Hello!
Today I received two suspicious comments on my post.
I know about the commission scam, and the other comment is obviously a scam as well. But when I checked their blogs to confirm that they were scam accounts, I found out that they had reblogs from a variety of different art blogs.
(Screenshot from the second comment)
The top blog has reblogs from today (April 17, 2026) and from the same time (5:31 AM). The bottom blog has reblogs from January 26, 2026, and posted their reblogs in a short timeframe (the latest being 8:51 PM).
Is this an evolution of these two scams? Are scammers utilizing reblogs to make their accounts look legitimate? I wanted to share this just in case.
Thanks for your help!
Hi there!
Scammers reblogging posts is- interestingly enough, not a new thing.
There are donation scammers for instance who will make their first post a dummy post saying something as simple as 'hello' with no tags, then reblog a bunch of posts. Then after a few days they will edit that 'hello' post (given nobody will have interacted with it) and make it into a long winded story with stolen pictures and a script (just throwing off one of the well known ones off the top of my head here) 'i'm <fake name> from <place> and I only need $200 for my humalog injections' See that big ol 'Untitled?' That's a big give way. It's also the fact that it's a new account made within the last few days/week that you have to pay attention to, and the blog not having an avatar, header image/background, or description. If all they have is 4-6 reblogs and no posts of their own and they're leaving comments like that?
That still 100% makes them a scammer. They're just trying to appear like a 'normal/regular' tumblr user and failing lol.
You can find more on the 'art commission' scam and 'i reported your account' scams (that's the 'i have something important to tell you about your account' one btw!) in my index located in my pinned post and below, or you can view them in the hyperlinks above. :)
