Preferably a small butane torch, or maybe an electric arc lighter.
Everyone should carry a USB cord and charger for their phone.

If you can, find one that has a button. Twist-on sucks.
If you can, find one without “modes;” modes are useless.
If you can, find one that’s waterproof.
As small as you can consider useful, as bright as you can consider affordable.
Loop it somewhere with a quick detach.
Most people should carry a bottle opener.
Everyone should carry a handkerchief. Microfiber is good for this.
Keep your keys/keyring minimal.
Don’t put metal stuff in the same pocket as your phone.
Don’t put fiddly stuff in the same pocket as your phone.
If you can, make it so you don’t have to “dig” for anything.
Don’t be afraid to modify your clothes to suit your EDC.
If you aren’t sure about your EDC, set it out.
Anything that’s used 1/day, that goes on your body. Anything that doesn’t fit, goes in your main bag.
Anything that gets used 1/week, that goes in your main bag. Anything that doesn’t fit goes in your car, or your commute bag (if you have one).
Everything else goes in the car or commute bag, unless it fits.
Work to carry less (weight and volume) and do more.
Function first. Form from function.
