts, but i think i have too many thoughts and now i can’t think, so uh...?” she spit the words out all in a rush, then bit her lip, blushing again when she realized that the way she was tripping over her own words was anything but casual. nice one, Willis.
dear--sunshine:
Right, of course she wasn’t dreaming. Noah supposed it didn’t make much sense for dead girls to dream. How nice that would be compared to the harsh reality of disappearing. The stinging in her wrists reminded her that was what she wanted, that was what she was begging for when she’d taken a blade to them.
“Sweet eyes.” Noah’s own eyes narrowed slightly. How dare someone call her Charlie sweet, she already knew that and no one else needed to observe it. Blinking, Noah calmly reminded herself this was simply a way of describing him. Nonetheless, the blond decided to keep a lookout on the other just in case her innocent love interest stumbled into her company.
This was nearly forgotten however, at the information presented. Not that she hadn’t known that was what happened to suicide-survivors, it was just that Noah hadn’t exactly planned on being a survivor at all. She had taken a plan A and plan B, but of course Charlie had been smart enough to guess that. It would have been fool-proof if he hadn’t had followed her. Damn him, too curious for his own good. “I’ll do as I always do. I’m so sorry, yes I understand, it’ll never happen again,” She mimicked.
bri’s lips quirked at the possessive tone in the other girl’s voice. “don’t worry, sister. he ain’t my type.” charlie, to her artist’s mind, was pastel blues and silvers and muted off-whites. it was a nice palette but bri preferred gold and black and the warm amber tones she thought of when she thought of jude. “but yeah he brought you in. he was around and worrying too, but the nurses kicked him out to go sleep and eat.”
“eh, they don’t fall for that as easily anymore,” bri grimaced, leaning on the wall and looking thoughtful. “i don’t know what came over me it just happened gives you more long term therapy, but less staff oversight,” she offered, shrugging.

Unlike Abrielle, the brunette had ALWAYS aspired to be in charge – for as long as she could remember. Perhaps, that was why everybody in Brielle Institute had heard of Demetria Rivers. Similarly to school, the beauty had worked fucking hard for her reputation; doing anything that she could to diminish whoever dared step in her way and challenge her. Extremely protective over herself and anybody who backed her up, Demi was a force to be reckoned with and she wouldn’t take any shit from anyone. “Bri – you know that I would do anything for you. What is the point in having FRIENDS if you can’t make them a priority, right? Please – Nate would have never have known what to do with this space and power. He’s still learning. Don’t you worry, I have big plans to make this place beautiful and you can help, if you’d like… I wouldn’t trust anybody else.”
“ooh yay! - i say we turn it pink. like a light pink - it’s pretty and a girl power color,” as she spoke the blonde took a turn around the room, rapping her knuckles against the drab filing cabinet. “why did he even have this stuff in here? did he ever do work?” she’d never met Holmes, but she’d also never had any experience of him doing anything. at all. she grinned at the brunette. “i’m excited; with you in charge, maybe this place will actually turn into something GREAT.”
judexbelinski:
A giant grin seemed to be plastered on his face as he watched her, bright blue eyes shining with admiration as he watched the blonde spitfire in front of him. “It’s good to know you’re still you, ma’am.“ He didn’t have to say it out loud, but he had been secretly concerned that she might have hit her head around the same time she broke her wrist. He had no reason to worry such things, of course, but he did nonetheless. He already cared too much about her to watch her slip out of his arms before he could even get a steady grip on her. “I never said I wasn’t intimidated by you, sunshine.” His grin seemed to grow as he watched her bounce around, so confidant in everything she did and said. She was a marvel to look at, that was for sure–and he couldn’t seem to tear his gaze from hers.
As short as Bri was, she wasn’t as light as a feather. And while Jude was fairly strong, his weakened heart could only take so much. And so by the time they had reached the top of the stairs, he had somehow managed to not look completely winded. In fact, somehow he managed to appear totally fine, which was surprising even for him. The only sign of weakness was a small cough that was stifled into his arm and masked with a chuckle as he saw just how excited she was to be here at this time of evening. “For you, m’lady.” He held out the bag the she’d given him to carry. His attention was focused now on the sunset, his green eyes shining now in fascination. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d seen a proper view of the sunset. And while he knew his body was going to hate him for this, he couldn’t help but bask in the moment. He followed her to the edge of the roof, but instead of trying to give her a heart attack with recklessness he merely sat with his legs hanging over the edge, a soft smile on his lips. It was all he could do not to show how worried he was that she would fall and crack her head open. “Sit with me.” He took her hand gently, looking up at her with wide, patient, pleading eyes.
she took the camera out of the bag, doing her best not to draw attention to it. In her opinion, some of her best portraits were candid. She waited until he was looking at the setting sun, the light hitting his face and turning him gold, then brought her camera up and snapped a shot. Sunrise and sunset were her favorite parts of the day, except that bri was not a morning person, so really, it was only sunset.
she grinned as she drew her away from the edge to sit next to him. she got a thrill out of doing reckless things, and as much as she’d never admit it, having people that cared enough to worry about her felt nice. she sat side by side with jude, legs kicking against the edge of the building. camera at her eye, the blonde snapped a few pictures of the setting sun above the oregon treeline.
“did you know that the sun we see during the sunset is actually an illusion?” bri asked eventually, breaking the peaceful silence. she had never been one of the ‘smart kids’ in school, and had in fact garnered a reputation for being a troublemaker and struggling through classes. she was street smart, not book smart. in truth, however, bri had a small nerdy side to her, and atmospheric physics happened to be one of those things she knew about. mostly because it was important for photography. “the sun actually sets, but because of atmospheric refraction we see it setting about seven minutes later. sometimes when the sky is super clear, you can see both ‘suns’ as they set, one on top of the other,” she trailed off, realizing she’d been geeking out for a good minute. “i dunno, it’s dumb,” she shrugged, looking down and laughing it off.
biting her lip, she looked up sheepishly, and was startled to find that jude was closer to her than she’d originally anticipated. almost subconsciously, her eyes dipped to his lips, just inches from hers, and she sucked in a breath.
