Happy solstice!
Now in the northern hemisphere we get a brief period of summer fullness and then in a few weeks we’ll start seeing things like a red leaf here and there and other small hints of autumn. The height of summer is such a short time before everything starts its slow tumble down.

flamingos flying over tanzania’s lake natron, a salt lake which is home to three quarters of the world’s three million lesser flamingos, as well as toxic multicoloured extremophile cyanobacteria that thrive in water so hypersaline it would strip away human skin. for the flamingos, however, the tough skin and scales on their legs prevents burning, leaving them uniquely free to drink from the near boiling freshwater found from springs and geysers at the lake’s edges. It’s making me so sad to think about the old White Oak tree in the backyard of my childhood home, missing me, wanting to connect again. I see this tree when I visit but I haven’t spent quality time. I miss this tree. I hope they don’t miss me. How heartbreaking. I hope I remember to leave gifts next time. What a special friend this tree has always been
