even if you don’t live in canada, you could have canadian followers, don’t you dare scroll past this.

This whole "sunny all night long" thing that alaska does was fun for a couple years. But now I'm sleepy. Turn it off.
The pill that you gave didn't do anything.
I just slept for years on end.
In a short 151 days I’ll start my journey from Fairbanks, Alaska to Watertown, New York. I’m very excited to share all of the things I’ll have the opportunity to see on the way. If anyone is familiar with any “worth-visiting” places throughout Canada or the Northern United States please let me know about them. I’d like to start mapping this trip out.
Bernie Sanders for President
Okay so I don’t usually post on Tumblr, but I feel the need to inform as many people as I can about Bernie Sanders. I feel he has great potential in reconstructing the social, economic, and fundamental issues our country has been dealing with. And I know some people hate politics and think it’s all a bunch of garbage but this guy is actually 100% for the people. I can prove it to you.
Alright so heres our guy. No need to call him Mr. Sanders. He likes to go by Bernie.Â
So Bernie is serving his second term in the U.S. Senate for the state of Vermont. He previously served 16 years in the House of Representatives, making him the longest serving independent Congress member in history. Quoted from his website, I’ve provided his leadership and influential positions he holds in our legislative system, “Today, Sanders remains on the veterans committee and was tapped by Senate leadership to be the ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee. He also serves on the Environment and Public Works Committee, where he has focused on global warming and rebuilding our nation’s crumbling infrastructure.”Â
Needless to say, Bernie has a voice in some pretty important stuff and he uses that voice to ensure the people and the environment are taken into account before corporate interests.Â
To break down what his beliefs and priorities are, here’s a list and a link to his website with a full description:
Education: Unfortunately, here in the U.S. college education is not free. And by not free I mean college prices bury and burden students long into their adult life. Bernie believes that education should be free, but with the position our country is in, he realizes that an accomplishment like that would take a prolonged amount of time. Long term, he wants to make tuition free at every public college and university. Short term he is striving for affordable loans, refinancing, and debt forgiveness to help bare the burden of the college graduate.Â
“One of the great crises facing our country today is student indebtedness and the high cost of college. It is obscene that millions of working-class families are finding it extremely difficult to send their kids to college. Colleges must control costs and the federal government must provide the necessary assistance so every person in this country – regardless of income – can get a college education.”
ALSO HE WANTS TO GET RID OF STANDARDIZED TESTING
“Sen. Sanders has been a vigorous opponent of the standardized testing regimen put in place by the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) because it narrows school curriculum and constrains the development of critical thinking and creativity.  Instead, the Senator supports a system that would promote creative learning by doing away with “fill-in-the-bubble” standardized tests, and instead evaluate students based their understanding of the curriculum and their ability to use it creatively.”

Women’s Rights: Bernie believes both genders are equal (because they are) and he recognizes the wage gap as discriminatory and wrong. He also has shed light on the invasion of individual rights in the work place, “Sen. Sanders strongly believes a woman’s healthcare decisions should be between a woman and her doctor, not a woman and her employer. Birth control, like any other routine preventive medication, should be covered by insurance and coverage should not be dictated by an employer’s personal or religious beliefs.”
Heres a link:Â http://www.sanders.senate.gov/legislation/issue/womens-rights
Healthcare: Okay, so this is a big one for Bernie. But to break it down, he believes every person has the right to healthcare and his solution is medicare for all, single-payer program.Â
Heres a link:Â http://www.sanders.senate.gov/legislation/issue/primary-health-care
Energy&Environment: Incase any of you didn’t know, GLOBAL WARMING IS REAL. And it’s an issue we ll need to address. In regards to Bernie, “as a member of both the Environment and Public Works and the Energy and Natural Resources Committees, Sen. Sanders is uniquely positioned to fight for progressive energy policies and increased environmental protection – issues of great importance to him and to all Vermonters. Sen. Sanders is a leading voice on the need to address global warming by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.”  “All across the planet, we are seeing record heat waves, melting glaciers, rising sea levels, extreme droughts and floods, and devastating wildfires. Because global warming is the greatest environmental threat facing the planet, Sen. Sanders, along with Sen. Boxer, introduced the Climate Protection Act of 2013. This bill would tax carbon and methane emissions from coal, oil, and natural gas production, and use the revenue to make historic investments in energy efficiency and sustainable energy. It would also triple funding for advanced energy research, and make huge investments in wind, solar, geothermal, biomass, plug-in electric vehicles, and other clean technologies. The proposal would also provide rebates to consumers to offset any efforts by oil, coal or gas companies to raise price”
( I honestly feel like everything on his site is important and should be quoted but this post is already so long, so heres a link: http://www.sanders.senate.gov/legislation/issue/energy-and-environment )
Alright so theres a few of the MANY topics and issues that Bernie wants to fix and I mean it when I say I didn’t even scratch the surface. Seriously go to http://www.sanders.senate.gov/about and on the right sidebar all his positions on so many important issues are listed. He goes into detail about each issues and he doesn’t just say there’s a problem; he gives us solutions that could really work.Â

So thats a very brief explanation of Bernie. The greatest, least politician like man, that is running for President. I can’t wait. I think it’s time we take a break from the hell that is partisan politics and the two party system. Maybe its time we move away from the politico-norm that is having a Republican, or Democrat in charge. It’s time for Bernie Sanders, America’s first Independent President. Someone who is really for the people.Â
