he laughs at the girl, watching as fear glossed over her eyes, despite the act she putting on. “ why didn’t you shoot first then? “ he asks, eyebrow raised in question, almost like he was taunting her. he had been like her before, scared but not weak enough to show it. he gave her props, but that wasn’t going to get her anywhere in this situation.
he takes several steps back, pushing the barrel forward again and laying it down beside his belongings. he had spent days searching for a place to stay, if just for a few hours, she was crazy to think he would just give it up to her. he proceeded to walk over to the shower, despite the lack of curtain and cleanliness, it was working. he turned on the faucet, letting the water fall down.
he turns to her suddenly, pulling his shirt over his head. “ i’m not sure about you, but, “ he glances at the shower and back at her, “unless you plan on joining, you’re going to be here a while. “ her choice, he thinks. but either way, he wasn’t going to let up, no matter how hard she tried. “ don’t think you’re the only one who gets to enjoy nice things, beautiful. “
The smirk on her face dropped with his last word, being replaced by a sickeningly sweet smile, one used for all the men in her life that had called her beautiful as a means to belittle her before. Her father had taught her a lot more than just how to hold a gun and how to hide from walkers, and whoever this man presumed himself to be was soon going to learn that. “Okay. Alright.” She said pleasantly, the soft smile on her face not betraying any of the rage she felt inside. “I conceded. Take your shower, and you know what? You have a good day.” She was laying it on thick, she knew that for sure, but as she backed out of the room she couldn’t resist giving him a sarcastic curtsey.
And then she was running. Motherfucker thought he could take the one thing, the one. fucking. thing. she made for herself in this world. And on top of that, the goddamn condescension. Candice had never been good at hiding her emotions before the apocalypse but now? Well now she was a fucking pro.
She skidded to a stop in front of the generator that was humming happily in the back of the house. She had scavenged the parts to fix it up, trial and error. And she knew just the right part to take out and slip into her back pocket to turn the damn thing off.
