Art 101 Final Project
I’ll be picking up my final project from my art 101 college course today, and I have to say that I'm really pleased with it. It’s another self-portrait from an old picture before my senior year homecoming dance (which, by the way, wasn’t actually green but I was having fun with color). Since the final project was to redo one of our earlier assignments, I decided to redo my ‘artist imitation/inspiration’ piece, this time trying to imitate the style of one of my favorite artists, Alphonse Mucha. Which, by the way, is easier said than done in chalk and charcoal! Since Mucha pretty much started the art nouveau movement with his advertisements, you’ll probably recognize his style a mile away.
If you’re interested, hop over to my gallery where I’ve got it up as the featured image. Critique is welcome if you’re polite, but there probably won’t be any changes done to this piece specifically. (And yes, I know I’ve got some color smudging in there. Chalk pastels go where they want.)
As always, please do not repost my art anywhere without written permission from me.
Finished this one for my art class yesterday for a song interpretation assignment. I chose “Heart of the TARDIS” by Time Crash.
InkTober Day 2 - Tranquil
“A Little Nap”
Duo and Wufei, though you might have to hunt for the latter. ^_^
InkTober: The Mushroom Witch
Written for InkTober Day 1, with the prompt of ‘poisonous.’ I started with a picture, which then spawned this drabble idea.
Fandom: GW (AU) Genre: GT, fantasy? Characters: Duo and Wufei
Duo had heard of the mushroom witch, a half-fae expert on poisons and potions who lived deep in the woods. Everyone in the village knew about them, though… not in much detail. And honestly, he’d expected an old hag living in a rotting cabin covered in fungus. Not a tiny, young, and freaking hot man literally living in a mushroom. It was a big one, to be sure, and looked so poisonous and strange that he didn’t even want to go near it, but its resident could probably fit in his hand.

State of Me
It’s been a while since I’ve written here, a number of personal factors I won’t really be going into keeping me busy and zapping my energy. That isn’t to say that I haven’t been creating at all, however. So I thought that I might scratch out a ‘state of me’ post to catch up anyone who’s interested.
First of all, I’ve just begun my early prep work for NaNoWriMo. I have a plot in mind that I’m slowly fleshing out an outline for, a small collection of characters, and some ideas for a title. I’d like to have a proper outline well before the event starts this November so my brain can’t shut down and nope out on me again. You have been warned, braid. I know you can’t resist detailed outlines! Your creativity will be mine! Mwahahaha.
…
*Ahem.*
Another thing I’ve been up to has been making a dollhouse out of a pair of stacked bookcases in my room. Presently, I am working on a witch’s lab/basement with stairs coming down, a cobblestone store, and build-in bookcases. At least, that’s the plan. Progress is slow, but the floor is looking great so far, with over a hundred 'stones’ shaped out with Sculpey and painted.
Speaking of sculpting, I’ve been dabbling in some figure and prop making and having a ball with it. I’m particularly proud of some of the photo props I made.
In addition, I’m trying to improve my drawing abilities, largely in attempt to validate the body-kun figures I bought a few months back. They weren’t too cheap, but oh are they lovely. And also so I can draw the pretty (and occasionally porny) scenes I picture in my head. I’ll even be taking an art class starting in a few weeks at my old community college.
As a huge motivational bonus, a reader on AO3 sent a lovely review for one of my Gundam Wing fics a couple weeks ago. So its notebook has rejoined my day bag and I’ve made a couple pages of progress towards the next chapter. This was a fic I hadn’t touched for years, going to show just how much a few words can mean to us writers. The progress is slow, but it’s coming.
Things have been difficult, I won’t lie, but the drive to create doesn’t let go that easily after being fed for so many years. Which is a fact that I’ve been rediscovering in recent months.
Finally, as a heads up, I may be doing some restructuring of my blogs in the weeks to come, to make it easier for me to keep them active. This may mean combining some, moving others, and renaming a few. If you want to be sure not to lose any content you’re following, keep an eye on Coffeetailor, my main blog, for finalized details and links. Until then, I would love to hear back from people about what you like, what you would like to see more of, and other feedback, so it doesn’t feel like I’m talking to the void. And, of course, so I can give you more of what you’re interested in. Reblog comments, notes, replies, etc. Love them all and I can’t wait to see what you have to say.
Until next time,
Coffeetailor
I’ve been having some fun making mini figures the last few days, starting with the mermaid uptop and then the naga. These were both done on Monday, though I had to repaint parts of the naga yesterday. I didn’t like the original shade of his tail, so I repainted it, and then made the mistake of setting him right next to the paint on my ‘palet’ (a scrap of cardboard with plastic on it). Of course the table got bumped, he tipped, and went riiiight into the paint. So he got a new paint job.
Yesterday, I started on a little Eevee, finishing his paint job today. I’ll put varnish on all three tonight after work.
Work in progress sketch of the newly named Dorian trying not to be put in a box.
A day of sketching practice. Today’s “assignment” was braids and hands.

Quick sketch with pose reference. It’s very rough, but I can already see improvement between the starting blue sketch and the red oversketch, so I’m happy about that.
Pose reference came from @bodykunposeoftheday

A self-portrait I did for the “30 Days of Improvement Hell” art challenge, day one. I’m not entirely happy with the end result, but I was scribbling during breaks at work so yeah. Done in Krita, which has some fun brushes I’m still learning to use.
Quick doodle while I was trying out Sketchbook that I liked the end result of. Will definitely be using this program more often.
Please do not repost.
Took about three hours working from a photo I took of myself around last Christmas I think, and I’m really pleased with the result. Done in FireAlpaca on a Wacom tablet between guests at the hotel I work at.
Happy Halloween Season!
Alfred: [Is totally already decorating the entire house.]
Arthur: Isn’t it a bit early for that?
Alfred: Dude, no! Halloween season starts as soon as the leaves start falling! And I’m totally going to beat you this year when you start crying at how spooky everything is!
Arthur: Even with an unfair advantage? Some hero. [Smirks.] Guess I’ll have my work cut out for me then. One question though.
Alfred: [Half tangled in fake spider webs.] What?
Arthur: How did you find a pumpkin that small?

Progress picture. Did a quick color of the head for the heck of it. Also, armor hates me.
Quick sketch out of an idea I had. May reproduce it on my tablet later and try cleaning it up.
