Saw you post asking for coming out stories. I came out as bi to my mom just before I started dating my boyfriend. About a year or so later, I was visiting family with her and a conversation about lgbt+ stuff came up. (it was just her, me, and one of her longtime friends talking.) So I chimed in with my opinion as a bi individual in a het relationship. She was shocked (though thankfully accepting). Apparently the first time I came out, she thought I was just curious and asking about lgbt+ people in the world, and didn't realize it was me coming out to her. So I basically came out twice to my mom. Years later, I came out to my dad after my birthday dinner. We were hugging goodbye in the parking lot, and I basically said 'hey, mom knows already, I'm bisexual, bye love you' and then ran to go hug my brother. I think he got the memo and was cool, but it hasn't come up since.

About not crying during an argument : I still cry sometimes, but I am often able to hold it back using an emotional visualization technique I adapted from a fantasy novel. Basically I imagine a candle flame. When I feel myself getting emotional, I feed the emotion into the flame and let it burn away. Sometimes it flares up and gets so big and stays that way like a bonfire until I'm done. Sometimes it flares up and I immediately calm down and it becomes a normal size candle flame again. The other technique I use is imagining a locked chest. I put the unwanted emotion into the chest, and lock it tight. Later I can open it and deal with it, or push it into the void and get rid of it completely. The chest I imagine changes shape and size depending on my need. Some of them have a slot in the top that I can drop more emotion through as it pops up. Some of them are wood, some metal. Some have one lock, some have five or six locks. Basically I find that visualizing something in my mind help distract me enough that I can control my emotions but still listen and talk. It's like the split in my attention makes it so that I can't get overwhelmed. I hope this helps. Don't be too hard on yourself. 💖
