“hey you can diss it till you try it.” he winked before chuckling, “pretty sure lady gaga’s idea of a disco stick is my idea of a fun stick. or maybe she’s referring to a fake one? who would know.” as he held the girl down, staring at her intently, trying to find or think of something the recieve his notebook back. as she pushed his hand away from her face, he decided on a different approach. it was a move he wasn’t ashamed to make really, because it was not out of character in any sense. with the same hand, romeo slid it slowly down her side. “c’mon calli, if you wanted me to touch you this bad you could’ve just said.” unsure how she’d react, but taking the risk however.

“is it?” her head cocked to the side as she thought. “honestly, most of her earlier songs are just filled with random things that I don’t know what they meant or if they meant anything. sometimes random is just random.” the girl stated simply as she continued to stretch her arm out of reach, making sure he wasn’t able to retrieve the notebook. a small tsk escaped her pink lips as he made his next move. “romeo, you silly silly boy.” calliope reprimanded with a small laugh. “while it’s truth that I’m attractive and you are attractive and I believe both of us think that about the other one, and usually that means deciding to have sex, you’re hooking up with rosamie.” her words stated as if she was presenting concrete evidence to a courtroom. “who is not only my roommate, but my best friend in this world. and the saying is ‘chicks before dicks’ not ‘dicks before chicks.”

rolling his eyes as she called him no fun, “oh i’m fun, even have this thing called a fun stick.” he was using a more muted language then usual but it was the way he always did around her. “wait no–” before he could finish speaking her hands had pulled the book from his grip. however his fast reaction to save what was inside the notebook may result in who knows. practically jumping from his position, one hand reaching for his book and the other grabbing her face by her jaw, forcing her to look at him as he kept her eyes on his instead of the book. “calliope, give it back.”

calliope scrunched up her nose at his words, sticking her tongue out at him. “I don’t know if I’d call it that. all I think of when I hear fun stick is that candy fun dip and lady gaga when she talks about a disco stick. actually, that would be a cool combination.” she thought to herself for a moment before shaking her head. the girl continued trying to keep it away from him as she erupted in laughs. growing up with four brothers, she knew how to handle herself in a light wrestling match. though, when his hand fell against her jaw and turned it towards him, she grabbed his hand and kept it away from her, still holding the book away from him. “why? you got some love letters in here or something? you keep a diary, romeo?”

pastel curls bounced as the small female shook her head. “listen..” she began, her small voice competing with the loud music blaring from someone’s portable speaker. “you asked truth and I gave you my truth.” her small smile pink as her cheeks. “I have no idea what I identify as. Are boys cute?” calliope pretended to think for a moment, doll-like eyes looking around as the alcohol flowing through her veins made her even more bubbly, if that was even possible. “yeah! they’re really fucking cute. but do I think girls are majestic creatures and I sometimes don’t know if I want to be them or be on top of them? .....yeah!” pastel nails gripping a vodka soaked cherry as she popped it in her mouth. “alright. your turn anyway. truth or dare?”

he wasn’t about to lie and say hanging with calliope wasn’t like babysitting, but her behaviour versus his sure made it feel that way. closing his notebook as she went to snoop, “that’s for me to know, and you to not find out.” he shrugged. “want me to rip you out a blank page so you can do some drawing?” a small smug grin on his face as he began to tease the female, trying to take the attention off him.

“you sir, are no fun.” she declared with a little fake pout. sure, calliope knew she could come off a little childish, but mainly she fought to keep that optimistic spirit she had. even if people thought it made her infantile, embracing her bouncy and energetic self was something she realized was more enjoyable than trying to quell her tendencies. “alright, but I’ll tear it out.” the girl replied with a small smirk as she attempted to snatch the notebook away from him.

he let her ramble on, as if he was actually listening to what she had to say, but his mind was off on better topics. nodding slightly as he glanced up from his notebook, a half hearted smile on his lips. it wasn’t until he had her hands shoved into his line of sight did he snap to the current reality of the conversation, “aren’t you a little old for like finger painting?” it was clear he hadn’t listened, but that wasn’t a worry to romeo.

calliope had a tendency to just talk. usually about nothing in particular. but rambling was something of her superpower. his retort caused her to give him a confused look, followed with a bright laugh. “you don’t finger paint with markers. it’s an alcohol based marker and it’s just on me now.” the girl couldn’t help but glance over to the notebook he had been writing in, probably being a little too nosy. “whatcha writing?”

“Why do you use markers for your coloring books? Won’t it bleed into the next page?” Honestly that was her main focus and the only part of the story she focused on. “Umm try peroxide, or nail polish remover with acetone, or body scrub, or make up remover or something.”

“yeah, kinda but sometimes the best pictures need the awesome blendability of markers. so it’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make!” calliope explained, still rubbing away at the faded colors on her skin. “I have tried everything. it’s like I’m just going to turn into a rainbow person for eternity. which, I mean wouldn’t be the worst thing to happen, but still.”

“am not! this is serious business!” the girl replied in dramatic anguish. “if I don’t have this design done by today, I am dead meat and my tablet just decided to stop working!”

“ice cream is the only solution,” rosamie confirmed, sticking out a grabby hand as her room mate joined her on the couch with two bowls of ice cream. “first this bitch tried to test me while i was on my lunch break before work, then on my way home my mom called-” she rolled her eyes with a sigh. she didn’t explain, knowing that if anyone knew the depth of the feelings she was having toward her mother recently it was calliope. she knew everything about her and vice versa. “she’s still trying to act like she didn’t lie to me for my whole fucking life-” the femme grumbled, stabbing the firm ice cream with her spoon. “-she’s trying to move on like this doesn’t change anything.” @calliopeqt

“it usually is for most situations.” the girl replied, handing the bowl over to her roommate before flopping down beside her. “unless the problem is too much sugar in your diet. then ice cream wouldn’t be the answer.” thinking aloud with a little shrug as she plunged her spoon into the ice cream and popping it into her mouth. calliope looked over at her friend, listening intently and nodding her head. “alright, first: who is this girl and where do I find her to beat her up?” she asked with a small smile. it was true that calliope would kill or die for rosamie. that was her best friend. the closest thing she had to a sister. so even when anyone messed with her just the tiniest bit, she was there like her own little guard dog. “as for your mom...I think she’s just trying to support you. I know this is a big shock and you aren’t just going to get over it, but don’t lose her over this. she did raise you. she loves you.” her hand lazily mixing the spoon in the ice cream before taking another bite. mothers weren’t her area of expertise since hers had left so many years ago. but she always tried to help. “I could give you a reading if that’ll calm your worries.”

“so-” the girl began adjusting herself in her seat as if she was gearing up to tell the most earth shattering story the other had ever heard. “-I was doing a coloring book today and it was like a fucking amazing asassians creed one so I busted out my good markers.” her smile becoming more bright as she spoke. “so there I am, coloring away, having the time of my life and the picture looks amazing but then I look down at my hands and look!” calliope shoved her hand forward, her skin decorated with splotches of ink. “now, I have a job interview tomorrow and the ink won’t come out!”

I swear I saw CALLIOPE KING around campus yesterday. I hear SHE is very BUBBLY, ECCENTRIC & SOPHOMORIC, which explains why when you think of them, you’d think of THE WHOLE AESTHETIC OF PASTEL GOTH & PLAYING SCARY VIDEO GAMES IN THE DARK. They’re in their FRESHMAN year and studying VIDEO GAME DESIGN.

○  born and raised in nyc, this girl lives for the city. she is the youngest of five kids and the only girl in the family. so, yes children, if y’all wanna date her, be prepared to face with protective older brothers.

○  when she was seven, her mother left for work one day and never came back. no one in the family has heard from her since. her dad decided he needed to just roll with the punches and from that day on, he became a super single dad.

○  her fascination with video games came from her brothers influence on her. even at the ripe young age of one, her brothers used to give her a controller and told her she was playing the bad guys. it was a foolproof plan.

○  calliope has always been energetic. she moved around a lot, always wanted to try new things, and never could make decisions very easily. at nine, she was formally diagnosed with ADHD.

○  loves all things ghost related. legit is the girl with evp recorders and records of all the interesting deaths that happened in the cities she’s near. she claims she can talk to ghosts.

○  loves pastels with a passion. she is basically the aesthetic of pastel goth come to LIFE

○  calliope loves cats. like loves cats

○  at the age of sixteen, her and her eldest brother, tomás were simply spending some time outside of their little apartment complex. next thing they knew, five gunshots rung out and everything went dark for the girl. she finally came to at the hospital. a bullet entered behind her ear and caused a bit of her skull to shatter and lodge in her brain. after hours of surgery, calliope was able to be saved. however, tomás didn’t make it. he died immediately from a bullet to the chest. the kings later found out that the motive was actually the result of a false identification of tomás as someone who owed the culprits money. calliope was simply a causality of this “hit”. tomás’ murderers were eventually put away.

○  as a complication of surgery, calliope developed synesthesia (a condition that fuses two senses together). now, when she hears certain sounds or words, she sees colors that she now attributes them to. calliope doesn’t mind this. she finds it makes the world a little more colorful. and it’s a cool party trick to tell people what their color is. however, if she’s around too many noises, it can become overwhelming.
