"Dream doesn't care! He does not care! You have the wrong hostage! I CARE!"
Twitter has me thinking about this again and I want to talk about it.
For the longest time, Technoblade insisted he wouldn't let anyone close again. After everything with Tommy, he insisted that he wouldn't care about someone like that again aside from Phil, that Phil was the only person he needed, the only person he cared about.
When Ranboo moved to the Artic, he kept him at arm's length, didn't really try to interact with him.
But then Ranboo started reaching out. He gave him a new axe to replace the Axe of Peace because he'd heard he lost it. They started going to mansions and ocean monuments together. They started spending time together for the sake of spending time together. They were getting close, but Techno still said he didn't trust him. Said he didn't know if Ranboo was reliable and didn't know if the Syndicate could trust him, but invited him to be a part of it anyways.
And then they spent even more time together.
And then Technoblade called him his friend for the first time. He called Ranboo one of his best friends outright, the first time he put a label on their friendship, the first time he actually acknowledged it. When Badboyhalo was trying to recruit them and asked if Techno liked Ranboo, he said he did and had made it his goal to keep Ranboo safe.
So yeah, of course he cares! We know he cares!
But then Ranboo gets thrown in the jail and while we all know Technoblade had to break Dream out because of the favor, he kept saying Ranboo. Ranboo is in the prison. Ranboo is in trouble. We have to save Ranboo. Sure, he'd say Dream's name, but he put an emphasis on saving Ranboo, not Dream.
And he kept refusing to leave Ranboo behind, was getting angry with Dream for even suggesting it! Insisted that he would not leave the prison without Ranboo by his side. They could have left with just Dream, that was the favor after all, to save Dream, but Techno didn't want to. No, he wanted to save Ranboo and he refused to leave him behind.
And they save him! They get him (and Connor, still a bit confused about that) out of their cells and they're all decked out in armor and they finally escape, even if they have a bit of trouble along the way.
They get out of the prison and they're running and they're running and then-
Technoblade stops running, still refuses to put Dream's safety first, because Ranboo is in danger. Sam threatens Michael and Ranboo stops running because how could he? How could he let his son get hurt? Sure, Sam doesn't actually know where Michael is, but Ranboo doesn't know that. We do as viewers, but not Ranboo.
And Sam is threatening to kill Ranboo all the sudden. Demanding Dream come back while Dream is demanding Techno runs with him, demands they get out of there, but Techno refuses. He has to save Ranboo, he has to save his friend, but the others are getting in the way and he can't get close and-
"Dream doesn't care! He does not care! You have the wrong hostage! I CARE!"
Just before he can reach Ranboo, he watched him get killed. Just a few feet away, he's so close, and Ranboo gets killed right before his eyes. And Ranboo has given him the picture of Michael, a wordless plea, and Technoblade has once again lost someone he cares about.
For the first time in a long time, he tried to save a friend, and he couldn't reach them in time.
And he has to run because he's outnumbered, there's too many people, he knows he can't win, but he has another goal now.
Technoblade isn't going to let Sam get away with this. He's going to make Sam pay for killing one of his best friends.
And I cannot fucking wait to see it.
