Ana Habit- Tips (pls don’t follow these!)
“A minute on the lips is an inch off the hips” - this mentality is extremely dangerous! an ED on its own is a very dangerous disorder but smoking for weight loss will leave you in poorer health and if you end up recovering, you might end up with a life long addiction taking years off your life! pls do not smoke to lose weight, it’s not worth your life.
Dry fasting - being dehydrated is much worse then not eating and is very dangerous. Yes, maybe you might gain water weight but it will go down eventually. If you don’t drink water you might end up in the hospital with extreme dehydration or your kidneys might clog up and completely shut down. please drink water if you are going to fast and do not fast for longer then 24 hrs.
Purging- Please don’t purge! Although restricting is dangerous, purging can cause a lot of the similar dangerous consequences as the tips i listed above can do to you. Purging also ruins your teeth(permanently. seriously it’s irreversible damage) as well as messes up your digestion(often times permanently as well). I know people who have to take pills to digest their food for the rest of their life because of past purging. I also know people who had to give up singing/acting careers as a result of a messed up esophagus. Please, it’s not worth it at all, often times you don’t even lose as much weight as you would expect. You are killing yourself :(
Laxatives- Laxatives (in an abusive way) are the one of the most useless + dangerous weight loss tips as they don’t aid weight loss and they can really mess with your metabolism and digestive system when abused. By the time laxatives even allow you to uh, go to the restroom... that food has been digested and that is leftover digestive waste. That means the nutrients, the fat, everything... has already gone through your system completely. All the laxatives did was speed up the waste disposal portion of your digestive functions. Many laxatives pull water to aid bowel movement leaving you extremely dehydrated when abused. Other laxatives when abused cause your bowels and digestive system to depend on it for these functions to happen. In a way your body is addicted to this substance. This affects your system by causing certain functions to become overloaded or to shut down completely. For some, it leaves them chronically bloated and for others they can end up in hospitals/on certain medications or aids so that their system can do the simple functions we take for granted every day.
Tips to stay as healthy as possible
take your vitamins please! many anas die or become sick from nutrition deficiency. Especially in iron and vitamin, A, B, C, and D. As well as calcium but i recommend getting it from your diet because some calcium vitamins can cause calcification of your organs/arteries. Try and make room for calcium rich foods in your diet to prevent osteoporosis. If your vitamins require food, please eat some because those types require fat or lipids to be absorbed!
Count your macros, try and get more protein over carbs to feel fuller for longer as well as keep your hair and nails healthy. A lot of anas have weak hair and nails from protein and biotin deficiencies.
Get to a doctor as quick as possible if these happen!
Chest pain or discomfort.
Heart palpitations.
Rapid or irregular heartbeats.
Unexplained wheezing.
Shortness of breath.
Fainting or near fainting.
Lightheadedness or dizziness.
These are signs of cardiac arrest! they can happen at any weight/bmi
