In house class tonight, I didn’t expect to hear a song that has meant so much to me in my younger years: DJ Koze’s remix of Herbert’s “It’s Only”. The song is a wistful plea of deep electronica with soft but stirring vocals and a haunting bassline made to hurt in the best of ways. Today’s focus was less about hitting the beat and more about emotionally connecting and flowing with the music - letting our bodies interpret the most subtle details of the song. We were encouraged to melt into the floor and weave in and out of our fellow classmates. It was... sensual. Almost spiritual. Entirely cathartic.
