Cleared to fly by a hesitant Cyclone and deployed back to the same hell hole he was rescued from just days ago, Jake Kazansky is determined to prove he's fine.

Now he is forced to navigate the narrow passageways of an aircraft carrier while balancing command, missions, unresolved trauma and a growing attraction his nervous system isn't ready for.

Fallout

He is standing alone on the grass and as he looks up from the ground he can’t help but marvel at the sight. The view is fucking spectacular. Lush grass framed by tall and majestic trees. Soft hills gently sloping towards the deep blue of the ocean. Sun so bright it is blinding, even with his dark tinted glasses. It would be a great place for a picnic or to watch the sunset.

How ironic.

The only thing that disturbs the view are hundreds of white gravestones, arranged in neat rows with military precision. If the Navy is good at one thing it is to make things and people stand in straight lines. In life as well as in death. His gaze returns to the one right before him. The one marking the final resting place of his biggest regret. His biggest adversary, bitter rival and constant pain is the ass that had the potential to be so much more. He wishes they'd had more time.

Of all the things I've written, this is the story that is closest to my heart. Despite being a tragic, sad tale without a happy ending.

Maybe that's exactly why. Because this fic is honest about the ending from chapter one. Because even though it is clear where it's headed, it is still worth reading. It has a story to tell about love and bravery and compassion in the face of death. It's devastating and beautiful and it will make you cry.

Creating it took a lot, and once it was done I think I was in mourning too. Took me a while to shake it off. I can honestly say I've never been as affected by any story I've written than I was by this one.

I know a lot of people stay away from MCD stories, for good reasons. I truly get it, this isn't a light read, and it certainly isn't uplifting. Readers have quit this story halfway through because it got too real.

But it deserves every hit it gets. So I'm putting this out here, hoping it will find it's target audience.

So I'm reading a lot of A/B/O fics lately (slippery, slippery slope...) and just rewatched the movie through the lense of Alpha!Bradley and Omega!Jake as secretly bonded mates. Like been together for a long time pre movie. And omg, does it work...

For example the end, Jake and Bradley on the carrier. They can't hug because they keep their status hidden, but Jake just spent hours fearing his mate was dead, he needs some reassurance. So Jake pats Bradley on the shoulder instead, looking innocent, but it's right over where he knows the mating bite sits. The jolt of energy that sparks through Bradley at the contact almost knocks him to ground. He has to break eye contact and look up to the sky to stop himself from jumping Jake right there on the flight deck. 😍😍😍

WIP Wednesday

Music thundered through the Hard Deck, laughter bounced off every wall, and every pilot in the room seemed determined to squeeze every last drop out of the victory they'd somehow survived.

They had done it, against impossible odds.

Maverick leaned against the bar, a beer resting in his hand, watching instead of talking. Phoenix was beating Fanboy at pool while Payback loudly cheered her on.

Bob was smiling as Coyote tried to explain some ridiculous maneuver with exaggerated hand gestures.

Harvard and Yale had found the jukebox.

Even Fritz, Omaha and Halo looked relaxed, talking near the bar.

Across the room, Hangman stood at the center of another group, waving his bottle dramatically as he told the tale how he destroyed that fifth gen fighter.  

Mav caught another pair of eyes. Bradley.

He stood beside the dart board with a beer in his hand, then lifted it slightly in a silent toast.

They'd talked back on the carrier. The hurt was still there. But they had taken the first step.

Then cheers erupt. "To the Daggers." Fanboy shouted.

"To impossible missions." Mav answered.

Everyone echoed it.

"To impossible missions!"

A few minutes later, Jake rubbed at the side of his head. Javy looked over and frowned.

"You okay?"

"Yeah." Jake winced again. "Just a headache."

Phoenix snorted. "Maybe that's what happens when your ego gets too big for your own skull."

Jake smiled weakly. He didn’t even try to find a biting comeback to that.

"I'm calling it." He pushed his chair back.

The moment he stood, he swayed.

Mav noticed instantly. Something was wrong.

"Hangman?"

Jake reached for the table, missed—

Then collapsed. He didn’t even try to break his fall.

chatgpt is a threat to the symbiotic relationship between fanfic writers and their betas. we are losing our traditions. eradicate the soulless machine and ask your friend who has a full time job and 3 kids to annotate your omegaverse fanfiction like any other responsible adult.

Agree 1000%. I still use it, as I don’t have a human beta. And I rather have my story checked by something than posting it full of mistakes. But I would love to have a beta again!

HR Nightmare: Dagger Squad

After a week of road trips with my husband, who is a great driver, but a terrible passenger, I have this headcanon of Hangster on a road trip, criticizing and dissecting each other's driving style non stop.

Jake: "You see the speeding lane, right? It's there for a reason."

Bradley: "I'm comfortable where I am. I want to arrive relaxed, not stressed out."

"Your driving stresses me out. There is a gap half a mile long, it causes me actual pain to see all these cars passing us!"

"Sounds like a you problem. At least this way we will arrive without a slew of traffic violations and five near accidents."

"I didn't get a single ticket-"

"Because you got lucky"

"-and I know how to control the car at high speed."

"Barely."

"Car is still in one piece, isn't it?"

"Because I screamed at you to slow down."

"Please. I had everything under control."

Bradley glares at him.

"Better look at the road, wouldn't want you to accidentally drive into the ditch just cause you can't stop looking at me."

"I'm not looking at you."

"You literally just did."

"Did not."

"Suit yourself. And please keep going, I would like to arrive before the others have polished off dinner."

"Fine. We'll make it in time if you just shut up."

"At this speed?"

Bradley sighs and keeps driving, tuning out the commentary from the passenger seat.

Been procratinating all day on my writing and spent entirely too much time on this, but I’m finally happy with the result.

WIP Wednesday

A small snippet from my Jake and Dadclone origin story. Jake is 15 here, Beau is his moms boyfriend. This scene is the first time Beau takes Jake flying.

Beau opens the throttle and the small plane accelerates obediently. And then the vibrations reduce as the wheels lift off.

Jake’s stomach drops and soars at the same time. The runway falls away beneath them. Houses shrink, roads turn into lines and cars into moving dots. The earth gets quiet from up here.

He presses his face against the window, taking in the sight. They level out, the world gliding below them at a steady pace now. He is startled out of his marveling when he hears Beau’s voice in the headset.

“Your controls.” Beau looks at him, a smile playing over his face.

Jake’s heart slams. “My controls?” The nod he receives from Beau confirms it.

He carefully wraps his fingers around the yoke, trying not to overthink it. Beau’s voice in his ear. “Just like I showed you. Gentle movements.”

He tries. The aircraft responds, just slightly. A soft bank to the right. The horizon tilts.

He’s doing that.

He’s flying.

“Small inputs,” Beau reminds him, steady and patient. “She’ll do the work if you let her.”

Jake laughs, half disbelief, half exhilaration. He doesn’t have a word for it yet. He just knows that nothing has ever felt like this. He doesn't understand yet what that means, he only knows he never wants to come down.

WIP Wednesday

Thanks for the tag @jakekernerkazansky, I'm honored to join this game!

This is a first glimpse at my current WIP, Lifeline. Part 3 of the Residual Damage Series.

"Rooster impressed the SEALs during the extraction," Cyclone explains, his voice turning professional and clipped. "They’ve put in a formal request. They want Dagger Squad to fly close air support for their ongoing raids in the sector. They want pilots who know how to work with them."

Jake feels a cold spike of adrenaline. "You're sending us back to the Lincoln?"

"Yes."

Jake doesn't hesitate. He can’t afford to. If he stops even one second to think about the coast, about the way the air smells over that desert, the mask will slip. "Understood, sir. The Daggers are ready."

Cyclone stands up. He knows what he's asking.

"Kazansky," Cyclone says, his voice softening just a fraction. "I'm sorry."

The apology hangs in the air. It’s for the necessity of the mission, for the cruelty of the timing, and for the fact that the Navy requires its best tools to be used until they break.
