On a normal Tuesday about now I would be surrounded by the ring of anvils as I do my other gallery tasks. Today I’m sitting in my room trying to focus and find the right words. And I guess what I have to say is...dagnabbit we sure do miss you and hope you are safe and healthy!! These pictures made me feel happy and hopeful for when we can be together making again...in person(and you better believe we are coming up with some ideas that we can’t wait to share with you for the meantime). One of the most precious gifts in our lives is to share our love of fire arts with you and we sure can’t wait to do that again! The Chicago Avenue Fire Arts Center is closing to the public until the week of April 13, including upcoming classes and studio access programs. If you are registered for an upcoming class, stay tuned for an email notification of rescheduled dates. If further delay is necessary, we'll keep in communication. This decision impacts artists and teaching artists who rely on CAFAC for parts of their livelihoods. We know that small businesses and organizations near and far are making the same difficult decision. We encourage those of you who can to support the resources that will help folks make it through this uncertain and unprecedented time. A great way to support the local arts community is the Emergency Relief Fund offered by Springboard for the Arts. This choice is a hard one to make as a small nonprofit organization, but we know that we do better together. We are standing in solidarity with our wider community, recognizing the need to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus and focus our efforts and resources on those who need it most. With great pleasure and excitement CAFAC is proud to present to you our next featured artist, Ashley Schilling. Schilling is a multidisciplinary artist based in Minneapolis Minnesota. Her works for this show focus on the capturing of time, space and place through casting and sculpture. She uses sculpture as a way to sit with a place she has spent time in or a self that she no longer is. The act of sculpting with and replacing items brought back from times spent away from city-based life create room in the current to spend time with these spaces and selves.
