“May the flowers remind you why the rain was necessary." ~ Unknown
@sweet-harmony
Besides being a beautiful photo, I love the quote.
Unless you're a bot you should follow @sweet-harmony
Spring? Don't worry, I'm sure it will be here soon.
The hawthorns were in bloom.
This photo has been languishing here for 7 years, and all of a sudden it has become very popular. I look at it now and my first thought is, "It should have been brighter". 🤷♂️
Algy @adventuresofalgy was utterly thrilled to receive this photo today from his good friend Bud @bwwhitney in New York State 😀
Bud has been closely involved in arranging an annual fundraising event at the Dan Sekellick Visual Arts Gallery, which is part of the Sand Lake Center for the Arts in Averill Park, not far from Albany NY.
This event takes the form of a silent auction, starting today 1st April 2026 and culminating in a lively reception, featuring the final bidding, on 26th April from 2 to 4 p.m.
This year the event features artwork and photos of birds, all to be auctioned to raise funds for the arts centre, so when Algy saw the call on @bwwhitney for donations of suitable images, he asked whether it might be possible for a rather unusual fluffy bird to participate… and was absolutely delighted when he was permitted to contribute this image of himself (above the tree), as illustrated by his assistant 😀
Although one can never be quite sure of anything in this world, Algy is almost certain that he has never appeared in public in New England before, and Algy considers it a great honour to be appearing with many other birds of all kinds at this very special event. (The photo only shows a small part of the whole exhibition.)
Algy and his assistant wish Bud and the Arts Center the very best of luck with their auction, and hope that they are able to raise lots and lots of useful money for the centre 💲💲💲😀
If you should happen to live anywhere near Albany yourself, Algy says do please check the exhibition out and participate in the auction if you can…
p.s. Now that Algy has managed to fly across the ocean to the state of New York, he is wondering whether perhaps, at times when the gallery is closed, he might be permitted to leave his perch on the wall for a short while and indulge in a visit to his dear friend Ludwig, who lives with @bwwhitney not far from the arts centre - and maybe they could even execute a wee shuffle off to Buffalo together 😀
Algy, thank you VERY much for your kind words and wishes. And thank you again to all of my friends in the Tumblr photography community who generously contributed image files.
I had asked for contributions from my Tumblr friends just in case we didn't have enough donations from local artists to fill the gallery. This was a new format for this fundraiser and we didn't know how many donations we would receive. Thanks to the generosity of YOU my friends, we had more contributions from Tumblr friends than we needed, as the local community was generous too.
Ludwig would LOVE to host Algy and his assistants (and anyone else who would like to join them) and while shuffling off to Buffalo is possible, New York City and Boston are much closer 😃
One of the No Kings Rallies today in Albany, NY
Good turnout on a cold and windy day, and there was a very loud caravan of cars constantly driving by, honking horns and displaying signs. Great energy!

Ludwig has donned his green bow tie and balloon decorations in preparation for Algy's birthday party! The temperatures in Ludwig's neck of the woods have been in the 70s F (23 C) for the last couple of days so there isn't much snow left, but tomorrow's high temperature is predicted to be only 35 F (2 C) so Ludwig will keep his hat on ;-)
@adventuresofalgy
Dear Tumblr friends,
As some of you may know, I'm not behind my own camera much lately because I am spending all my free time volunteering here, mostly as chair of the committee that administers the art gallery, but I also serve on the board of directors and help built theater sets.
SLCA is a not-for-profit community arts center offering theatre, music, visual arts, educational programs and more.
Once a year the gallery runs a fundraiser, and this April the theme is "Birds". Each participating artist donates their work which is available to the public through a silent auction that begins on April 1 and ends at the Reception at the end of April (date TBA). The Fundraiser benefits SLCA, helping with all its artistic endeavors.
All kinds of Bird-Themed art is welcome, but since I am a photographer I'm donating at least one mounted photo of my own. Why am I telling you this?
I'm hoping that a few of my Tumblr photographer friends might donate one of their bird photos to a good cause. I will get it printed and mounted.
Please DM me if you are interested .
Thanks
Ludwig wishes his good friend @adventuresofalgy joy of his daffodils. Winter still has upstate New York firmly in its grip.
