AFO is a self-aggrandizing insecure narcissist, working in the shadows, grooming the younger generation in his image, plotting, influencing. His biggest accomplishments weren’t his personal power, but what he cultivated around him. And the only thing that can stop it is the collective rallying against that. one of my biggest pet peeves in fanfic or writing in general is the copout where the protagonist does something bad like cheating, but it’s softened in the end because the person they cheated on actually found their true love at the same time… or something like that, you know the drill. But I also EQUALLY hate when the person the protagonist is with is actually an uncaring, evil douchebag the protagonist needs to be rescued from because that’s the only reason you’d ever want to find a new partner…….

we have a profound inability to talk about actual difficult nuanced topics to the point where everything is reduced to either being correct or an abject moral failing but if any of you actually went to therapy you’d know discussing and being exposed to everyday difficult topics and common human weaknesses makes you much more fluent and able to handle those situations when they inevitably come up. humans are flawed, commonly, boringly so, they’re animals doing relationship calculus constantly.

falling in love with someone else while you’re in a relationship is very common, and it doesn’t have to be for some extreme reason. I feel like if we had more examples of how to navigate that kind of thing in media people would be better off. And be less likely to cheat? Idk. what I’m trying to say is you should let your characters do bad shit without the soft mattress there to catch them in the end. Make them flawed and make them make mistakes. Make them human. Every story that has stuck with me for the past 20 years was at least a little fucked up and made me uncomfortable or challenged me in some way. Don’t get lost in the mid.
