Imani and Funbeemon from the first gen !

Funbeemon didn’t want to join the children; her work at the hive was more important to her, but circumstances made her change her mind. She’s a serious, responsible Digimon and at first, going from the strict routine she had followed her whole life to a sudden lack of rules destabilized her.

Imani is British, which makes him the only kid of his group who’s not from Asia. He loves reading, especially folktales and thrillers. Unfortunately for him, saving the Digital World left him with very little free time (not that it took him long to finish the two books he always carries on him).

I want to talk a little about Kiwimon, Pinocchimon’s underling from episode 43 of Adventure, because they have a special place in Pinocchimon’s house.

This is the only character that Pinocchimon doesn’t treat badly (worst he did is on the picture above) unlike all the other Digimon in his house, the ones he doesn’t hesitate to kill just because he’s upset. Kiwimon can give him unpleasant informations at a time when Pinocchimon already feels impatient and face no consequences: Pinocchimon doesn’t take it out on them.

Even if it was just that one time (and for what…) Kiwimon also gives their opinion and is actually listened too.

Pinocchimon is bored, for the second time in this episode, yet he doesn’t distract himself from his boredom by picking on Kiwimon.

It’s probably because Kiwimon is the only Digimon he doesn’t play with. They aren’t his playmate: they’re his servant, and that’s what makes all the difference. They have a distinct function in the house and can’t be as easily replaced as the rest of Pinocchimon’s toys.

That’s why Pinocchimon doesn’t mention Kiwimon when he tells Takeru that he’s got friends: because he doesn’t play with Kiwimon, even though they follow Pinocchimon everywhere around the house and are clearly not afraid of falling victim of his cruel tendencies. It would have been easy to call them and ask them to tell Takeru that they’re Pinocchimon’s friend, but it didn’t even cross his mind (I doubt he noticed that Kiwimon had left the house at this moment) because the two of them never play together and Pinocchimon can’t conceive the idea of being friends with someone he doesn’t play with. (And the boy already struggles with the mere concept of “friend”, so…)

Kiwimon also takes initiatives.

Pinocchimon didn’t want them to go out, yet they did anyway, and what for?

JUST SO PINOCCHIMON COULD PLAY. THAT IDIOT BIRD WENT AND FACED SEVEN CHOSEN CHILDREN AND THEIR DIGIMON TO TELL THEM TO F*CK OFF.

NO ONE ASKED THEM TO DO THAT. THAT IDIOT.

They just wanted Pinocchimon to have a good time.

Anyway, I would have loved Kiwimon to stick around for longer than one episode, it would have been interesting to know more about their relation to their master. And since Pinocchimon is a big brat, I wonder if Kiwimon ever saw themself as some sort of caretaker, despite the great imbalance in power…

You used “they” here ‘cause you’re not sure what gender Kiwimon was, right? (I think it’s a male, but that was more clear in the dub than in the original, where he had a female VA.)

It was the reason at first, I couldn’t tell Kiwimon's gender based on their voice; now I'm used to it and don't consider Kiwimon neither male nor female. ^^;

Look who’s got a Nyaromon! It’s Noriko! This one evolves into a Bearmon though, hence the colour change: I didn’t feel like making a new baby level. :’P

Her charadesign is still in-progress but I thought it was cute, so I post it here. ^^ This is Chao, a Chinese girl from the first generation of Chosen, with her partner Gabomon.

Because the general description of Pinocchimon states that it was “built from the body of a cursed Jureimon”, I have this (quite self indulgent) headcanon that Piemon was the one who created Pinocchimon, and that it’s because he was directly born as an ultimate level Digimon that Pinocchimon’s behaviour is so similar to one of a child.

I think that the Jureimon used to create him didn’t have to sacrifice his whole body, and whatever it was that he gave Piemon back then, it regrew since.

I like to imagine that it was the Jureimon we see during the Dark Masters arc.

With the exception of Kiwimon, Jureimon is the only character who seems to care about Pinocchimon; but unlike Kiwimon, he isn’t one of his servants. Sure, he addresses him with respect (“Pinocchimon-sama”) but that’s all, otherwise Jureimon just kind of hangs around the house, keeping an eye on what’s happening in the forest.

Despite the fact that Pinocchimon is one of the Dark Masters, aka the guys who conquered the Digital World, those who should be the most powerful Digimon at this point in the story, despite that, Jureimon acts like he’s looking out for Pinocchimon. There’s this whole thing with Yamato, where he manages to turn one of the children against his friends… so that Pinocchimon won’t have to fight too powerful opponents.

And even then, when the main threat is about to be neutralized according to his plan, Jureimon is still concerned for Pinocchimon’s safety and tells him to be careful (as if Jureimon were the experienced adult who had to tell a child to look both ways before crossing the street).

(Btw Jureimon is 100% aware that his colleagues are jerks who won’t help each other out. If there’s a problem he’ll be on his own.) 

Then, he strikes a cord:

(It makes sense that Juriemon’d know what exactly Pinocchimon is missing if he knows how he was created, modeled by Piemon directly from the darkness ? Missing a heart, maybe ? A good education, certainly ?)

(edit: I had missed this scene, but yes, apparently Pinocchimon doesn’t have a heart.)

Anyway, Pinocchimon then says something that only reinforces my theory:

“I don’t care who you are” as in Jureimon was someone special ? That’s something he could say about the Digimon who was used to create him (and that’s a position that would keep Jureimon safe from Pinocchimon’s cruel games).

In this case, Jureimon’s concern for Pinocchimon could come both from a sense of connection with Pinocchimon (he was made his wood after all) and the pride of being the source of one of the masters of the world. That would explain why Jureimon didn’t take orders from Pinocchimon, acted on his own and didn’t hesitate to tell him the unpleasant truth (though he crossed a line with that last one).

Still on the “Pinocchimon was born directly as he is” train: what did Pinocchimon do to prove that he had a friend ?

He build one himself, a puppet similar to him. Maybe I’m reading too much into things, but he could have wanted to recreate what Piemon did with him...

(Now if any of this has already been established in canon materials, or if someone else has pointed this out before, I have apparently missed it, so don’t hesitate to tell me.)

I forgot to mention how unfazed Kiwimon is by Pinocchimon. There’s the first picture, of course, where they couldn’t care less about the suction pads around their head, but also:

Okay, Kiwimon isn’t the most expressive character, but the animator didn’t do anything special to show fear in this shot, so I’m going to assume that Kiwimon wasn’t feeling threatened here. (I mean, they are threatened, the way the weapon is drawn bigger than they are, and their posture makes them look maybe smaller than usual so idk I might be wrong with this one, but Kiwimon doesn't seem really scared to me, maybe just a little tensed ?)

Maybe it’s also worth noticing that we don’t see Pinocchimon pretending to shot them, no gesture, no “bang bang!”. I mean, sure he’s aiming at Kiwimon, but knowing Pinocchimon’s sadistic nature, things could have gone further than that.

Kiwimon is apparently used to this behaviour, and they know that Pinocchimon wouldn’t do that to them, at least not under normal circumstances.
