For Your Consideration: Hidden Spheres

I’m currently listening to the Waiting EP from Hidden Spheres, an excellent artist who is proving to be a strong favourite of mine.

The EP opens with title track waiting, a summery house track which oozes with soul and chilled out groove, making it perfect for down tempo dancefloor moments. The second track keeps things mellow without losing momentum, Upsn Down has bumping groove which is driven by a pumping kick and chattering percussive elements. Accompanying vocal adlibs give the track an effortless swagger, making listeners just want to get up and move. Be a Man continues the mellow sound of the EP and as usual a 4x4 rhythm allows for gentle dancefloor capabilities without taking listeners into realms of high energy. The final track of the EP is the most energetic. It carefully builds, teasing from the start with chopped vocals before exploding into bursts of pure joyful energy - strong dancefloor feel!

Fantastic set of four tracks from upcoming cassette LP by Church affiliate Aquarium. As the name suggests title track Rainforest welcomes us into a humid jungle garden where the senses are splashed and soaked by lush dense greenery. Ocean Breeze picks up the energy slightly, clinking cowbells and chimes accompany a steady drum beat while sonic synthesizers send off signal flares in the background. The third track Eternal Blue is a crunchy house piece with soft organ pads, a wiggling bass-line and flickering cymbals and drum rim shots. Soft acoustic guitar warms the final track, carried gently by a four to the floor kick; the two timbres making for a mellow closer to this side of the cassette. Along with these the LP appears to feature tracks produced under the alias 外神田deepspace; a name which eludes to the possibility of a vapour wave influence.

The cassette is available for pre-order and will be releasing June 27 via Coastal Haze.
