#type to say 'I know a place' and then drag you up a mountain and scrambling up a creek to swim in a pool at the base of a waterfall #at least a mile away from any other people. anyway. this was lovely. I'm gonna go back at some point.#I don't wanna go to work tomorrow I want to go back here and wander further up the creek. I would have gone higher today but #I'd already been on a couple of other trails and was exhausted. :( maybe take two on a weekend coming up...

every time I have to job-hunt I immediately start longing for a time (which may have never existed) when a person could just wander into a place, see that something needs doing, and be like, "hey, I'll fix that up for you"/"I'll lend you a hand if you'll just pay me a little" and they work for a bit (a few hours, days, maybe months) and then move on their way (maybe this just happened in movies). no resume. no cover letter. no references. no required years of experience in a very specific field. no application questions that are weirdly personal and have nothing to do with the job. simplicity.

This is a perfect time to read the brilliant and unforgettable graphic novel(s) Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, about growing up in Iran during and after the Iranian Revolution, and the rise of the oppressive theocracy that persists to this day.

Both graphic novels are available free online (Persepolis vol. 1, Persepolis vol. 2)

It also was adapted to a wonderful film (co-directed and co-written by the author) which is available to watch for free on Sundance Now (sign up for the free trial)
