Telephone 1800 707 125 & Report Graffiti in Cabarita Beach
GRAFFITI will be scrubbed out faster across NSW, with the Government launching of a free hotline to report the "scourge of our community".
More than $100 million is spent each year cleaning up graffiti and the NSW Government says the hotline will help discourage would-be artists through faster reporting and clean up. "Graffiti is a scourge on our community and the cause of great anger for people who take pride in their surroundings," Attorney-General Greg Smith said in a statement. "The rapid removal of unsightly tags will discourage vandals by denying them the notoriety they crave." The hotline (free call 1800 707 125) will operate from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays. Each local government has been given an email address to receive referrals from the Graffiti Hotline and police will also be given the data so they can identify hot spots.

TEEN pests are terrorising Bogangar residents, holding noisy weekend parties and throwing bottles at anyone who complains. One resident is so upset at the misbehaviour that she is demanding Tweed Council do something about it. She was too frightened of reprisals to be named publicly, but said she had had enough after years of torment. ‘‘Most of the people in the area have now put up fences to keep the youths from running through their yards and there is a real element of fear in the community,’’ she said.‘‘The Cabarita kids have their own 2488 gang and on weekends there is a big crowd which comes down from Kingscliff to join them. ‘‘Whenever the police come out they are simply overwhelmed by the numbers, especially the way the village was designed with walkways between all the streets . . . and they just scatter.’’ She said she had also lobbied Tweed MP Geoff Provest to increase the number of police in the area but says she feels parents should be held responsible for the actions of their children. ‘‘The police know who the ringleaders are but catching them in the act is just so difficult,’’ she said. ‘‘The worst area is Barbara Rochester Park, which has about five exits so there is never a chance of catching anybody. ‘‘They also use the hard banksia cones from the trees there as missiles and nobody passing within their range is safe.’’ She said residents wanted the park shut down as it was no longer being used by families.
