Updated my Charlie redesign!
She's not completely done because I'm going to probably doodle alternative outfits for her and work on her demon form. But I'm very happy with how she looks for her day to day wear! I think lighter colors just suit her much better than eye bleed red. She's like a little sunset or a peach.
I literally forgot I had a tumblr, but then I rewatched season 2 of Hazbin Hotel and it made me remember.
I return to the critical community bearing the gift of more refined redesigns of the Hazbin Cast! Mainly because I've been looking at my previous ones and kind of hating a lot of them. Especially my Vaggie, I have no idea how I thought she looked good. So I thought what better than to start with the redesign that I felt needed the most help? She looks much better this go around than my first attempt.
I really like the idea of a casual outfit and an actual staff outfit because the Hotel needs something that's kind of like a uniform, and Vaggie deserves more than one outfit that's just her work clothes. And I think muted tones work a lot better for what I was going for than my initial use of very saturated colors. I might add more scalloped fringe to her dress hem because looking at it now I really like it, and make it larger so it's less itty bitty tiny detailing.
Itty bitty Hazbin rant. The second I saw this in the show I had to just stop watching temporarily to process it.
What is this? What is she wearing??
This sickens me. It's some sort of visceral reaction, I think. This is a horrible design choice! Just objectively, right?! It looks like she's wearing a skirt over top of pants! Is that supposed to be an undershirt?? Is it a skirt???
And after doing some looking, apparently she was always supposed to wear pants:

It looks like she's wearing a dress with a blaze over top - why is she wearing pants under a dress?? If she wasn't supposed to be in a dress, then it shouldn't go over her hips like this. I'm pretty sure everyone thought she was in a dress with a sweetheart neckline and mini pencil skirt cut just based off of the few glimpses we got in the pilot.
Also, her feet are no longer pointy in the official show.
For some reason this bothers me so much more than every other design in the show, which is kind of funny imo.
I found more unfinished things! These are all about Helluva rewrites.
This was a family photo style sketch of Andrealphus and Stella I was going to finish for my rewrite of the two. Then I decided I wanted to merge Stella and Andrealphus into a single character by making Stella Andrealphus. This was a sketch from when I was trying to figure out colors for her with that in mind:
Really not a fan of the colors I was working with here for her tbh, I might go back and try to alter her if I ever feel tempted.
This was a random doodle of Verosika I did, because I'm fine with ehr design, I just don't like her clothes.
I found some drafts and such for some of my Hellaverse things!
First up, I found several of the full redesigns I never posted!
Alastor, who's design I absolutely adore. I posted some drawings of him, but not the full redesign I did.
Husk's design, which is my absolute favorite second to Alastor!

And finally my redesign of Emily and Charlie. This was a sketch I wanted to color digitally, but I never ended up finishing it beyond this point.

Mastermind
If I had to pick an episode I disliked the most (so far), Mastermind would win. I feel like it's just a culmination of things about the show that I dislike. This episode is just ughhh. It feels like a mental chore to sit through.
The episode in the very first minute and ten seconds, the literal first minute and ten seconds, made me think the plot would be Stolas on trial.
That's the biggest fuck up in my personal opinion. The 'case' against Blitz is utter bullshit, but the fact that Stolas has broken the law can be proven! He should be on trial for giving his grimoire to imps and giving lower class demons illegal access to the human realm!
If Andrealphus' plan is to get Stolas in trouble, then make a case against Stolas. He looks horribly bad in this situation! He broke the law by giving Blitz the book, which Stella and Blitz can attest to. And he had an affair, blatantly, which would certainly add to a poor view of his character in the eyes of the others.
If I were to try and work this into my rewrite, wherein Stolas is a villain, this episode would be his comeuppance. This would be an entire episode where he's railroaded by consequences and truth. Another thing I would rewrite, is Andrealphus. I would literally just merge Stella and Andrealphus. Stella is Andrealphus, meaning she's a Marquis, and has a position of power and ability to make such claims. Plus, it keeps Andrealphus from stealing her spotlight. Vasago is pointless, so he shuts tf up and doesn't interject the entire episode.
And Stolas would get what he deserves in the end!
He loses his powers and his status (temporarily, but still)
He loses his daughter
He hears Blitz's point of view about the deal, and how Blitz truly feels about him
Imagine this.
At the end of the episode after the trial, he asks Blitz if he can stay with him. And Blitz finally gets to tell this fucker NO. No, you can't stay with me, because I don't want to interact with you now that I don't have to! You don't have the power to punish me if I tell you no! And Stolas is left on in the street, covered in garbage and filth from imps who hate him, trying to call Octavia, but she doesn't answer.

So, um... I have some conflicting feelings pertaining to your hate for Stolas, I honestly didn't know he was a terrible person until I read you're anti-stolas posts.
My question is WHAT made him a terrible person, cuz as much as I see him as the victim, I can't help but be morbidly curious as to why he's such a terrible person.
Just so you know, I only heard he was terrible through the grapevine, but I want to hear your thoughts.
Of course! Personally, I think Stolas is specifically a terrible person because of how he's been written to never takes accountability. The narrative bends over backwards to make it so Blitz is the one who needs to make amends and is in the wrong, but does very little for Stolas.
Stolas started a quid-pro-quo 'relationship' with Blitz, asking sexual favors and encounters in exchange for the book, which Blitz needs for his business. He constantly makes sexual, degrading, and unwanted remarks towards Blitz (such as calling him Blitzy in Harvest Moon, which Blitz has made clear he doesn't like), but then later on claims that Blitz was the one always making things about sex. He calls imps little and small and then is confused as to why Blitz feels like he's being degraded and disrespected. He harasses Blitz constantly with sexual advances, which is especially noticeable in the Loo Loo Land, which actually brings up my next point that makes Stolas terrible.
He constantly apologizes and swears to do better and claims he wants change, but falls back into the exact same behavior that was the issue to begin with. For example, he promises he'll make time for Octavia in Loo Loo Land, but in Seeing Stars does the exact same thing. And then he spends the entire episode with Blitz doing the tv show side plot, completely forgetting about her in favor of trying to get his rocks off. Loona has to go find Octavia and convince her to give Stolas a chance.
Personally, the fact that he's written to dodge accountability and is a perpetual victim of his own consequences is what I think makes him so terrible. He's whiny as well, which just grates on my nerves. That isn't to say that Blitz is some sort of saint, but I just feel as if Stolas seems to think he has done nothing wrong, which has definitely has. I hope this was coherent and logical lol!

Now, Sinmas was just... Something.
Alright, now for some reason Blitz and the others hesitate to kill their target? So all of the sudden because it's gay it's an issue, when they did the exact same job in the first episode with no qualms? This show is so obnoxious.
I also hate how spoiled Stolas is, because it's not really funny. I think if I didn't hate him so much, i'd actually find some of his antics humorous, but... uh, nope. I just hate his guts. I hate how he's just some woobie at this point. The narrative is acting like he's done all these things to earn all the sympathy in the world, but he hasn't. Am I supposed to like him because of Mastermind? Well, that's not happening.
Millie being pregnant is fine, I don't care. At all. Which is just more proof of how little character she has to the point that I was just meh to the reveal. Now, the reaction to this development is more interesting than the actual plot point - Why in the name of god do people think it's SALLIE'S??? It makes my brain melt out of my ears just thinking about it.
Loona's hellhound form is just a wolf with a furry face and I hate it. She should've looked actually cool, but that's more of a subjective opinion rather than an actual criticism.
Now, the main point I want to rant about: Stella and Octavia.
First off. The way Octavia is treated as some sort of villain or in the wrong for cutting Stolas out of her life after he repeatedly hurt and chose Blitzo after her, her after the many chances she gave him to do better is just terrible. She's completely within her rights to cut him out, speaking from someone with similar experience with cutting out terrible family. Stolas is in the wrong, no matter how much the narrative tries to say otherwise or tries to act like he's taking responsibility. Her rant at Stolas is one hundred percent correct, she was absolutely in the right, Stolas is a selfish asshole and he chose Blitzo over her. She doesn't need to listen to him, she doesn't owe him anything. And I know the narrative is going to make her 'come around' like Blitzo said, but I really wish she wouldn't.
Second. Stella, sweet, poor Stella god why have they done this to you? She's so one dimensional and has no relationship with Octavia. Are Viv and the crew just allergic to Stella having any potential redeeming qualities? I think if she genuinely cared about Octavia and was irritated by Andrealphus taking her divorce and using it to further his agenda, then that would instantly give her the tiniest bit of depth. But we can't have good things in the Hellaverse.
In my rewrite, Stella's scorned and just wants to take her daughter and be happy and hates Stolas and her brother in equal measure. Enjoy a drawing I did of my rewrite versions.

Helluva Rewrite: Loona
Finally figured out what I want her to look like! Okay, so story wise, a few things - She's 17 now, and has only been with Blitzo since the start of his business. She's still standoffish and wary of him because, duh, he's basically a stranger. However, she's no longer abusive to him or the others at IMP. She's rude and snippy and, to quote Moxxie "A meth addicted homeless woman you let man the phone" but she's also an edgy teenager. I like the idea that the white on her is just skin and the grey is fur, which led to the others in the pound saying she had hell mange or something. She was just bullied constantly at the pound, which has led to her rough and rude attitude. She's mean to Moxxie the most because he gives the best reactions and where she grew up, you had to be on top or someone else would be mean to you. She very much respects Millie, as she doesn't want to get her ass kicked. And she's... conflicted with Blitz. But not ungrateful. In my rewrite, keeping a bit with Hellaverse lore, so hellhounds are still pets and guards for higher ranked demons. Wearing clothes isn't really necessary for them, but the ones that wear clothes are seen as more 'high class' in a sense.
