Summary:

Dennis abandons a case, crosses the Irish Sea by Portkey, and threatens a superior officer.

Oliver paces a waiting room even though he's free to leave.

Neither of them can get to Colin.

Colin, meanwhile, is alone in a cell, going under, deciding whether the fight is worth it.

There's a plan to get him out.

It has Oliver's name on it.

The Lumina earns its keep. The Aurors earn their overtime. Colin earns a concussion, some broken ribs, and a pair of manacles.

And when he hears his full name for the second time this week, it's not a negotiation.

It's a DMLE arrest.

This is the end of Act 3.

After this chapter, everything changes.

"I don't understand the confusion," Colin said.

Oliver stared at Colin's rail card and Dennis's Auror I.D., read both twice, then pulled out his wallet.

"Bloody hell," Dennis said. "I'm Iwan, Col's Ieuan. What's the big whoop?"

Oliver flashed his own card.

Colin scoffed. "Why do you have a Young Person's Rail Card?"

"Same reason you do."

Both Creeveys gawked. Oliver's ears reddened. "Jog on. It's old."

"Clearly," Dennis said.

"Not the point. Ieuan. Iwan. My middle's Iain."

Nothing.

"It's the same name."

Still nothing.

"John!"

"Who's John?" Dennis asked.

Colin patted his brother's hand. "Apparently we all are."

I always wondered if...

I think in an interview, She Who Must Not Be Named said that Voldie couldn't feel love because he was conceived due to a love potion or whatever.

(If anything, faux love should be in his DNA.)

But... that's kinda nonsense. Plenty loveless intercourse have resulted in children with the capability of loving, and plenty of people born in stable relationships have perpetuated atrocities.

I think the issue was the abandonment.

That's the inciting incident that sends everything to shit.

So... what if Tom Riddle, Sr., took Tom and just abandonned Merope?

Around that time, guys were still concerned with legacy and producing an heir. Tom Sr. and Merope did just that. You'd think he'd snatch that kid up and turn his back on the woman responsible for the shenanigans.

How different would Tom Jr. be? Would he campaign against mind- and emotion-manipulating magic? How would this affect the Statute of Secrecy, which relies on Confundus and anti-Muggle Charms?

I'm not saying the world would necessarily be better... but it'd def be different.

In one, Oliver won't grass on Colin to the Aurors, not the trainees, not the pretty one, not even Harry. In the other, Tabinae has read Colin's file and built a confession-shaped door for him to walk through. All he has to do is agree to a murder.

Down the corridor, someone is making a spectacle of himself. The tea is probably fine, though.

Summary:

Colin arrives at Puddlemere with a folder of new evidence pointing at a referee who fought for inspection duties he never wanted in the first place. But with three attacks now in four days, the line between hunter and hunted is getting blurry. Oliver volunteers to talk to Blishwick anyway.

Probably a bad idea.
