Just to be clear, Oscar Wilde was not just antisemitic in his book The Picture of Dorian Gray. He wrote disgusting portrayals of Jewish people in multiple works he printed. No, this was not written from a character's perspective. It was his perspective. He was a racist. He was a racist till his death.

Somehow this dead white guy is still not cancelled and it truly feels if you're an attractive gay white man you just get to be off the hook for everything in the LGBT community. He's dead. You can hurt his feelings.

Description

This panoramic landscape depicts one of Childe Hassam’s favorite destinations: Gloucester, Massachusetts. During the summer months Gloucester was home to many artists, who, like Hassam, chose to emphasize its picturesque aspects, such as its quaint buildings and sailing vessels, rather than its fish-processing plants. The composition exhibits Hassam’s broken brushwork and his use of bare canvas, particularly in the foreground. Bright, saturated blues and crisp whites add to the maritime tenor of the work, while the square canvas highlights its architectural quality and harmoniously organized space.

Appledore Island, one of the Isles of Shoals located off the coast of Maine and New Hampshire, was the home of poet Celia Thaxter and attracted numerous artists and writers to its rocky shores during the late 19th century. Childe Hassam painted The Little Pond, Appledore during his first summer visit there.
