BOOK GIVEAWAY
In honor of the upcoming Camp Baker Street weekend, we are giving away THREE, that’s right, THREE BOOKS!
The first book is Kim Newman’s Moriarty: The Hound of the D’Urbervilles, a retelling of several crimes committed by the infamous Professor, as narrated by his right-hand man Colonel Sebastian Moran. It brings in people, objects, and moments from the canon and from other Victorian fiction. The book jacket summary can be read above.
The other book is the two-volume Annotated Sherlock Holmes, a must-have for the Holmesian aficionado. Baring-Gould sorts the canon chronologically, includes illustrations, and thoroughly annotates every single story, as well as providing some biographical details about the main characters. Above you can find the climactic moment of The Three Garridebs as an example.
The Annotated Sherlock Holmes and one copy of The Hound of the D’Urbervilles will be given to a random attendee who registers by July 15. Registration details are here!
“But I can’t make it!” you cry, to which we respond, “Fear not, noble friend! One copy of The Hound of the D’Urbervilles will be given to a random reblogger of this post! You may feel free to reblog more than once, even, if you so desire, but take heed! You have only until July 15 to reblog! After that, the winners will be chosen!”
Remember, Camp Baker Street is happening in Clifton, VA, right outside Washington, D.C., from August 5-7! Registration is only $30 and includes lodging at the retreat center and Saturday dinner with s’mores! Here’s that link with the info again, just in case!
Registration is open!
The location opens up at 5PM Friday, August 5, and we close up at 1PM Sunday, August 7. We’re looking at doing some getting-to-know-you time on Friday evening (mad libs!) with small writing/art activities, mini-panels and workshops on Saturday, concluding with a cookout dinner and campfire with s'mores. Sunday will be some final wrap-up activities, and probably a lot of sniffling!
The final cost for the weekend will be $30. Sleeping space for those of you who opt for one of the 20 spots at the location is included in that. The money is going entirely towards location fees, a cookout-style dinner on Saturday, and s'mores around a lovely crackling fire, also Saturday.
For those of you opting for a hotel, your closest and best bets are the Days Inn Manassas, Super 8 Manassas, and Best Western Manassas. All are 10 minutes’ drive or less away. We’re around 20 minutes from Dulles Airport and the Vienna Metro station, and can arrange carpooling from those spots to the retreat. We’re also within the Uber coverage area. And it’s a short trip over to historic Clifton, which is THE cutest. Ice cream, anyone?
If you have any questions, you can contact me here, on Twitter, or by email at [email protected]. We also have a Facebook event!
Register here! Spots are limited!
We still have plenty of spots at the retreat center!

Registration opens tomorrow!
Y'all know about the location some already, so I'll skip that pitch. The location opens up at 5PM Friday and we close up at 1PM Sunday afternoon. We're looking at doing some getting-to-know-you time on Friday evening (mad libs!) with small writing/art activities, mini-panels and workshops on Saturday, concluding with a cookout dinner and campfire with s'mores. Sunday will be some final wrap-up activities, and probably a lot of sniffling!

Looking forward to seeing as many of you as can make it!
Official signups coming in the next few days!
First chance will go to the people who participated in the initial interest poll. For now, you can follow us on Facebook and Twitter!
hey, i was wondering if there's been any more talk about camp baker street? i don't think i found out about it close enough to take part in the survey so i'm wondering about dates and everything!
There IS! We are ALL SET for August 5-7, 2016! Signups to come imminently when I get a cute flyer together, which should be VERY quickly now that I am Freed of this semester. (Do remember, this is not an official Gridlock thing and is being organized by me. Just me.)
There’s going to be a small cost ($15-25) to cover things like food and toilet paper and bills and stuff, but because of the deal I have with the location’s owner it’ll be pretty minimal. We can host around 15-20 in the location itself, kicking it sleepover-style (bed priority is going to anyone with a disability that would make a sleeping bag setup not good), and there are hotels very nearby. If it’s nice we can even have an ACTUAL TENT. Welcome to summer camp, y’all.
We’re around 20 minutes from Dulles Airport and the Vienna Metro stop, and can arrange carpooling from those spots to the retreat. We’re also within the Uber coverage area. And it’s a short trip over to historic Clifton, which is THE cutest. I’m trying not to blast the address all over the internet just yet, but for your travel planning purposes, plug in the address of Twin Lakes Golf Course, which is right across the street at 6201 Union Mill Road, Clifton, VA, 20124.
