Saw this on FB and had to share. This is something I needed to hear.

When I was at my heaviest, I let it keep me from everything. Once I started losing weight, it gave me a new life. After gaining, I starting to get into that mindset again of locking myself away until I felt okay. I am so happy I came across this.

Day 1 - Again

How many day 1′s have I had? Far to many to count. Hopefully this is the last day 1. 

I’m scheduled to a vertical sleeve gastrectomy (vsg) on February 8th, 2021. Due to that state of US healthcare, I’ll be traveling to Tijuana, Mexico to have this done. But, that’s a topic for another post, another rant. 

While I wait to start my pre-op diet, I’ll be finishing up the nutrisystem food that I have left. It should be just enough to get me through.

My “Why”

Anytime I talk to someone about wanting to lose weight I get the same response “but why? You look great as you are!”, which is so very sweet and very appreciated, but there’s health reasons below the surface that you just can’t see. 

I’m 27 but I can’t run, jump, climb, or hike. I get winded going up stairs. I can’t walk up the hill by my house without running out of breath and knees locking up or hurting. My feet hurt more often than not. 

I’m 27 and I’m pre-diabetic and have high blood pressure. My cholesterol is high. I’m tired all the time (although, that might be due to my 8 month old, tbh). I have anxiety, depression and OCD. 

I don’t like myself. 

OK, that’s all fine and well, but it’s not like those are new things. So what changed? I had a daughter. 

My daughter is my “why”. 

I grew up watching my mother go on one diet or another. I remember her being on the cabbage soup diet for an entire summer. I still don’t like cabbage. I watched my mom try on dress after dress and never like how she looked. I watched my dad tell my mom she should work harder on the weight loss. 

The first time I went on a diet I was 13 years old. I’ve been on one diet or another since then - that’s 14 years of dieting. I’ve been overweight for most of my life, except for a period of time in high school when I was involved in sports. 

I do not want my daughter to grow up watching her mom have body image issues. I think a lot of the problems I have regarding food come from watching my mother. I don’t want that for my daughter. I want her to watch her mom eat healthy meals. I want to be able to run and play with her and not get winded. I want to be better for her. 

Maybe, along the way, I’ll find myself again.

Welcome to my little blog. I made this post as an accountability tool and sort of like an e-diary. Maybe that’s what all the cool kids do today anyways? Who knows. Not me. 

Anyways. My name is Melissa, I’m 27 and go by she/her pronouns. I’m a mom and an army wife, and I work for 911. I have two dogs, two cats, two horses and ten chickens! I love video games and reading, and am definitely more of an indoor gal than an outdoor one. 

 I want to make one thing abundantly clear from the get go Weight loss =/= Fat Hate. This blog is about body positivity, loving yourself, and my journey to being healthy. I am not healthy at my current weight. I’m pre-diabetic, have high blood pressure, and my back and knees hurt on a daily basis. I’ll go into that more in another post. 

So, Hi! Thank you for the follow or re-blog or whatever it is in tumblr land. I’m brand new to this. Maybe no-one will follow me, or maybe I’ll have a few followers. To be quite honest, it doesn’t really matter to me. I just needed a place I could post about my journey without judgement, and I hope to find that here.
