Yelena crosses her arms, frowning at Clint. He must be delusional or brain damaged or something. She’s not sure at exactly what point she made it seem like she needed help, let alone that she wanted it from him. If anything, tying him to a chair and torturing him for information should have given the exact opposite vibe.
“Oh I’m not planning anything darling, I’m just wondering exactly how hard I must have hit you the other night. I didn’t expect there to be any lasting brain damage.” He’s rambling on about some nonsense about her, as though he knows her, knows anything that runs through her mind. The moment she hears that syllable she knows what follows, and she can’t help but narrow her eyes at him. “She told you.” She says shortly, and it’s not a question, just a statement of a very clear fact.
Of course she told him. Of course that traitor exposed the secrets of her home. The thought makes Yelena’s blood boil, makes her want to lash out at him all over again, hurt him until he finally tells her where Romanova is. But this place is crowded, there are people just outside, it’s not a risk she can take. “I don’t want you, Clinton.” She tells him simply, shaking off the frustration and returning to her usual, guarded demeanour. “I don’t want your help. There is no ‘we’. And unless you want another series of scars to match those terribly pretty ones I gave you, I suggest you drop this whole idea and leave me alone.”
Ah the jokes, maybe the true Yelena was more of a jokester than the one he met earlier. Kind of disappointing she wasn’t as much like this before, in another time they could have been friends. Hell, maybe he still could be her friend. “Thankfully I’m made of rubber, I bounce back easily. Nothing is going to stick, thanks for worrying about me.” Letting out a slightly frustrated sigh he crosses his arms. “Look, I’m not joking around. Usually yes, but right now I’m not joking. Is someone pressuring you? What’s going on Yelena? Why are you still doing things like this?” He want’s to reach out and touch her, but it doesn’t seem like it would be welcomed in any sense.
“She told me?” after the words tumble out of his lips he understands what she was trying to say. So there was definitely something going on between Nat and Yelena, he’s not really sure what. But it doesn’t seem like it was anything good. “Wait before you accuse me of something I may or may not have done can you explain what you think she told me?”
He’s not sure what had changed but Yelena was back to the scary murder vibes. Talk about mood swings, he can barely keep track of anything the girl was thinking. “You think I care about some pretty little marks? News flash, My body has plenty. I’m not some delicate maiden. I can handle myself. Maybe there isn’t a ‘we’ now. But I’ll still help you. No matter what it takes or how many knives you shove into me.” There were many words to describe Clint, and pig-headed definitely was one of them. He wasn’t going to give up, he’ll save this girl if it’s the last thing he does.
