note: can you tell i’ve never really decorated for christmas? anyway here’s soft boyfriend jungsu for the soul.
It was your first Christmas in this apartment. The very apartment that you happened to share with your dear boyfriend. The two of you had spent a few Christmasses together, i visiting one another’s family, but this was your first Christmas together. The first Christmas you don’t have to go home eventually, because this is your home.
That’s why Jungsu insisted on decorating the small apartment together. When you were both home, he wanted to drag out the boxes of decor you’d gotten, wear your matching Christmas pajamas, and decorate together. You know, all of the cliches.
So now, here you are, both surrounded by boxes upon boxes of decorations and a very daunting tree. The tree was much taller than the previous mini-tree that used to be on your desk back home. So, naturally, of course you and Jungsu had to make a trip to buy ornaments to go on it. And in turn, you ended up with enough decorations to last you a lifetime.
“So,” Jungsu wraps his arms around you from behind. “Where should we start?”
The two of you stare at the boxes in front of you before making the decision to each start on different sides and meet in the middle. First, you’d decorate the walls and shelving with garland and gorgeous lights weaving about. Jungsu carefully handled the breakables; he strategically placed slowglobes and various fragile knick-knacks on shelf space and tabletops throughout the apartment. He was a little faster with his decorating than you, admittedly, and before you knew it, he had met you on your side to help you.
“Woah, this looks so pretty.” The two of you stood in the hallway, looking over your now-finished space. All that was left to put up was the tree, and you’d both decided you’d take a break before tackling that. For now, you were standing in each other’s embrace, admiring the work you’d done making a cozy living space for the winter season. “Oh! Look up!”
You trailed your eyes up Jungsu’s figure to his face, then up to where his eyes were trained. When did you get a mistletoe? The total cliche almost made you laugh out loud. But Jungsu looked at you with an admirable innocence in his eyes and a bright smile, so you couldn’t resist. Your arms draped over his shoulders, standing on the tips of your toes to press a chaste kiss to his lips. He smiled against your lips, his own arms wrapping around you so tightly that you were pressed flush against his body. You almost giggle at the realization that you’re actually kissing your boyfriend under a mistletoe that he must have snuck in with your decorations. Sneaky.
“Should we put up the tree now?” The kiss was cut short as you pulled away from his lips. You were still tightly entwined in his hold, though.
Jungsu hummed. “Only if we put the tree topper on together.”
“Why together? You’re taller, so I think you should do it.”
He stubbornly shook his head, pursing his lips in a cute pout. “I want to do it together. It’s our first Christmas.”
You let out a sigh. “I can’t reach. Don’t want to get a step ladder just to put the star on, baby.”
“I can pick you up! I’m strong, honey. I can pick you up and we can put it on together. Please. We can make it a tradition.” He looks at you with the absolute cutest puppy dog eyes, and you can really see how much it means to him that you do this together. So, you agree.
Letting out a little laugh, you finally nod. “You’re ridiculous. Sure, we can put it up together. But we should start now because it’s getting late. If we don’t start now we won’t have time for cookies and hot cocoa after!”

You debated on whether you should knock or simply text Junhan that you were standing outside of his dorm room. Earlier, you told him that you’d come over once you finished studying, so he knew you were coming eventually. However, you didn’t know it would be this much later before the material stuck in your head. Luckily it was a Friday night, so it didn’t really matter how late you stay, but you couldn’t help but feel sorry for keeping him waiting so long.
Before you knew it, the door swung open in front of you. The sudden motion startled you, nearly making you trip over your own feet. Gaon stifled a laugh, resulting in an unpretty snorting sound. You steadied yourself and shot him a playful glare before pushing past him into the room. Over the past few weeks, you managed to get close to Hyeongjun’s friends as well.
“Hyeongjun,” Gaon called out, clicking the door shut. “Your new favorite person is here. I still can’t believe you stole that title from me.”
“Was it ever your title?”
Hyeongjun emerging from around the corner was what stopped Gaon from continuing to bicker with you. You immediately perked up seeing your boyfriend, which made Gaon gag. He attempted to swat your hands away from hugging Hyeongjun, but ended up having his hand squished between the two of you. He pulled it away quickly, as if you’d burned him.
With one last squeeze, your boyfriend reluctantly pulled away from the hug. He looks at his friend, who had plastered a look of fake disgust on his face, and smiles. “I thought you had plans with your own girlfriend?” And with that, Gaon was rushing out of the door shouting about some movie they were meant to watch together.
Which leaves you and Junhan alone. Together.
You’d been alone together before. Many times, actually. It should get easier, and each time it does, in its own way, but for a few moments you still find yourself awkwardly rocking back and forth on the balls of your feet. Your hands were clasped together and your gaze was cast upon the floor.
“So,” you both started. A short giggle bubbles up in your throat, and you gesture for him to continue what he was going to say.
“I—um, I didn’t really have any plans…. I thought we could just watch some videos on my laptop or something.” Nodding, you took his hand and pulled him in the direction of his bed. There was limited seating in the dorm room, and you found that it was easier to sit on his bed rather than one in his desk chair and the other on the floor, craning their neck to be involved in whatever you were doing. It was much more comfortable this way.
And there’s something so comforting about being here with him. The bed feels like such an intimate place, surrounded by pieces of him and his scent, and the lack of space on the twin-sized bed pushed the two of you close together. You crawled up, picked up one of his many bunny plushies, and made yourself at home closest to the wall. Hyeongjun climbed up after you, laptop in hand with a YouTube video loading on screen.
However, a couple of minutes into the video and you found yourself not paying attention anymore. Instead, all of your focus was shifted to watching Hyeongjun’s face. How his eyes light up and cheeks puff when he laughs at whatever is on the screen, how he licks his lips to wet them—the light from the screen catching on his now-glossy lips.
“Can I have a kiss?” You blurted out.
Without any hesitation, Hyeongjun pressed his lips to yours. The kiss was short, more of a peck, but it lit your body on fire immediately. Another, you whispered, one more. He fulfilled your requests, giving you kiss after kiss, giggling between each one. The next kiss you asked for shifted the mood.
He paused the video completely, turning his body to face you. “Should I put this away? You don’t seem to be watching it, hm. You’re a little busy asking for kisses.” The plushie in your hand quickly turned into a weapon, landing a soft smack to his face to distract him from your warm face. He laughed and moved to put his laptop away, playfully tossing more plushies at you.
Your giggles were cut short soon after. He’d climbed back into his spot beside you, now looking at you with a more serious expression on his face. His eyes flitted across your face, studying each feature, before focusing on your lips. Lips that he’d kissed many times, but nothing more than a quick peck. Hyeongjun slowly raised his hand to cup your face. It felt like time was ticking at half speed when he started to lean in. Closer, closer, until his lips pressed against yours again. Neither of you moved. You just had your lips pressed together for a moment before he parted his mouth. As an automatic reaction, you did as well, finally fluttering your eyes shut. Leaning forward into the kiss, your lips slotted together. And again, for just a moment, the two of you stayed still with your lips locked together. There was no need to rush, you just wanted to enjoy the moment.
Hyeongjun was the first to tilt his head, pressing deeper into the kiss. His lips moved softly against yours, urging you to do the same. It was awkward, a little uncoordinated, but you both soon found a rhythm that suited you and settled into it. It was soft, slow, and sweet. The hand that cupped your jaw moved to cradle the back of your head, and you nervously reached your arms up to drape over his shoulders. It stayed like that for a while. Both of you were leaning in, bodies awkwardly twisted, enjoying each other’s presence like this. When you feel him pulling away, you find yourself chasing after his lips.
This makes him smile. “Can we get a little more comfortable?” He asks. “My back is killing me like this.” His hand is still cradling the back of your head, now subconsciously massaging it with the tips of his fingers, making you fall deeper into his touch. You dumbly nodded, still a little dazed from the kiss. He guided you to lay down, due to the limited space, with your head on his pillow and laid beside you himself.
This new closeness felt much more intimate, despite having cuddled in this exact position before. He scoots forward, connecting your lips once again and picking the kiss up where you left off. Only this time, a little more rushed. Hyeongjun liked the rush he gets when you’re here like this, lips connected, sharing each other’s breath, his warm cheeks against your own. He quickly finds himself lost in the kiss, and you do too; hands resting on his shoulders, head tilted up, meeting him in the middle. One of his hands dug into the mattress beside you, holding himself up as he now hovers over you. You didn’t expect Hyeongjun to kiss like this, leaving you breathless and lightheaded in the best way possible.
To catch your breath for a moment, you pulled back from the kiss. Hyeongjun leaned down, now resting on his elbow, freeing up his hand. He nuzzled his face into your neck. It was a little ticklish, of course, because you could feel his heavy breath fanning across your skin. But he didn’t want to move—he could smell your perfume, and the way it mixed so well with the his scent on his sheets, he felt it was something he couldn’t get tired of.
His fingers danced across the skin of your hip, made easy by the way his hoodie bunched up when you laid down. The same hoodie you were wearing a couple of weeks ago when you were outed for being in a relationship. The thought made him smile. He lightly scratched your skin, tickling you, and nuzzled deeper into your neck. Subconsciously, he pressed a kiss there. One, two, three, losing count, because all he can focus on is your giggles. Playfully, he grazed his teeth across your skin, causing you to let out a gasp between your laughter. He did this a few more times before pressing a final kiss to your lips. Both of you having finally caught your breath, you started to calm down.
Hyeongjun finally laid down next to you. He pulled you to lay chest to chest with him, scooting closer to the wall so he wouldn’t fall. The two of you rested your heads on the same pillow, sharing a comfortable gaze and moment of silence. His nails still lightly scratched your skin as he rubbed soothing shapes where his hands rest, and yours play with the fabric of his shirt.
It was comfortable laying here like this, with him, in silence. It wasn’t awkward. Being this close to him allows you to take in every inch of his beauty, from the mole next to his eye to his bunny-like teeth peeking from behind his lips. And knowing he feels comfortable enough to have you in his safe space like this is more than enough. You could lay here like this forever if you were allowed.
Your moment was cut short by the sound of the jiggling door knob to his room, quickly followed by Gaon’s voice. Hyeongjun slowly sat up, staring blankly at his roommate who had just walked in, left hand tightly gripping his girlfriend’s.
“I thought you weren’t coming back tonight?” It was phrased more like a question rather than a statement.
Scoffing, Gaon started pulling the bedding off of his bed, seemingly looking for something. “I forgot to get my phone charger. Why? Am I interrupting something?” You sat up too, pulling the bottom of the hoodie back in place. Seeing your friend, you waved politely, then leaned on Hyeongjun’s shoulder.
“I think we are,” your friend has an evil grin on her face. “Didn’t you see? Their faces are flushed and, oh, I’m pretty sure I saw little bite marks on her neck! We should go, Gaon.”
Luckily, Gaon found his phone charger already. He turned to look at the two of you, made a face of disgust, and fake gagged. “Eww, gross. Whatever you do, don’t do anything in my bed. Nasties.” He barely had time to react to the two plushies being launched in his direction—one from you and one from your boyfriend, who was as red as you felt. Your two friends laughed, throwing them back at you before leaving in a hurry. Not before your friend shot you a wink and pointed at your neck, giving you a thumbs up.
With the door closed and locked again, you threw yourself down on the pillow again. Letting out an embarrassed squeal, you looked at Hyeongjun. “Please! That was so embarrassing. Did you really leave bite marks?” The way he licked his lips and tried to keep himself from laughing told you everything. “Now they’re going to think we’re doing things we aren’t!”
“It’s a normal thing people in relationships do.”
You squealed again, hands shooting up to cover your face. “But not us! We haven’t…we aren’t…. What if they tell everyone?”
He peeled your hands away from your face, moving your fingers one by one. Planting a kiss on your lips, he finally let out a small laugh. “They won’t tell anyone. Besides,” he made eye contact with you. “It’s not a hickey. They’ll be gone by tomorrow.”
Hyeongjun slept in Gaon’s bed that night after you got told that your own bed was occupied in your dorm. All of his plushies were lined up to create a barrier so he couldn’t see you, because you were still embarrassed, which he found endearing. Neither of you slept very well that night.
