Lunasol is basically the term for that planet/overarching location which everything presides. Their current timeline is the after math of a war between the nations, caused by disruption of the balance between ying and yang, sun and moon, light and dark etc.
Tai Yang consists of martial clans, temples on each of the island's that are mostly seperate but do still operate under the palace military. They are a land that holds many gods, demi gods and the likes the royal court having been consisting of gods for centuries with no mortals having any play in this equation aside from being servants, maids butlers etc.
Mesyats at one stage despite its large size consists of more mortals, so in a war it would seem likely they are at a disadvantage. The main god of their land is their empress, and under her order there has been experimentations, alchemical revelations to turn mortals into gods. Many deaths have occurred in this endeavour, but there has been more success as their knowledge and abilities have increased.
With both countries exhausting the resources a general peace was reached before any side really could deem victory. There has been strained attempts at reconciliation and cultural exchanges though it leaves for very forced and awkward interactions among the countries while they both rebuild their nation's both literally and metaphorically.
Bai is a demi god who physically looks to be around early 30s, his mother was apart of the royal court, a river serpent god who took care of endeavours considering nature and the waters preservation while his father was a mortal who was apart of the royal military, having migrated from one of the most powerful martial clans. Bai once operated under his father's wing, following his path to become a soldier. Though upon his death in a civil matter among clans he was strucken with grief and wad instead moved onto more menial and non physical tasks resulting in his current position as royal scribe and confidant of the empress.

like I wanted him to have been yoinked and experimented on as a young teen ongoing into his adulthood but then with him being 27 now
I'm sure he mostly went because they said they could treat his sick mother and sister, and for several years the treatments had been keeping them stable but eventually stopped working and the both of them died while vitya got better/likely survived because of the experiments + medicine.
