Most Effective Presentation- Final Reflection
The most effective presentation of the class was not necessarily the project that received the most likes, views or shares; it was not the project with the most riveting topic, most original goal, nor the craziest presentation topic. I thought it was the presentation that was completed with the most passion and effort, which in my opinion, was Allison’s. Her Facebook posts were mainstream, but the effort that obviously went into creating the YouTube video and interactive online book was more impressive than many of the other projects. Time is an often overlooked resource and in terms of college students, it is the most invaluable; so to see a project that was completed because of a genuine concern for the topic instead of a genuine desire to merely complete the project was refreshing. Not to say that other projects did not reflect a large amount of effort and time and sleepless nights, by no means, but only to highlight the creativity and effort that was used in Allison’s project. Even though there are many other sites and campaigns that promote the same issue, the fact that Allison is only in college and still created propaganda of the same caliber of these other professionals is in itself impressive. I hope that her book sees much success as time goes on and that her idea continues to grow and prosper.
I agree, Allison’s was amazing. She DEF put tons of time into that, and I think it shows in what she was able to create!
Presentation Reflection
Before I start I just want to congratulate everyone on being done with their projects! It was so amazing to see what everyones interests were and all the hard work you guys put in. I think two of the best presentations came from Zoe and Molly because the time and effort they put in to the project was evident.
First of all way to go Molly for being the first to present and having majority of the project completed before the break. I think her promotional strategies added to the over strength of the project, and the info graphs and flyers were really well put together. Additionally, I think the twitter that she made has the potential of becoming a “trending page” and could continue to gain attention even after the class is over.
When I first heard the topic for Zoe’s project I didn’t know what to expect but I was completely blown away. The strongest component of her project (in my opinion) was the timeline. She was able to include so much information about the show in such an organized and interactive way that it made me want to read all the facts on my own time! Also, shout out to Zoe for being able to do that without any help from the digital design studio! I wish I would be that tech savvy!
All in all everyones project was amazing and I’m going to miss you all!
I agree, Zoe’s was really impressive, especially since she did it by herself! I couldn’t have done that myself hahaha
Project 3 Presentations
Chapter 10 BBG Reflection 11.19.15
Well, I must say that this chapter really did give me some new ideas on what genres to use for this project… although it is a little late for that kind of thinking!
I like that this chapter mentions that the multi-genre project allows someone to break away from the usual forms of composition such as the research paper. This is something I have thought about since the beginning of the semester when I first laid eyes on our syllabus and what Project Three entailed. I’m not sure I am quite as excited anymore… terrified may be the more proper term for the emotion I am currently feeling…
although Molly definitely showed me in class today that I am overthinking this project.
Anyways, back to the reading. I hadn’t really thought of making my pieces work together, although I am not sure why; clearly, it makes sense to do so. Thankfully, my pieces don’t clash and actually work together quite nicely.
I found out that I am mostly focusing on the rhetorical appeal of pathos when reading this chapter. Although, one of my pieces could be seen as utilizing logos as well as egos. But I definitely made sure to mix up my modes and media to keep my audience entertained. A video, podcast, and short informal writing are about as diverse as you can get.
Now, I am not sure if this is Brandi’s way of telling us to write a two-page introduction for our project, but I definitely read that in this chapter. I see how this is helpful but for someone still trying to get the pieces done a two-page introduction is daunting.
I also never thought about titling my project; I guess it had slipped my mind. There is so much that goes into picking a title that is memorable and that sparks the interest of the viewer. It will take a good bit of thought before I come to choose a title I am fond of.
Finally, the “design” part of the project is certainly how to package it. I plan on packaging my project on a webpage. Although it isn’t tangible, it will be able to reach a large audience and the design of the webpage itself will do the project justice. Here’s a teaser:

Reflecting on Chapter 10 (BBG)
The title of chapter ten “Assembling a Multigenre Project” lets us know that the content of the chapter is going to directly pertain to what we’re doing in class right now. Project three is a multigenre project, and so a chapter that talks about how to assemble on is pretty helpful. Once again, The Bedford Book of Genres reminds us of the importance of our rhetorical situations, and reminds us to use the rhetorical appeals to our advantage.
The chapter then goes on to provide us with the steps to assembling a multigenre project. The “introduce your project and provide context” point should be helpful when we write our rationales for our various campaigns since we need to talk about the choices we made in each genre and analyze our pieces rhetorically. The chapter also recommends creating an author’s or artist’s statement for each genre, but I’m not sure if we need to do that for this class or if it’s just something to consider.
Unsurprisingly, chapter nine also includes a guided reading section that provides examples of multigenre projects. While these projects seem a little bigger than what we’re working on, I still think the information and examples are useful.
I agree that the information in this chapter was pretty helpful, and very relevant to what we are doing with project three! The examples, although they were based on bigger projects, were still pretty helpful to me.
CH 10 BBG
SFH Readings and Analyzing Visual Rhetoric 11.17.15
This was an interesting set of readings for this project. Being a self-proclaimed artist myself (I try not to get too carried away), I can say that most of the information I read about editing images and using them in projects (i.e. placing, cropping, and modifying) as well as using color schemes were all familiar concepts to me. I grasped them easily and can confidently say I see myself having no trouble in this department for Project Three.
The section about fonts did peak my interest though. Because I plan on making a website for my Project Three to house my three genres, I now know that the best fonts to use would be san sarif fonts because they are easy to read on a computer or other digital device. I will also be sure to listen to the advice of using white space to your advantage when building my website. I will only be uploading three pieces to the page but clutter is easy to come by. To avoid clutter I will be sure to space everything out and maybe even put the genres on different pages. The final reading on analyzing visual rhetoric will be most helpful when doing a final revision of my project, as it is essentially a checklist on your project’s organization, readability, images, and layout, while as always analyzing its audience, purpose, genre, and medium.
First of all, I’m extremely dissapointed in you. I always look forward to your little gifs and fun things, but I was sad this time. You really need to step up your game. On a different note, I wish I could say the same about being educated on the artistic aspects that will be associated with this project, but I’m not. At all. I’m definitely gonna have to work hard to make my projects nice and visually appealing, so I’ll probably be using these readings for reference.
Reflecting on “SFH Layout and Pages”, “SFH Images and Photos” and “Analyzing Visual Rhetoric”
If four years of working on my high school yearbooks has taught me anything it’s that a good layout is more important than you might think. If something pretty to look at you can get an audience to, at the very least, give your work a second glance.
The reading “SFH Layout and Pages” brought up a lot of pertinent information I kept in mind back when I designed the pages for the yearbook, and refreshed my memory on some important things that I’ll need to remember while working on project three.
“SFH Images and Photos” also reminded me of a lot of important things from my yearbook days. Color schemes, for instance, are delicate things—you don’t want anything to clash, if using text readability must be kept in mind, etc.
Finally, “Analyzing Visual Rhetoric” provided us with a kind of checklist we can use while working on project three. It provides questions we can ask ourselves as we work such as: does the design appeal to your audience?
We can also ask ourselves these questions once again after we complete our genres just to be sure they’re doing everything they need to do. For example, I will be sure to go back and alter the coloring on one of my genres thanks to this reading (and some advice from Ms. B).
I agree that layout is so important for targeting an audience, and these readings definitely reiterated that. If we want our audiences to be reached effectively, we have to catch their attention and keep it. I feel like the style and design of our medias is definitely the way to do that.

Viral Marketing Reflection
What is viral marketing? Viral marketing as Wikipedia describes it are “marketing techniques that use pre-existing social networking services and other technologies to try to produce increases in brand awareness”. Or more simply it’s putting an advertisement out into the world and allowing people to promote it and share it with each other.
What does it do? Viral marketing makes spreading information easier. It decreases the work load of businesses and advertisers by allowing people to share information and market their projects for them. The term “virus” is used to describe the scenario because as the campaign increases with popularity among the masses, the information is shared like a virus.
How does it work? It works when people pick up on an idea and use the readily available tools to share it. Social media has greatly increased this trend for advertisers to utilize viral marketing strategies. One of the reads included the Old Spice commercial from a few years ago, which most of us all remember and maybe even quote still. Another one that recently came out it the gum wrapper commercial that follows the couple throughout their relationship. I first saw it shared on Facebook and Twitter before I saw it on TV. I bet that company has more sales now that it’s had in a long time because everyone has now seen that one ad.
When does it work? Viral marketing generally works if it identifies with its target audience or makes them feel some sort of emotion. Whether that emotion is happy and evokes a smile or is more somber and makes someone feel sentimental, the ad has to reach people on some level. Boring ads or poorly timed ones that don’t reach the audience in the right way will never be candidates for successful viral marketing.
I didn’t really think about the emotion aspect, but you’re right... It does work when the audience feels an emotion. We tend to pay way more attention to things that target our emotions, so that’s definitely a really important aspect of viral marketing!
Viral Marketing
A viral market is a way for promotion that relies on getting customers to market an idea, product through online means and having people spread word about it to others. It is a marketing technique that uses preexisting social networking to produce an increase in awareness of certain products. It can be delivered my spoken words and enhanced with the internet and social media. Some examples of viral marketing are the following: video clips, interactive Flash games, advergames, ebooks, brandable software, images, text messages, email messages, or web pages. It works with people posting videos or other forms of media online and people see it. If they like it, they share the link or reblog or tell their friend about it. The message travels from person to person and the product or whatever is being advertised becomes more and more popular. This works when the product and way it is marketed is appealing to customers and gets their attention. The advertisement has to be interesting enough to make people want to show others how awesome of a product it is. Viral Marketing is sort of like a chain reaction because people share something with others, who in turn share it again, and the cycle keeps happening resulting in the product gaining much popularity.
I like the way you pointed out that Viral Marketing is like a “chain reaction”. It really is, and that’s the only way it can ever be successful. I feel like I see viral marketing every day, with new people starting to advertise the same things. Viral Marketing is definitely becoming the new big thing, and companies are starting to gain so much popularity because of it!

The idea was revolutionary. It was magnificent. So new and uncomfortable was this idea that it moved three ships full of weary souls across uncharted waters, toward lands that only possibly existed. So powerful and brave was this idea, that it penned a Declaration that would serve as the foundation of an entire nation. So grand and rebellious was this idea that it funded the war that would separate unhappy peace from happy unrest. So successful and untimely was this idea, that it killed all notion of equality across races, leading to selective bondage. So maddening was this idea, that the injustice served by its better intentions ignited a fire within the ones captivated, leading to the formation of the greatest secrets ever known. So elusive was this idea kept in shadows, so special and unique, that the facade of the idea began to match its reality. So imaginative was this idea, that the birth of killing for the name of…something, was commercialized, was modernized, and was glossed over. This idea of freedom, across all generations and cultures, is now sold as something tangible. The currency at the expense of the lives our military, only serving because they have no other choice due to the nature of our economy…(to be continued)
Since it’s so unfinished, this is hard to analyze. I really like it so far though! The repetition at the beginning is really cool. To answer the questions, I think this is either going to be informative or persuasive. The “idea” you’re referring to is freedom, right? That’s kind of what I got from it. I think the purpose is to inform people about freedom. Like I said, it’s hard to tell where this is going since this is all I have to go on. This definitely uses pathos, with your word choices. You use extremely powerful words and topics that definitely appeal to emotions. For writing style: you use repetition which reiterates this “idea”, but keeps the audience intrigued, wondering what the idea could possibly be. Finally, the idea is revealed, after creating sort of a suspenseful atmosphere. The tone of this document is very serious, but I think that fits in with the topic. It is a serious topic. The way the document is organized keeps the reader intrigued. Since you don’t automatically reveal the “idea” the reader is left wondering what it could possibly be, so they keep reading. I think this is really interesting and very well written/organized. I would definitely want to read the rest of it!

BBG Chapter 9 Reflection
Well its Monday and that means another Tumblr post, Yay! These have become something I dread as the months have gone on and I can not even really say why except most of the time the reading is repetitive. This chapter was yet again full of things I knew before I read it but it also had some interesting things in it that will be helpful for my future assignments in not only this class but others as well.
Revising work is a thing that most of us typically know how to do. First drafts are never perfect as they are just full of random and unorganized thoughts as we attempt to just get our points out on paper. This chapter reminded me how important it is to get another set of eyes to look at and revise your paper due to the fact that we as writers have a hard time being objective with their own writing. For me, I ask my roommate, my dad, or my sister to review my papers and projects before I turn it in. However, it is also extremely beneficial to have one’s teacher or classmates review the work as well. Having the teacher review it is important because they are the one who is grading it and knowing their opinion is vital. It is also helpful for a classmate to view it over someone else as they know the prompt and the expectations of the teacher.
The brevity of this chapter was refreshing and the information was overall helpful.
I agree that having other people look over our work is incredibly important. However, the stuff in this part of the chapter was repetitive stuff I’ve known for a long time now. I thought it was kindof a waste of time, BUT it is important information that will be useful when revising papers.
Chapter 9 BBG Reflection
First of all, this chapter was 20 pages? Score.
But really, let’s get to why this chapter is important.
I definitely think that the last segment about remixing your work is key to what we’re doing in this class. And of course, the best way to show how this remixing process works is to give an example. If any of you are struggling like I am to figure out how to put your topic into a relatable form that your audience would like, then this chapter is a heaven sent. What I’ve been confused about is if I should change my emphasis when I put my work into different genres and medias. In the book, the person turned their movie review into a 10 reasons powerpoint that was super persuasive and very informal. Yet, they got that from a review. So the possibilities are endless. You just have to unlock them… and I have to not be so narrow minded about the project’s possibilities. So it was really helpful to see a working and accurate transformation in the book. Hopefully I can accomplish it in the same way!
I thought the example was helpful, but there wasn’t enough information in that part of the chapter to REALLY help me. I’m still lost! I agree that there are endless possibilities, I’m just really struggling to find them!
