“No, I’ll be okay. I promise. It was just a rough day. Hence the pile of empty Butterbeers. Would you like one?”
“All mums love me, I’m like catnip for parents.” Remus laughed, capturing her lips with his. Their noses rubbed together affectionately. He sat up, positively grinning as the candy cart rode by their compartment. As he dropped a small mountain of chocolate into her lap, he seemed to muse on her new position with renewed interest. “Are you staying at your mum’s house? While you work there?”
“I believe that. You are incredibly charming.” Calliope teased, smiling down at him softly. She looked at the pile of sweets now in her lap, taking one of the chocolate frogs. “I’ll stay with her until I find my own place. Ideally I think I’d like to be closer to the city, so it would be easier to get to and from work. I haven’t really thought about it, I still can’t believe I made it out of Hogwarts alive.”
Strange. While Remus knew they had met working on the paper, it had always appeared more as a hobby to him than an actual job. Perhaps, in part because it allowed him access to enough charmed parchment to make a certain map and several first drafts, but nonetheless. Remus returned the kiss with vigor, only belatedly glad for his mates’ absence. How long their silence would last was questionable. “Alright, breadwinner.” He said, running a hand through her hair. “So what does that mean? When do I get to see you?” The werewolf asked, pressing his lips to her jaw.
“You get to see me at nighttime, and days that I’m off. You can also come by the paper once I’ve settled in. I’m sorry to be the one to break it to you, but we’re still going to see each other all the time,” she teased, kissing his forehead softly. Her birthday was only a little over a week away, and the idea of Remus meeting her mother made her nervous. He had already met Phoebe, of course, and the only other family member she had was her mum. “So, I just want to warn you...my mum is...I don’t know how to put it. Um, she’s not very supportive, she’s kind of just there...so if you want to avoid her at the party, we can.” Calliope paused, placing her hand on his jaw. “But I know she’ll love you, because I do.”
“And what if it all goes totally wrong then? I am just a total dork when it comes to relationships, and scared to lose him as a friend if it does not work out. But I also cannot ignore all those feelings anymore now.” Annabelle sighed.
“If it doesn’t work out, then it wasn’t meant to be. I don’t know.” The brunette shrugged. “You’ve crossed a line you can’t go back from, and if you two want to pursue this...I say go for it. I’ve only been in one relationship before this, and the guy was very different from Remus. So I may not have enough experience.”
Wills huffed, his parents just didn’t understand the importance of the wizarding world to him, it was the one place where he actually fit in and was accepted. “I’ve tried telling them, they keep telling me it’s too dangerous as if he would turn up at Hogwarts and start throwing curses.” Sometimes he wished he had parents who were the same as him, they would know the safest place for him would be at school. When Callie offered for her mum to talk to his parents he got a little hopeful, he knew Callie’s mum was a muggle, they’d talked about having muggle parents before. “Do you think your mum would do it? Maybe they’d understand it better coming from another parent.”
“I understand. If my dad was alive, he’d be the same way. My mum doesn’t really care. Um, I worded that wrong. She believes they wouldn’t allow us to come back to school if it was too dangerous, and she knows we’re taught to defend ourselves if we ever need to, you know?” Callie asked with a light shrug. “Yeah, I think she would do it if I asked her,” she nodded confidently with a smile. “I can ask her about it when I get home. She and Phoebe are in the middle of planning our birthday party...and it got boring, so I thought I’d get some air. I honestly don’t care what color the napkins are.”
“One of my best friends for years kissed me out of the blue. And… I liked it. and now I have no idea what I should do…”
“Tell them you liked it. It’s not that complicated, most relationships start out of friendship. I was close to Remus before we started dating.”
Remus had been sprawled out on one of the squashier chairs, his squill idly moving across the curve of one particular brunette’s jawline on parchment when he heard her voice. He quickly shoved the paper under the cushion of his seat and grinned at the girl stampeding in.
He opened his arms, tugging her toward him. “Love, I didn’t even know you’d applied.” He beamed, pressing a kiss to her nose. “Tell me everything.”
Calliope moved to sit in her boyfriend’s lap as they sat on the train. It was a long ride home, or what seemed like a long ride since she was so impatient. “I didn’t tell you in case I didn’t get it,” she shrugged, letting out a sigh. It wasn’t a secret that Calliope was insecure. “Well, I applied about three months ago when they were taking applications. So next week I’ll start working for them. I’m so excited,” she chuckled, leaning to kiss him softly.
He sighed deeply, throwing one last hit at the bag before turning around to face Callie. She wasn’t wrong, he wouldn’t hurt anyone, not even a fly, it wasn’t in his nature. As soon as Wills saw her stance he knew he wouldn’t get away with a phony lie. “I had to tell my mum and dad about the war, and now they’re worried and don’t want me to go back for my seventh year.”
A sympathetic look appeared over Calliope’s face. If her father was alive, he would’ve stopped her going to Hogwarts years ago, but now she didn’t have to worry. She had graduated, and her mother didn’t need to worry herself about Calliope and Phoebe anymore. Callie understood having muggle parents, and she understood how hard it was to get through to them. “Is there anything I can do?” She finally asked. “Maybe have my mum talk to them? Express how important the last year is?” Year seven had been hell for Callie, for several reasons, but her twin sister seemed to have a good time.
“Is it normal for my body to feel as if it’s falling apart and for me to feel like at any moment my eyes are going to shut and never open?”
“Yes. But you’re a braver woman than I am...so I’m jealous.”
Wills hit the punching bag hard, his usual happy demeanour gone after having to explain to his parents what was happening in regards to the war. They were muggles for Merlin’s sake, they would never understand and now they were telling him he couldn’t go back to Hogwarts? It was the safest damn place in Britain. He heard someone coming up behind him, the last thing he wanted to do was talk. “If you don’t want to become the punching bag then please walk away.”
“I know you won’t hurt me.” Calliope said softly, continuing to walk up to her fellow Hufflepuff. Sure, she had just graduated, but she still considered other Hufflepuffs family. He wasn’t usually like this - not from her experience with him. So she let out a sigh, crossing her arms firmly to let him know she wasn’t going away. “What’s bothering you?”

Well, I like you. You’re nice and you’re funny. And you don’t smoke. Yeah, OK, werewolf, but that’s not all the time.

“I’ve also been lost in my own little world. Busy with school and trying to decide what to do with my future.”
“I know what I want to do with my future, but I still feel a little lost sometimes, you know? This is a rough age.”
Calliope eagerly searched the halls for her boyfriend. The brunette had just gotten the letter in the mail. ‘Ms. Langdon, we are pleased to inform you that you have been chosen for an internship at the Daily Prophet beginning immediately after your departure from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry’. She let out a squeal of happiness before running to the Gryffindor common room, searching for Remus. “Babe!” Callie screamed as she saw him. “Your girlfriend is going to be working for the Daily Prophet! I got chosen for the internship! They chose me!” { @maraudingmoon }
“Right now works for me.” She replied with an enthusiastic grin. “Oh wow, this is amazing. You’re published? Now how come I didn’t know that?”
“I don’t know. I kind of had a...slump earlier this year where I didn’t submit much. That could be why.”
Esme squinted playfully at the girl. “You know what, I think I see it now.”
Calliope giggled, shaking her head. “So how are you?”
