i make no apologies for whatās happened here
[Okay, so I really can't promise that I'll stay active over here, as much as I'd love to. I woke up today with a strong Indy muse, but I don't know whether it will last, since I don't have a lot of time to RP these days.
If anyone's interested, you're more likely to find me on my Loki account, phantomauguries.]
"Indiana Jones," he nodded, as though receiving compliments on his whip were an everyday occurrence. "Iāmā well, an archaeologist, if you didnāt already know. I was contacted on your behalf about procuring some antiquities for your private collection. Ring any bells?"
"Hm⦠Oh! Yes, yes, I remember." He nodded, before sitting up straighter in his chair. "Hold on, I have the list here somewhereā¦" He trailed off as he rifled through the drawers, eventually pulling out a sheet of paper which he slid across to him. "Why do you need a whip for getting antiques?"Ā
Dr. Jones glanced over the list, his eyebrows raising higher the further he read. Stark was richer than he'd guessed. Damn.
"You'd be surprised how useful it can be," he responded dismissively. "Maybe you oughta give one a try. Just be careful those first few swings-- they'll sneak up on you."
Indy paused, breathing a quiet laugh as the paper fell away from his line of sight. "Y'know, I don't know if your father ever mentioned me, but he and I were buddies back in the war. Mutual dislike for Nazis made us a pretty good pair. Never would've guessed Howard had all this in him."
"Thanks. Itās been with me through a lot.
Sayā youāre not one of my new students, are you?ā
"Uhā No, Iām notā Iām not a student."
"Are you lost or somethinā?"
"I don't get lost, sweetheart.
Why?"
Well look what the cat dragged in.
Donāt look so pleased to see me.
Oh, I get it. You're so happy to see me you're speechless.
Aha, I see. What did you find? Anything Juicy? [She shifts her stance into something more relaxed, arms folding over her chest] It's been pretty quiet without you around. [Her tone takes on a hint of mischief] Lacking in eye candy too
You could say that.
Remind me who you work for, again? It can't have been that quiet.
Vell, vell, vell.
Elsa.
Dr. Jones.
Up to no good, I see.
callmeindiana started following you
"Cool hat."
"Thanks. It's been with me through a lot.
Say-- you're not one of my new students, are you?"
callmeindianaĀ
"ā Nice whip." he commented, canting his head as he absently scratched at his chin. "Tony Stark."
"Indiana Jones," he nodded, as though receiving compliments on his whip were an everyday occurrence. "I'm-- well, an archaeologist, if you didn't already know. I was contacted on your behalf about procuring some antiquities for your private collection. Ring any bells?"
"If all of them looked like you Iād have a lot less.
Still, Iāve learned to deal with Thor and his magical world-saving euphemism. Not saying Iām thrilled about the intrusion, but not all of you are half bad. So long as youāre not constantly trying to conquer the world.ā
Ā āThis world is lackluster; there is little appeal to it. Though I am growing quite fond of the amount of flattery I receive wherever I tread. I assure you ,I have not the pre-meditated desire for saving this realm, nor am I a friend of the Thunderer who has named himself its protector.
What title do you hold upon this realm, Indiana?ā
"Charming. Well, maybe you just need to get to know it a little better. I've seen things on this world that I think would impress even you." He doesn't say it outright-- not yet, anyway-- but he's tempted to mention his own Holy Grail induced immortality. That's got to be worth something to a god, right?
"I'm a professor of archaeology at Marshall College. Lackluster, as you might put it, but I like to occasionally think I make a difference. I also spend quite a bit of time practicing archaeology in the field, tracking down rare antiquities. A few of which I'd be willing to bet came from Asgard."
Well....uh....certain things have happened while you were away. But that's a rather complicated story. How have you been? I was worried. Jane was as well.
Always is.
I've been fine, Cas. Believe it or not, I've gotten by a long time without either of you. I'm a big boy. I can take care of myself.
Actually, I've been up inĀ TĆønsberg looking into something for Jane. Thought she might have figured that out, but maybe she forgot about the promise I made.
"Oh, sure. That coupled with the old 'I'll save you from the wrath of angry gods' thing tends to work wonders with the ladies. A lot better than the college professor from Connecticut thing, anyway.ā Even as he returned her quip, Indy eyed her warily, as though he wasnāt entirely accustomed to women showing up in full costume.
"Nameās Indiana Jones. Iām in town for the museumās exhibit on the sacrifice rituals of the indigenous American peoples. Donāt suppose youāve heard about it?"
Selina laughed as she lowered herself fluidly into a crouch on the edge of the roof. āI donāt need saving from anyone, darling, so Iām afraid thatās not going to be as useful here. But Iāll keep it in mind.ā
Her claws scraped over the mortar and stone under her, eyes narrowing. āI didnāt know they practiced sacrifice. Unless you mean South American.ā She shrugged. āI donāt hear much about what goes on in the Museum unless itās cat-themed or expensive. Or unless someoneās employed me to steal it.ā
He grinned ruefully, shoving his hands in his pockets. "Yeah-- I'll admit, the rugged adventurer line works a little better in the jungle. Still, it's a brave new world, as they say. Can't blame an old dog trying new tricks."
He waved a hand dismissively. "Well, if you want to split hairs-- there's evidence of the practice among the Mississippian, Pawnee, and Iroquois tribes of North America. But you're right, of course. The exhibition focuses primarily on the Mixtec, Maya, and Aztec, since those are the ones everyone's interested in. My mistake."
Now that was an interesting tidbit. She really had a thing for cats, didn't she?
"What are you? A--" he stopped himself from saying the word thief. In the world of archaeology, it was a dirty term, and one that had been applied to himself more times than he liked to count. "A procurer of valuable antiquities?"
Dr Jones. It's a pleasure to see you again.
Agent Morse. How's SHIELD treating you?
Vell, vell, vell.
Elsa.
What are you talking about? I'm radiating joy. Can't you feel it. -She smiles and lightly punches his shoulder- How've you been, Indy?
Sure, sure. [Though his words are begrudging, he offers a genuine grin.]
I've been up inĀ TĆønsberg, Norway the past couple of months. What, with relations between Earth and Asgard being what they are, I figure it doesn't hurt to see what I can dig up on our new mythological neighbors.
And I've been looking into something for Jane.
Well look what the cat dragged in.
Donāt look so pleased to see me.
What are you looking at me like that for? Cat got your tongue?
Well look what the cat dragged in.
Don't look so pleased to see me.
