After having starred in The Vampire Diaries for multiple seasons, did you discover anything new about your character upon assuming the roles of director and producer?

Paul Wesley: After having directed, I discovered, in hindsight, that I had been hard headed some creative issues or ideas, and I was not necessarily “right”.

As an actor, I had been viewing my role in the production from a very myopic point of view.

theres an over-arching theme and an overall objective and the director is the maestro so to speak.

many actors, such as myself, will argue over the slightest things, which are of course very meaningful to them or to their character. And it is important to believe in things or have a point of view, no doubt. But sometimes we lose sight of the entirety of the piece. As an actor, I now approach my work and my relationship with directors much differently after having directed.

You grew up in the New York City / New Jersey area and come from a theatre background. How has your theatre background has influenced the way in which you approach working in film and television?

Paul Wesley: I think that in television and even in film, it is easy to fall back on tricks. In theater, its not possible to rely on editing or, for instance, doing several takes in a row.

I enjoy the spontaneity and thrill of that. It is important to try to carry that attitude onto the screen as well.

You have been a part of multiple projects with ensemble casts, including The Vampire Diaries for eight seasons and most recently the first season of Tell Me a Story streaming now on CBS All Access. What do you enjoy most about working with an ensemble cast and the ability to collaborate?

Paul Wesley: This is a lame answer, but with ensembles it allows someone to have days off which is always nice!

But on a more serious note, i do think that an actor is only as good as the person they are working opposite. It is important to surround yourself with people you admire and respect as actors.

Many years ago Bryan Cranston played my father on a television series. I learned a lot working with him, not just because he’s an exceptional and present actor but because he has an incredible level of humility that I try my best to emulate.

Summary: Stefan Salvatore meets Caroline Forbes aged eight years old. And not one of them knows.

Author’s note: So big thank you for all the positive words of encouragement at my mini meltdown and bout of anxiety over this piece yesterday. I’ve decided, after much thought, to keep this as one piece and leave it as how it should be read. All 11K+ words of it. I hope you like it.

Mystic Falls, Virginia

“Damon?”

He’s answered by the sound of birdsong and buzzing insects.

The summer heat has the thin cotton of his shirt sticking to his back, his throat is parched and his small legs are aching from however long they have been out here. He can’t tell the time, Father having not gifted him a pocket watch yet.

Too expensive and not for little boys, he’d been told.

And besides, he’d laughed, “You boy? Know how to tell the time, do you?”

Why yes, he does. Damon had taught him last winter when they had been trapped indoors with little to do and much time to while away. But he hadn’t told him so, knows Father would have considered it an impertinence.

“Brother?” he calls again, “Please come out, I do not wish to play any more.”

Again, nothing but the sound of summer bringing the woods of Mystic Falls alive meets his call.

He tries not to panic.

Waking Up In Vegas (Multi Chap/Incomplete): Steroline have a one night stand in Vegas and get married, it’s super sweet and adorable and complex. Also angst, which is great!

Letters To You (Multi Chap/Complete): Set in 1944, Stefan is in the army, where he meets Matt, who is with Caroline. They become best friends, but Matt dies and Stefan blames himself, so he begins writing to Caroline. It’s like old, but just so, so good.

Forever Is A Long Time (One Shot/Complete): Seriously if you haven’t read this I don’t know what is wrong with you. It’s just their perfect future and I love it.

My Destiny (Multi chap/Incomplete): As the one shot above, this fic is by @sarcasticfina and is amazing. It’s set in season one and is based on if the roles between Stefan and Caroline were reversed. So Caroline is the vampire and Stefan is the human and it’s so cool.

Someone Like You (Multi Chap/Complete): So this is not the most complex fic and it moves quite quickly, but to me it’s a classic. It’s just basically set early season 2 and it’s what would happen if they just couldn’t stay away from each other.

Growing Up Is Hard To Do (Multi Chap/Complete): This is another classic for me and it’s just basically an angst fest. It involves a side of Delena, but it is just Caroline and Damon bonding over jealousy. Caroline is sort of OOC, but it’s just more that she is very internalized and dramatic and damaged. It’s still so good though.

Find My Way Back Home (Multi Chap/Complete): This fic is by the same author as the previous fic mentioned and as such, Caroline is slightly more dramatic than normal. In this fic, Stefan is heartbroken over Elena, so Caroline decides to take him on a roadtrip. The only problem is that she falls for him.

Stay With Me Forever (Multi Chap/Incomplete): Of course by @silverline3, Stefan and Caroline meet on a train, when they haven’t spoken since high school. It’s super good and interesting, although I do need to catch up on the updates!

Six Mornings After (Multi Chap/Incomplete): It’s like all over the Steroline tag, so if you haven’t read this by @sixmorningsafter, then you are missing out. It has both Steroline and Bamon, locked in an apartment for 6 days. Super funny!

The Request (Multi Chap/Incomplete): Haven’t read this in a while and it hasn’t been updated since early last year. But it’s a single parent Caroline AU and who can say no to that?

A Tale as Old as You and I (One Shot/Complete): By @smilinstar, great AU about Stefan and Caroline meeting when they were 8. They meet throughout the centuries and it’s a beautiful story.
