Traveler, a monoprint I made at the very beginning of the pandemic reaching the States, is in My Body My Truth at Dog and Pony, curated by Association of Hysteric Curators RSVP to [email protected] for the reception this Sunday, the 10th, 5:00 pm-7:00 pm. There's a nice review in The Inlander issue that came out today, October 7th.

A variety of fragments I just unloaded from the kiln. These are all for glaze experimenting.

Painting the inside of this giant head black black black, so when you look through the eyes and mouth, you'll only see absence.

This is made almost exactly as big as my kiln will allow in one piece. Maybe a hair bigger than it should be.

Some studio shots: the forms I use inside of clay sculptures before they're fired, a pinboard of bits, and a sketch for a quilt pattern I hope to make.

This week I've been trying to catch up on all the things that I forget to do: editing photos, following up with forms, getting the car fixed, etc. It's necessary, but I still wish I were in the studio, making things instead.

I'm spending some time today editing photos of this series for an online show curated by Jody Zellen for Beyond Baroque. At the end of 2020 and in early 2021, attending galleries in person was not feasible due to the pandemic. This project responds to the social isolation of 2020, and my desire to create intimate physically present art experiences. I created and mailed out 105 unique prints, made using small linocut symbols, each symbol inspired by a story from my year, and each print a different collection of stories--a bit of conversation between the recipient and myself. I've pulled 6 that include images of the goddess Hygieia, Greek goddess of health, cleanliness, and hygiene. So many internet friends that I was finally able to meet in physical space.

http://camillataylor.com/available I made the vases in two glaze treatments: clear gloss and matte charcoal. The subtle color of the porcelain, Nara from Aardvark, comes through the clear gloss glaze. Not quite white, not quite something else. My favorite vase is still up--I'm tempted to just keep it for myself.

I was on the phone with my friend @kimkeistudio and told her I'd just smash them. She cried "No! No! You can't! Please don't smash them!" With the urgency and despair as though I told her I was going to crush a small animal. So I saved them, and made four tiny pins. One is still available, ready to be rescued from my wanton cruelty.

I give each vase a little puff of breath to break the air bubbles that form over the eyes and mouth. It feels almost like a breath of life, after three vomited out all the glaze.
