Every time I open this horrid website, I am exposed to at least five kinds of new Yankee nonsense that I do not need in my life. It seems like there is something in that country that makes people live life with an absolutist black and white morality where something is either 100% good or 100% bad, no nuance, and if something is 100% bad, then people related to it are inhuman monsters who have to be killed en masse to right our society, and at this point I probably should open this place only once a month to look at the funny cat pictures and the fanarts to preserve the final shreds of my nearly lost sanity

My hot take of the day:

Making every living person (especially people whose first language is English and who are from the UK or the USA) learn at least a second language would generally improve the quality of life of everyone and make monoligual english speakers much less obnoxious

I know people keep saying that balkanisation is a bad thing and stuff, but I gemuinely think that after a country gets a bit too big (say over 100 million citizens), it should be balkanised. I believe that life in the United Stats would be better if every single state in it was an independent country and that they would be in a trade union with each other

I'm so tired of all of these yanks realising that the United States is not the perfect place of freedom and liberty (etc.) so they then immediately pivot to the following line of thought "The USA is bad... therefore the things it opposes must be good," and then they start to do stuff like worshipping the Soviet Union without realising that it too was not that great place to bee in.

Hot take time:

No language is inherintly ugly or pretty, your conception of linguistic aesthetics is mainly based on cultural biases.

The reason why many (anglophone) people think that German is ugly is because the nazis (the bad guys in almost all war movies) spoke it and because in majority of recordings of Hitler he was yelling.

The reason why many (anglophone) people find French aesthetically pleasing is because the French language has been influencing the English language for around a thousand years.

Or it has something to do with sound symbolism and stuff, i dunno

Tyis sucks! New I need to try to find an SD card readr with the proper sice and all so that I can keep on workkng on my photography, sincr for some reason all similar cables are oit of stock seemingly everywhere! I'm starting to feel like the reason why so many people on Tumblr have such a high Shot Dog Response to everything they see is because they're trying to fit a nuanced worldview into an all-or-nothing brain, like shoving to a square peg into a round hole.

So while they understand that the "all X is Y" world view they've been taught is wrong, the concept of "not all X is always Y" is far too complex for their little brain, so it gets simplified into "no X is ever Y", and that's the stance that they are going to defend to death from now on.

Like they'll scroll through tumblr and see someone's post that's like "the bus driver that drives my route every morning has shaved his big moustache so for a second I didn't recognise him" and the thought process going on in their little brain is

Bus driver=he? He/him=male pronouns. All bus drivers ≠ male.

And the outraged reply they jump to is "how dare you assume that your bus driver was male just because they had a moustache, maybe they are nonbinary, nonbinary people can have a moustache without you assuming that they're male."

I'd like to know who named sounding as "sounding," since that name sounds more like a music/audio thing instead of the act of imserting objects into your urethra to make it bigger for medical reasons and/or sexual enjoyment

Gonna be 100% honest:

I do not get the point of bigotry. Like why would someone waste their time and energy pointlessly hating some group of people who just want to exist and live their lives?

people do live within their cultural and historical contexts but I think this idea is often just used to say “bigotry exists because back then people didn’t know better.” there have always been people, plural, against injustice and what we now know as human rights abuses. always. and there are always hateful extremists who were heavily criticized in their own time, but people leave that second part out. improvements were made because people recognized the problem, not because of some magical process that trends societies towards progress.
