ok incredibly small breakdown on bernard in batman #3 bc im a fan of the two pages he appeared in & i think its an excellent set-up to making him stand out more in the future if done right. Spoilers obviously but ill put it under the cut jic
first and foremost he is acting the way ive wanted which is actually just. Reacting. to Anything. the way a person should. he is instantly on guard and doesn't waste a second getting to his point.
it's important to remember that he is a victim of familial abuse. whether he's trying to imply batman related things here or just talking plainly, he has the right experience to show concern & take up a defensive stance in this situation.
a very good development moment is him walking bruce to the lobby. separating him. ive seen complaints abt how it feels unfair to treat bruce like the enemy but if you're concerned that someone is harming a loved one, directly or indirectly, a "concerned visit" will mean nothing
since his reintroduction bernard has been more of a prop in the background of tim's story. bad things happen to him off page which pushes tim to do the cool stuff on page. he has not been a Person in a story. which is why this defensive behavior should be seen as progress.
WE know bruce isnt the enemy. WE know he genuinely worries about tim. bernard doesnt know this. and it would be bad writing if he didn't get angry at the situation & bruce's behavior. because without context it is at best negligent and at worst actively harmful.
holding off on getting into the aspect of how much he knows abt tim & the vigilante life, there's no definitive proof of a retcon here but i dont think it matters in regards to "my boyfriend's adoptive father is behaving shitty & its cause for concern regarding a bad injury"
thrilled he's here, thrilled he's got a voice of his own and is using it, thrilled he's acting the role of a civilian partner who's going to question and scrutinize everything that causes concern. fraction said he had plans for tim so here's hoping we get more on ber thru it.
nonvegan leftists live on another planet where lentils are too expensive and hard to find but 100% free-range, grass-fed beef and authentic leather is perfectly cheap and accessible to the average person
like do they not hear how they sound lol
One of the worst propensities of the left is to frame our own selfish decisions in the language of social justice. Someone who absolutely does have access to plant-based foods will advocate against veganism on the basis that not everyone does.
And you know that’s what they’re doing when they frame it in the third person, well some people can’t afford fruit and veg. Some people live in food deserts. Some people got their hundred year old leather jacket from their grandma. Not me, but some people. And my response is always, well okay, but I’m not talking to the whole of society am I? I’m talking to you. Other people not having access to chickpeas, lentils, beans and rice is not why you are ordering sushi on Uber eats, is it?
At least right wingers tend to be honest about it and just say that they don’t care, or that god said it’s okay to eat animals so it’s totally fine. It’s this transparent attempt to pretend they’re eating bacon cheeseburgers on behalf of indigenous communities that I just cannot take seriously.
