“It happens once a year, it doesn’t seem like too much cause for celebration.”
“Then don’t buy into it, just enjoy the fancy drinks and the night off. I plan too.”
“Happy New Year!” Smee said cheerily, spending this one in Neverland rather than a cell already elevating his mood.
“Happy New Year, got any resolutions?”
“Alright, just this once.”
“We made it through another year, might as well celebrate a little.”
elizajaneface arrived …. 😑😕…. Yay?
“I know. I am. I take the name and make it look adorable.”
“No arguments there, though Dumpling might fight you for the title of cutest Roger.”
“Whoa…. First one of the night?”
“First in a while, actually.”
“We should drink rum and sing ‘pirates life for me’!”
“You’re an evil genius, Vee.”
“Bottoms up, Miss Donnelly.”
“Thatcher, I didn’t think I’d see you here.”
“Cheers, big ears!”
“Another year in the life of the pirates.”
“Cheers!”

“You may be the chancellor, but I’m in charge.”
“I’m home!” Vaeda yelled out as she ran up the stairs. “Where is my welcome home party?”
“If I had to throw a welcome home party for everyone I cared about when they came home, I’d have to throw exactly...” Hannah paused for dramatic effect before answering. “Two. Welcome home Vee.”
“That is a negatory. I also don’t know where he has disappeared to.” Vaeda tugged on a lock of Hannah’s hair affectionately. “We could build a stuffed Captain with a few pillows and an eyepatch if you want. Other than that, I can’t help you.”
“The stuffed Captain wouldn’t have use for this, now would he?” She waved the envelope in the space beside her right ear before returning it to her pocket. “But he would be make an excellent oversized toy for the pup.”
“Haven’t seen him all day.” Hayden was on his way out for the night, his pack heavy with dust. It felt strange attempting a job he had originally been assigned after — e v e r y t h i n g. But now that they had a larger stock, now that the competition had lessened, he could return to the duty with little trouble.
But it still felt strange. It still felt —– cleaner compared to what he had done.
“Might be holed up in his office though. He’s going to be happy with the collection?” he asked, his head dipping down toward the envelopes in her hand.
“I figure he might be,” Hannah looked up at Hayden. “It’s a pretty good sized envelope.” She said lifting it up to her eye level. “Are you on your way out?”
“Ah,” Thatcher nodded at her. “I don’t have any new names for you, so I suppose until he returns you can relax. Have you been resting like you ought to?” He smiled and nodded. “Yeah, that’s usually how it works with me. I do more than I should.”
Have you been resting like you ought to? Hannah almost asked him if he thought he was her father, but the joke never pasted her lips. “I relax enough.” She attempts to put him at ease, although her version of enough was probably far off from the mermans. Five or six hours of sleep on an average day, eight or nine on a good day, three or four during the war. Less on very bad days. Hannah and sleep had a very complicated relationship, she loved it in theory. A time to shut down, to let your body fix all it could, and that feeling of waking up in soft, warm sheets was nothing less than heavenly. But in practice, sleep was a time when you were completely defenseless. Everything could prey on you, even your own mind. “Have you been relaxing enough? Both our jobs have strenuous parts to them.”
“If you want to go ahead and explain to Hook why it disappeared, go ahead. Sounds like a great plan,” he joked, deadpan. It wasn’t as though they were the most honest group in the world. “Surprised they were foolish enough to make you wait at all, honestly,” Tobias chuckled. “But it depends. What did you do to them?” He highly doubted it was a few well placed words that got Hannah the extra.
Hannah didn’t say anything at first, but the look on her face said enough. The way her eyes floated up to the right, and the left corner of her mouth twitched upward in it’s place. She gave a little shrug. “When they have a foot on you, you have to get a little creative.” Her hand went into her pocket, pulling out the corner of a plastic shopping bag before tucking it back in. It didn’t leave any marks, and got the point across. That was the most efficient way to do it, for now.
