Interdisciplinary Project - Evaluation (BAIS300)

For our interdisciplinary project, we thought of many things to do but the one thing that we all agreed would be cool to do was to create a set like it was going to be used in a movie where people can interact with the things inside to make it interesting. At first, we were thinking of making a bedroom that would be completely white with the walls, bed, floor and other objects in the room. However, during the next couple of lectures of coming up with ideas, we settle with the idea that the set will be a living room thats like it's from a sitcom but make it almost creepy as we will be having a tv being live so you can see yourself on tv but also have lots of interactive things inside the set so it can become interactive with the people who have a look. At first I didn't have a role within the group because I wasn't sure on what I wanted to help with but when helping build the mini structure of our set room, I thought I would help build the set together as I usually don't build a lot as I thought building a set would be fun to do together. On the 9th of May, we started clearing our space in the warehouse and started putting up the walls for the set. We started this to set our place but also to see how big of the place we get so we knew how to fill up the room inside. While doing this, we also found a sofa with the extra things in the other room and at first, there was two sofas (one being black and another being white) so we messaged the art directors and everyone else who wasn't there at the time as they were doing other things towards the project and they all agreed the black sofa would be better as it would be better for the aesthetic of the room we were going for and it would also fit the creepy theme we were going for. Additionally, me and other people were called up by the tech team to have our photos taken as they wanted to make videos so when it comes to making "family photos" in our set, they will actually be moving instead. On the 14th of May, all the walls were up by then so it came to starting building the inside of the set. I decided to help build the roof of the room as the art directors wanted a roof to make it more enclosed but as the materials was taking a long time to come, I helped out everyone who was building the floor (or carpet) for the room while waiting. When the carpet was done, we put down the rug we've had since the beginning of building as we were drawing inspiration from it and also put back the sofa and also added in the tv and little objects we already had. By this time the materials for the roof came but it didn't go as we planned as we didn't realise how long the black sheets were so they were draping and covering almost most of the room so we had to take them down and add a long beam at the top in the centre so the black sheets could rest of that so i wasn't draping down anymore. For the 15th of May, it was mainly making sure the room looked perfect as the team doing all the tech things were adding their makings to the room. My team were going to add the black sheets around the room so the legs behind the walls wouldn't look so out of places but also make the outside of the room creepy so it's all hidden so people would have to look in to see what it was about. However, when trying to staple the sheets, the staple gun had no staples left, so my team went out to Wilkos to get some staples but also the tech team needed some lightbulbs so we got them while out but however, when we got back, we realised we got the wrong staples. So to save time, half of my team went out to get the staples by driving to the places so when they did that, the rest of us started planning where the rest of the sheets would fit. After getting the right staples and having lunch, we stapled all the sheets up and covered everything that was behind the wall and also made a curtain door it make it more creepy. After that, the room was basically done and ready for the show tomorrow. I was part of the last team to present the work during the show on the 16th of May and my job was to make sure the tablet that was playing the music wasn't going to die and also keep an eye on the tablets inside the room that was playing the "photos" and make sure they don't die. During these hours, we had a lot of people go in and have a look, some people were staying in there for almost half a hour which was surprising but everyone who commented on it to us said it was either "cool" "creepy" or "uncomfortable" which was what we were going for with this project. While having a look myself, I was really happy with the outcome of our team work as at the start there was a lot of unsureness with where we wanted to take this project but seeing all of it come together by everyone's work with building or filming or making the music or creating the VHS spy camera was really amazing. However, if I was to do this again, I would like to have a go at creating the moving "photos" as they included the glitch effect and I really enjoyed learning how to do that but being able to use the set ourselves to create a Gregory Crewdson photo as well together was really cool.

Glitches (BAIS300)

I was excited to do the exercise for this lecture as I always liked the aesthetic of glitches used for videos, especially for music videos. A one I watched recently that was a music video that used some glitches during the video was Stray Kids' 'My Pace'. The examples we got given to learn more about the different type of glitches between all different types of media. One example being used for a new style of horror was the 2014 film 'Unfriended', which I have personally watched. The glitches were mainly used to make the audience wonder what was going on and also not get the whole story of what was happening. Another example that was used was a music video for 'Yamborghini High' by A$AP Mob. This music video was interesting to watch as glitches were being used almost all the time and also other things were happening, like the changing the colour of the sky or objects while glitches were still happening. Personally for me, there was one too many glitches happening but it was still fun to watch. For our exercise, we had our own glitches with photos and also videos. I decided to use some photos and clips I used in my photo albums and I thought I would have fun with it and glitch one of my favourite videos that was a mash up of spongebob episodes to create a song. When trying to make the glitches, I would always put too many glitch effects which would make the video not work anymore. However, in the end I got the video working with only putting one glitch effect which didn't make it as fun as I originally wanted but it was still funny to watch. I hope to use glitches for our main project as I want to make more as I enjoyed making them and think it will be fun to do.

Cut Ups (BAIS300)

For this lecture, we learnt about the history of cut ups and how for the exercise we can do a cut up with a dialogue. The history of cut ups began in the 1920's by William S. Burroughs. The cut up technique is a literary technique in which a written text that is cut up and then rearranged to create a new piece of text. However, this technique didn't become popular until the 1960's when Burroughs made a vide called 'The Cut Ups' which used clips all cut up randomly in a video with the audio being looped for twenty minutes. This continued to be used in different ways throughout the years and one of the examples we got shown which I thought was cool was the cut up of Linkin Park and Jay-Z performing two of their songs together which was Numb and Encore. This reminded me of genre blending with music and especially with Gorillazas they are known for genre blending most of their songs. For our exercise, we had to find a video of a piece of dialogue and try find a way to make a new sentence from it. The video I used was from the The Office with the scene called "Bros before Hoes". The original dialogue says: "Bros before hos. Why? Because your bros are always there for you. They have got your back after your ho rips your heart out for no good reason. And you are nothing but great to your ho, and you told her that she was the only ho for you, and that she was better than all the other hos in the world. And then... Then suddenly she's not your ho no mo'!" and then when I cut it up and changed it around, I had the dialogue say: "Bros before hoes because your bros are always there for you. After your hoe rips your heart out and you told her she was better than all the other hoes in the world. Why? She was the only hoe for you. And then.. then suddenly, your bros are there no more". With this exercise, it made me laugh and it made me want to make more in the future for different types of sounds or dialogues.

Visual Poems (BAIS300)

For this lecture, we learnt about visual poems which at first I thought would be a challenge for me as I found understanding poems difficult while I was at school but during the day, I learnt that poems could be interesting, especially visual ones as I learn that I have liked visual poems before without knowing they would be classed as poems. The example that was given as a visual poems was a video which is used in one of the favourite horror films 'The Ring'. The visual poem in that video is the cursed VHS tape which is the main part of the film as when you watch that, you die in seven days. This was making me draw inspiration for my visual poem that we would need to do for the exercise. For the exercise, we went out around the city centre and filmed random things that we would think could be usual for a visual poems so that could be the landscape, objects or anything you think could tell a story. I filmed almost anything I thought would be useful for anyone and in the end, I used three clips that included, someone walking down some stairs, rain hinting the surface and also a long shot of a stair way where you can see someone walking up the stairs. In the end, for my visual poem I used one bright clip that could indicate calmness but then change it up quickly by using "dark" or "unsettling" clips. The first clip I used to change the mood was of a swing swinging by itself as stereotypically they are used a lot to set a "creepy" scene for films. The other clips I used was birds flying from the trees, a worn out statue, a dirty drain dripping with water from the rain and also my clip of someone walking down the stairs. With the audio, I used it from someone's clip which was of someone talking. With this, I decided to loop it as you can't really make out what they're are saying so it could try give off an uncomfortable feeling to the viewer. With this exercise, I think I would use it for maybe a next project which could be used for a dream or even explaining a story in an abstract way.

The Synesthesia Challenge (BAIS300)

For this lecture, we learnt what synesthesia is and how it effects people with what they draw/paint and/or create music with. The meaning of synesthesia is having one of our sensory pathway leads to another secondary sensory or cognitive pathway. The first recorded case of synesthesia comes from Oxford University from academic and philosopher John Locke. In 1690, he made a report of how a blind man said he could experience "the color scarlet" when he heard the sound of the trumpet. However, people did disagree as to whether Locke described an actual instance of synesthesia or was using a metaphor instead. With today, there are now different types of synesthesia (ones being more common than others). The two most common ones are 'projective synesthesia' and the other being 'associative synesthesia'. Projective synesthesia is when people can see actual colours, forms or shapes, when stimulated - this is the most common and widely known synesthesia. Associative synesthesia is when people can feel a very strong and involuntary connection between the stimulus and the sense to triggers things. All the other types of synesthesia are: grapheme-color synesthesia, chromesthesia, spatial sequence synesthesia, number form, auditory-tactile synesthesia, ordinal linguistic personification, misophonia, mirror-touch synesthesia, lexical-gustatory synesthesia and also other 80 different forms which has only had little scientific research. An example of an artist who used synesthesia with his work is the Russian abstract painter and art theorist Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky who was generally credited as the pioneer of abstract work. A quote we were shown by him said: “Colour directly influences the soul. Colour is the keyboard, the eyes are the hammers, the soul is the piano with many strings. The artist is the hand that plays, touching one key or another purposively, to cause vibrations in the soul”. This links with his last two major compositions as he used different shapes and colours to show a story. For example, "Composition IX" uses powerful diagonals gives the impression of an embryo in the womb. His intention with doing this was to resonate with the observer's soul. To understand this more, we were asked to get into a group of two and to look at a painting, create a mind map of what the painting makes us feel, think of and what it reminds us of. With that, we would create a soundscape that evokes the image. The image me and my partner got was a painting of what reminded us of patchwork. We both got reminded of a quilt that was made by a family member that you would used as the colours were warm but also bright. However, there was a couple of washed out blue colours as well so we said that could indicate that the weather outside is cold and/or rainy so that's why you're under the duvet. While discussing what we would do when we were younger when it was a rainy day, we both said we used to game a lot so we began to write the games we used to play. With this narrative we were able to create our soundscape. With the sound we used, we used a sound that repeats itself within the same beats and that is used for the rain as the sound for rain is consist. The other melody sounds that play are to indicate a game menu being played, the main inspiration being from Zelda as that was the game we both played a lot when we were younger. With this exercise, I enjoyed making the soundscape as I don't usually make sound as it's still hard for me to get my hand around but making this was really fun. It was fun trying out all the different sounds and see what works or not and I would like to try this again to see if I could use it for my future projects.

Marjons

Meeting people who actually have an interest with acting that will be helping us towards our film was really fun as I have never had the opportunity before. It also made me interact with a lot more people than I do one a day to day basis. Talking to everything and seeing all the actors different acting styles was really cool and it made me come up with a few ideas for the film, depending if we need to do a film based on something we will be given or if we need to make up the story.

Observation and Naturalism (Film102)

With this lecture, we learnt about how to observe cinematography in films where no words are spoken so only the cinematography can tell the story. To understand this,we were asked to go to a room within the college and describe using our five senses the room without saying which room we were in so people can guess. I went into one of the computers room on the second floor and with my sense, I picked up mainly the sounds of the mouses being clicked by other students and also them typing on the keyboard, I felt the warmth of the computers being on. To me the room smelt like a computer shop which I couldn't really explain and also how it tasted. I found that hard to explain. An example of a cinematography we looked at was Robert Bresson, a French film director who was most famous for his minimal films, used shots of hands a lot during his films to show the emotion of a character or even the story just by using hands. However, to understand how to use naturalism during our films we had a task to create a story in a environment which shows conflict without having a script so we would have to tell one person one side of the story and the other person another story which would have conflict with the first person.  My group decided to have one person be told that the person they are talking to loves spiders and has always wanted one when the other person actually has a massive fear of spiders. Whereas the other person is told that the first person isn't enjoying the course and just wants to talk about. To make this more real we had the idea to try get a spider to use and thankfully, we got a real spider and from looking at the video, the emotions that were shown was real and it did give a nicer feeling than having it scripted but that is also a personal opinion as I do prefer non scripted things.

Book Trailer - Film 104

With my group (myself, Chantal, Neve and YC) we decided to do our book trailer about the book 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time' as it was the most recent book Neve read and she also went to the see the live play of it and also because the recent books everyone else read already had trailers or had been made into films.

We got into roles with Chantal creating the poster for the book, YC bringing the props, Neve editing the trailer and me doing the storyboarding and we decided that we would take turns filming for the trailer as it would make us gan knowledge but also be fair. However, while planning, there was lost communication but also time problems as both Chantal and I have part time jobs which made things difficult. However, we were able to meet up on a day to film it.

While filming, we faced one problem which was how to film a desk scene but still make it look nice and neat as the main character in the book has aspergers syndrome and likes everything to look neat. Even with the tripod being the highest it could go, it wasn't high enough. While thinking of ways to overcome this, we decided that one of us would stand on a chair, while holding the tripod on their shoulder so the camera can be facing straight down. For this to be done, there needed someone to be tall and I volunteered as I was wearing flat shoes so it would be more safe. With this, we were able to get the shot we wanted and we all agreed it was very pretty.

With the end result, we were happy with what we have created and even though we faced a few problems during the pre-production, we were able to come out with a trailer which we were still proud of considering the short amount of filming time we had.

Introduction to Sound Design - (Film104)

With this lecture, it really helped with what I explained during my portfolio presentation where I explained that my main goal for the end of the year was to get better at sound, or simply just to understand it a bit more so I have more knowledge about it. We discussed about one of the sound designers from BBC who is known for doing the sound for animal documentaries like Frozen Planet, Chris Watson. This was really interesting for me as I grew up watching a lot of animal documentaries, especially the ones from the BBC and David Attenborough. While watching an interview with Chris Watson, it inspired me to get more into sound. With this, the key elements with sound is: the location, soundtrack/musical, dialogue, sound effects and voice over. All of this elements can make or break a whole film project as sound has such a massive impact on how impactful you want a scene to be. With sound, you also get 'sound motif' which means with a sound effect or combination of sound effects that associated with a particular characterising or situation through the film. These sounds can help shape the story, build on a character and help unify the film with it's narrative and thematic development. An example of this would be Steven Spielberg's 1975 film 'Jaws' as whenever the shark is coming/threatens, the theme cords get more louder so the tension in the film can get higher. Making a Proposal (FILM104)

For the first year, we should set ourselves goals so we can look back at the end of the year to see if we have achieved them or know what we should still learn. Additionally, this was help with making a proposal/portfolio when we meet clients for future projects when we want to talk about our skills. When making my proposal, I explained that I would like to be a music video director as I have always had an interest with creating stories with music as I used to play music but I explained that I would like to expand with that. This meaning I would like to create a storyline by myself. My main goal for the end of the year is getting comfortable with cinematography, especially sound and lighting as during pre-degree, I struggled with getting the sound right during little projects and with lighting, even though I got more comfortable with it during my final project at pre-degree but I would like to get more comfortable with it before the end of the year. Additionally, we discussed how having our own website or linkedin account so when coming to contacting future clients, they can have a look at our skills/style of film by our websites. With this, I decided it would be great to have one so it's easier to show my work, especially as I don't usually show my work a lot. Stuff and Things - Part 1 (BCOP100)

With materiality is the quality of what matters and whether or not we agree with the quote: "change the material and everything changes with it". For me personally it would change if you were changing the material as the object/thing wouldn't be as practical as what it was before. For example, if a tissue was no longer using soft material, it wouldn't be practical to use as much, like cleaning water that's been spilled over.  

A case study of this would be that Claude Levi-Strauss, an anthropologist and ethnologist whose work was key in the development of the theory of structuralism and structural anthropology, said that materials are good to think with and by combining two lots of materials together can make you come up with a brand new idea.

Time, Space and Everyday - Part 2 (BCOP100)

"Time is one of the fundamental dimensions of reality" as said by Eva Hoffman as with time we always run out of it but we always need more of it.

With time, you can tell a story with social reaslim and an example of this would be Shane Meadow's 2006 film 'This Is England" which is set in 1983 as it illustrates how their subculture, especially white nationalists and white supremacists, which led to divisions within the skinhead scene.

A case study of a piece of artwork that includes the story of time is Tracey Ermin's My Bed from 1999 which included a bed that told a story by also using place - which connected back to when we learned about sense of places. This was inspired by Erwin's "sexual yet depressive phase" where she remained in her bed for days without eating or drinking expect for alcohol. This shows how much little time you can have yet still tell a massive story.

This can relate back to one of my projects from college as I made a video of a day in my life and within those 10 hours of my day, I was able to show it within 3 minutes and you could tell what I did during the day and mine and my friends emotions and I think it's so interesting how time can be changed but also shown.

Time, Space and Everyday - Part 1 (BCOP100)

With places, you have different type of sense such as: neolithic (referring to the period of British, Irish and Manx history that spanned from circa 4000 to circa 2,500 BCE), renaissance (the influence of the European art between 14th - 16th century), industrial revolution (involving the manufacturing and transportation of products), information age (also known as the 21st century) and anthropocene (which is the human era now).

With senses of places, there are different meaning behind them. One example being 'to be orientated' which is like the underground tube maps. Another example having 'tactic knowledge' which means a place cannot be written down or verbalised, like an aesthetic, as you can teach aesthetics and it can also be changed multiple times. Another example is 'Genius Loci' which means the soul of a place.

A case study with creating a place is Rachel Whiteread's 'House' (1993) which shows that you can create a place anywhere and it can still have meaning behind it. Whiteread went on to say " Place is basically a selection of doll’s houses that have been very carefully stage lit from the inside. They are all second-hand objects, which I started collecting about 20 years ago... People may take these things as being rather sentimental – personally I see them as containing a great deal of pathos, as extremely sad, interesting and sympathetic objects. Some of them are really bashed up. They’re made by dads, uncles, grannies, and grandpas – whoever wanted to get involved in making them – in the garden shed."

With places as well, you can create ownership which can be done with graffiti, like for example Southbank in London which was once a skatepark years ago but now it has become filled with graffiti work which now can be owned by the people who left their mark there. Another example would be artists creating art onto things in a certain place, an example from where I live, someone drew little pictures onto trees around a dog park/forest and made a challenge from it so the public could join in.

In conclusion, I never realised how with every place you can create something so small with much more meaning and I would like to refer back to Rachel Whiteread's art with my future projects.

Semiotics 2 - Reading an Image (BCOP100)

There is a difference with seeing and looking which not many people will realise. This being with seeing, it's something we do arbitrarily as people can ask us "did you see that?" whereas looking is an activity that involves a greater purpose as we choose to look or not look at something and additionally, you can have the power to make a person look at something.

With semiotics, there are different type of signs as well. You have an icon that resembles it's referent and you also have an index that associates with it's reference (for example, smoke can mean fire).

A case study of this can be 'Little Red Hiding Hood'. The original story of 'Little Red Hiding Hood' was created by Charles Perrault, a French author of many famous folk tales such as 'Cinderella' and 'Sleeping Beauty', in 1697. Throughout the years, the story has changed with the storyline, however some signs within the story never changed. For example, the colour red connotes blood, love and danger and with the red cape added onto to that, it shows that the family is wealthy.

Within my art, I like to give hints that can give different meanings as it shows there is more behind the story than what you already think so I think this has helped with what I would like to add to my future projects.

Semiotics - Study of Signs (BCOP100)

Semiotics connects back with identity with our belongings. With this, we start with looking at maps as maps tell us a narrative and an analog. A map is also a symbolic representations of our characteristics of a place. You can walk into a place and you can gain so much information with a short amount of time.

For example, if you walked into my bedroom, you would be able to gain all the information with all my interests as I want my bedroom to feel more me. I have posters of my favourite music artists, films and tv series, I have figures of my favourite characters, pictures of friends and places and concert tickets and many other things. On the other hand, you can go to a historical place and see all the history within the place by seeing the architecture and even the people there.

With maps as well, they have given us the identity of culture, nationhood and also ownership while race, religion and geography have acted as powerful catalysts for the creation as well.

Concept of Final Film - Editing and Montage (Film 103)

With coming back with a storyline for a film I want to film, I always find it a bit difficult at first especially when there isn’t any music as basing a film from a song that I would like to use in the actual film is much more easier for me. However with this final film, I want to show that I am proving with my sound skills as I bought myself a rode mic and to also show I can challenge myself. However, I did finally come up with a narrative, that is more focusing on the visuals but that is also my style of filming. The story is someone walking through Plymouth and going to the Hoe/Barbican to find peace. The reason I chose this was because I remember my friend coming down to visit Plymouth for the first time and when she came to see the Hoe, she kept going on about it and how it felt like she was aboard and how peaceful it made her felt and I thought it would be nice to show that in my final film.

With the editing, I do want to include a hip hop edit and I found that editing style very interesting to learn and I want to improve my skills with editing in face pace as I’m used to having longer shots but like I’ve mentioned, I want to challenge myself. I was also thinking of doing a match cut as well but I wasn’t show when to use it in my film and if it would have any relation to my film but when it comes to filming, I film simply everything because I find the footage I find the most beautiful and clean are the shots I didn’t even have in my mind, I just randomly filmed.

The one problem I might have with filming is the person who’s going to be in my film. My friend has nicely said yes to helping me with my film but from other experiences, I’m always scared with how the person will actually act when the camera is there. I’ve only had one friend who never spoke or started to act unnatural when I started filming, mainly because she’s a photographer so she understood what I needed to do. However, other friends I’ve had who said they would want to help out, would change when they are in front of the camera as they realised they are awkward and don’t actually like it so this has lead on to me being stressed with trying to film at least something and most likely have me in it just so I can still have a film I want to film and produce so I’m hoping my friend doesn’t become massively awkward while I start filming and still acts natural.

Critical Evaluation For Editing and Montage (Film 103)

With my final film, I knew I wanted to add in some hip hop editing to my film as since the lecture of learning about hip hop editing, I was interested with how it worked, most likely because I have an interest with music (which is where the hip hop editing got influenced by) and also it's something I've always wanted to try with editing as most of my edits are in slow motion as I like to show beauty in the world with my filming but I've never had a concept where I could have fast pace editing. That's when I thought of my concept.

My concept was to have someone walking around Plymouth, but spends most of the time at the Barbican and at the Hoe as they find peace at the sea. With this, I was going to use the hip hop editing method at the beginning so the protagonist can get to the oceanside quicker. Thankfully I had a friend who wanted to come to Plymouth to see me and when I asked if she would be happy helping me out with my filming, she said yes. However, instead, she wanted to go to the aquarium as she's never been to one before. So I changed my story to someone walking through Plymouth and walking to the aquarium as they find peace with the sea and love the world under the sea with the colours and creatures that live there. So with this, I decided to add in a match cut so I could make it quicker to get to the aquarium without awkwardly filming walking through the doors and also paying her ticket. However, I didn't have a plan with how and what I wanted to film at the aquarium and also, knowing that it would be busy on a Saturday with lots of families. So I had the idea I would film everything the most I can and still film everything, even after leaving the aquarium just in case I didn't have enough footage.

After filming and getting home, the first thing I did with my friend as well, was look at the footage because we both agreed that if we didn't have enough or weren't happy with with the filming, we would come up with another concept and film it around the area I live. However, we both liked the footage I had, even with some shots that weren't good but the problem that I had was that for most of my filming, I didn't have my mic on so a lot of the audio was just fuzzy and some that had the mic on, had children screaming in the background. I was upset that the audio didn't work as well as for once I was looking forward with having audio in my film as in all the films I have made, there's always music over it and the one film I did do sound, it wasn't the best. However, for the walking around Plymouth, I had some audio of seagulls and the general sound around us so I decided to use that audio with the start that was going to be a hip hop edit and the rest of the film having music behind it.

When it came to editing, it was difficult. Even though I had a lot of shots I was happy with, my friend (who was in it) wasn't the best person as in the footage, she would turn around a lot and then just have a conversation with me, even though she knew I was filming. So when it came to editing, my film was only over one minute because I had to cut out all the times she turned around. So I can up with the idea that the footage at the aquarium, I would edit them in slow motion as I always try to film at the frame rate that could be be used to put as slow motion. When I finished putting all the footage to slow motion, the film ended up just being over three minutes which I was just so grateful for. Even though it's not the film I'm the most proudest with, I'm still happy that I was just able to get there without stressing out that much.

With showing some people my film, they thought it was very beautiful with the shots and the colours popping out at the aquarium which made me happy as I like my films to be very colourful, like Studio Ghibli films who are a massive inspiration to me. However, I did have one person to me say they didn't really understand the narrative to the film and when I told them I personally prefer to make films that are more visually pleasing than having a storyline and plus, I find creating stories very difficult. So with that comment, in the future I want to create a film that does have a storyline where I write a script and plan and actually create a story instead of making everything more visually pleasing. I want to challenge myself.

In conclusion, with the struggle I had while editing my final film with the audio, the actual shots with my friend and releasing I should challenging myself a bit more often just so I can go out of my filming safe box so I can prove to myself it's okay to try new things and for it to go wrong, there's no need to stress when it goes wrong. It's all about learning and improving. But the one thing I want to prove to myself is with sound because I own a proper mic now, I can spend time learning about when's the best time to use a mic and not use the mic. Do I need to use the deadcat all the time? What's the best setting to use the and does it need to be different for different locations and people? These are some things I will be challenging myself before I film again.
