"we need a joe rogan for the left" we literally have alex cooper and kylie kelce hosting massively popular podcasts where they bring on democratic politicians to boost their messages to their wide audience of normie women as well as talking frankly about politically-relevant issues that impact women such as birth control, sex and sexuality, and the division of labor in marriage and parenting -- oh wait you didn't mean that, you meant "a man with a podcast where it's okay to say slurs" not a "cringe lib wine drinking bitch with a microphone"
So stupid when a piece of fiction impacts your identity. Like ok bitcj. It worked. Now what.
also obviously under no circumstances do you have to "hand it" to the apple corporation with the way they're shoving their proprietary AI into every system update but one kudo (singular) i will balefully and disrespectfully toss at their feet is that changing phones is a lot easier than it used to be. i finally upgraded from my decrepit ass iphone 13 and was kinda dreading and putting off setting it up bc the last time i upgraded it was so annoying having to remember all my passwords and download app and basically start from zero but now they will literally just transfer it for you seamlessly and your photos and apps and even your dumb little widgets and screen setups are there immediately! it's basically frictionless now which was nice bc if one more annoying thing, no matter how minor, happens to me today i will probably start crying. and the last time i actually had to go to a tmobile store for them to get my data working right and my esim transferred correctly but zero issue there this time either. so that was really a nice surprise.
finally got my GLP-1 team to submit the prior auth renewal they've refused to initiate for literal months by telling them i'm leaving the practice as a patient and not to bother
PA was approved INSTANTLY upon submission so it was clearly not the vague "insurance issues" they were claiming for, again, months
they also claimed they "haven't connected with me since february" to which i was like well yes in february the earliest you could schedule a followup was may 25 which i accepted and then 3 weeks ago when i realized that was memorial day i called to ask if they could still honor the appointment and was told it was all good and then the saturday afternoon before i was informed that provider would not be available and the earliest they could reschedule was late june
leaving anyway and called NYU-langone to make an appointment with their weight management team now that i have an established PCP within their system and the scheduler was so nice and the first one they could offer me was literally on my birthday so i was like hmm that seems like a sign. approved
medical offices of manhattan: literally never again. started going there bc they were close to my old office and will never return. UGH.
Like I'm sorry but "I want to and I have ideas" is not a reason for me to vote for you to be one of a few hundred people who make the laws of the entire country (or state) I live in. I'm tired of "outsiders" I don't want a liberal Donald Trump I want actual experienced smart people who know what they're doing. I'm sorry if the people at podsa can't feel better about being insufficiently masculine for their own tastes. I actually take the world I live in seriously.
snoopy of the day
I just wanted to add this quote from the peppermint patty peanuts wiki page about Charles M. Schulz and his relationship with his gay cousin. The source here leads to a book that I did not read but the original source is Schulz's wife who confirmed this in an interview. If I can find the interview again I will link it here but uh. just in case someone tries to claim Schulz was a homophobe on this post again.

no no both are true
sometimes my Beloved Mutuals will rb a post about a certain character archetype and i will have to physically restrain myself from saying “yeah you would say that wouldn’t you”
jasper you don’t get to get away with this that easily.
new ask game: what’s the character archetype that makes you go “of course you would say that” when i post about it?
HUGE NEWS: murray caught a fly!!!!! i never thought i'd see the day!!!
anyway i can’t sleep and i can’t stop thinking about something my mother said to me, when i made the mistake of trying to have a conversation with her about the way she treated me when i was in the hospital, about how she stopped loving me when i was 8 because she saw me bonding with my pet rat blueberry and essentially got the ick toward her own child because “only vermin could love other vermin so much” and admitted she just never felt any love toward me again after that and how for literally years after i got blueberry my lucky number was 30 bc that was the number i picked to win her in a raffle and when i was 18 my mother coldly told me that it wasn’t luck, she was just the only parent who said i could have a rat, and now i wonder if that was even true or if she was just lying to once again take the joy out of something i loved. i don’t know anymore.
>that mary roach's book about corpses made me a nonfiction freak at age 12
Whyyy is this such a core experience for a particular cohort of millenial women, I love it
we all grew up reading her humor columns in readers digest as kids and then when we saw she’d published a book we had to have it, right? like that’s gotta be a widespread niche experience. also the space book she wrote was so good too
Certainly, we have all seen booktok confess to the most deranged behavior, so i will believe almost any ludicrous story about them.
However, I have also found that it is a genuine phenomenon where people who don’t read very much are convinced that nobody actually enjoys reading and one way this manifests online is people insisting that people who read more than they do, even when they themselves are not readers, are lying, cheating, disassociating, etc. So, to see someone make a claim about about booktok while also asserting that reading 30 books in an entire year is some kind of unheard of achievement, then maybe that is another non-reader with a bizarre and paranoid hang up about readers.
How about instead of trying to separate people into “readers and non-readers” (what I’m reading as yet another flavour of good vs bad), we meet people where they are and discuss what they’re reading and enjoying so we can offer suggestions.
That would be lovely, yes, please.
I mean sure, we should always try to avoid making one’s actions into one’s identity. But I think part of the problem is treating “reader” as meaning “good person” and not “person who reads a lot and enjoys reading.” It’s not insulting to say that someone who genuinely finds it shocking and unbelievable that a person could read in an entire year the number of books I read last month does not have the same relationship to reading as a hobby that I do. Insisting that we not see this as a difference because actually nobody really enjoys reading and that people who claim to do so are morally shaming others is exactly what I’m complaining about.
I know non-readers feel shame in this discourse, but most of us live in the real world where the average coworker or relative looks at you like you’re crazy for being excited about going to the library.
will never forget the day of the charlie kirk shooting bc i found out from my direct report who just doubled over laughing at his computer suddenly and i was like what's up and he said "charlie kirk just got shot?" and i went and told my 85 year old work friend and HE was like "i don't care, he had it coming" (this man is a franciscan friar btw) (a literal man of the cloth) (you'd think they'd be the only people who morally have to be opposed to political violence but he was like "as far as my morals are concerned..... i don't want the guy who did it to get the death penalty" 🤷♂️) and then i had to go to ketamine therapy where i got high as fuck bc i had a little late summer cold and had taken a sudafed a bit beforehand and saw a vision of tilda swinton basically agreeing that political violence is fine and i afterward went to mcdonald's where they were playing all of sabrina carpenter's man's best friend album with literally none of the swears bleeped. and i felt like alice in wonderland the whole time.
and also the next day was 9/11 which isn't really a big deal anymore anywhere else but if you work for or within close proximity of the UN (or in lower manhattan too) you kinda have to care every year bc there's always a chance. so all that and then it was 9/11. what a surreal 24 hours
