The Portuguese language feels like liquid poetry. Yes, it can be harsh sometimes - it can be solid and hard to digest. But there is something… I love how “silêncio” (silence) sounds - how you prolong the word in “io” almost into oblivion - “ê” is harsh, but the rest of the word simply… goes into oblivion, into total silence. I like to play with my language, with the sounds - “oceano” is quite similar to its translation ‘ocean’, but mar (sea) sounds like a wave. Amor is similar to amour (love), but softer, I think - the ‘r’ sound is almost invisible. Portuguese feels like being touched by the waves. Mermaid is “sereia”, and it feels like touching the waves - as if the waves had given birth to that word.
