saw a post on insta talking about how Javier's emo bangs also lines up with hiding his facial scars (similar to how he always covers his neck in public facing outfits) and oooooooo god he's so vain, but also so much to think there.

Why does he want to cover them up? Does he think they are ugly? He talks favorably to John about his scar, wanting him to feel better about having it, either b/c he genuinely feels that way or he just wants John to not feel upset b/c Javier felt similarly with his scars. Does he think they taint his image of wanting to look like a noble, honorable freedom fighter? That they make him scary and undignified? Reminds me how he wears his fancy clothing, yet underneath those gold toed boots he still has socks with holes in them. He tries so hard to seem presentable and noble but deep down has done things he's not proud of, lacks faith and direction over what is the right thing to do, lacks belief that the world is even worth fighting for. A cynic trying to be a romantic.

Then take into account RDR where he has his cut hair and open collar. Between games, you can physically see how jaded he gets and how he succumbs to his cynicism and lack of belonging or hope. He doesn't care about hiding his scars, stops pretending or believing he/the world isn't what he is b/c he doesn't give a shit.
