It came to my attention there is a new closed species that looks exactly like Cantins. I believe they're called Faenions. I've unfortunately become used to copies. I probably won't be reaching out, I know that will only do me emotional harm and is not likely to change any minds. Too many are already sold and circulating to stop such a thing at this point. I thought for a moment that it could be partially my fault things have gone this far, that if I was more active in the art community still I could have stopped it from happening, but there's no use in that type of speculation. What's done is done, and I unfortunately have no power here as is usually the case when this happens.
Other people making money off of my character design is something I have experience with and in recent years I've begun to cope better with. I take solace in the fact I created Cantins as something very dear to my heart, a form of gender expression, my own religious beliefs, my love of raising insects, and as a way to be close to loved ones who have passed.
I still encourage others to create Cantins, but whether other people participate in making their own or not, they will always be near to my heart and mean more to me than any CS-of-the-day can possibly hope to stir in anyone else.
Thank you for reading, and have a good day <3
Hey it's been a while since I uploaded anything here. I've been taking an extended break from posting anthro focused art, but I'd like to come back to it. Cantins are as important to me as ever. I'm also going to change the blog name and links, I don't want to continue to confuse people with the species name into thinking it's "dog related" beyond just one type of them having a longer snout haha
I've been focusing on Cantins in a fantasy setting. A lot about them is still the same; They still have four main types, live around the same creatures, have similar lifestyles, but now their appearance is slightly more whimsical (like their old 2011 appearance!) and they can use magic hehe ^_^ I'll share art of them when I get around to it. The hottest months of the year are here and I can't make any promises that I'll finish much of any art so long as temps are high. Take care
Videl
Thought i'd share this- Old art from 2015 or so of a feathertail dragon, creatures that live in the cantin world. It was apparently done for an art class
One of the things I wanted to write about wrt Nieve was her relationship with her chronically ill imaga that being the dynamic between a child and a parent who is unable to care for her. Old thread from March 2020.
"memories of her" -she sits up, when she can, in an old chair next to the tree outside, and she does not move from that spot for hours on end, sometimes from when the sun comes up to when it sets. -she speaks some days but her gaze is clouded and distant, hidden somewhere deep beyond those hills before her. she would stay there in the direst of weather if allowed. in her moments of awareness she breathes deep like she will never taste fresh air again, and speaks softly. -the rest of her time is spent in bed under a quilt. her window at the bedside stays open at all times for she believes she would be smothered if it ever closed. she can see her tree through that window. -one would think her neck would be permanently affixed in the position, how long she stares out the window at her tree and watches the leaves sway. at night what presence remains is for her partner and her young daughter, and the clouds in her vision dissipate. -partner brings the book, she calls for nieve, but her daughter stands hesitant at the doorframe. clinging the wood, unsteady, the daughters eyes stay affixed on her mother. they read books at night. occasionally, mother goes away. -she will stop, seize as though something has clenched down on her. if she stays as still as possible perhaps she will live. and then she slips away, muttering and shaking. nieve cant see what it is that frightens her and that is what she fears; that it will prey upon her too.
Cantins have been special to me a long time. Over ten years. They did have an established canon world, one that is connected to other worlds of mine that I’m not as eager to share, but... I have thought for a while that I want to make Cantins live in a more fantastical world, with magic and that sort of thing 💞 When I am up for it, I will be revamping this entire blog to reflect that. I will archive the old world info somewhere just in case, and it will always be their true home world in my heart and mind, but I want to lean into fantasy.
When a hurl fruit is coughed up, does it come back whole or just like normal puke?
Hurlfruit: A small fruit consumed whole by Canistinea that induces ecstasy-like effects as the skin and outer layers of the fruit are digested, but has an emetic effect after the high has died down. It is most similar in size to a kumquat, has the texture of a peach, but is blue in color. The fruit’s effects do not occur once the layers containing the substance are directly exposed to oxygen, which is why pieces cannot be cut off and eaten singularly.
The hurlfruit is coughed up as the stringy, fibrous center of the fruit and the pit, along with some other stomach contents.

Yes!
If most cantins do not have gender, does that mean they all gay?
...Yes!
hi! i was wondering if its possible to have a cantin exist in other universes/places with non cantin species, or do they only exist in a cantin society? thanks so much and have a great day! ^_^
They can totally exist in other universes! Feel free to use cantins in a “non-canon” environment how you wish!
is their calendar system similar to ours? (four seasons, 12 months, 7 days a week, etc.)
Previously the year was considerably short, but it’s been revised since then.
The Cantin calendar is 242 days, Four months (One for each season), and 24 hour days.
Winter~ Frostlag: 62 days
Spring~ Sprighat: 60
Summer~ Nearmonth: 62
Autumn~ Whispan: 58
Whats the Canistinea equivalent of those bright colored sweatpants with the word JUICY bedazzled on the ass
Since Cantins have backwings on rare occasion, what other rare traits are there if any?
Backwings may be rare, but if anything, common compared to some of these:
High lobe: When the earlobe wing is located above or higher upon the head than the primary earwing
Conjoined antenna: When the antenna are joined at the base, and appear as one antenna with two stems.
Tertiary wing set: A pair of wings will occur on the Cantin’s tail. These can potentially grow as large as backwings and have to be removed in that case.
Multiple wing “tails”: When a Cantin has more than one pair of “tails” (subject to terminology change) on one of their wing sets.
Other occurances such as:
• More than one set of antenna
• More than one set each of back/ear wings
• Extra digits
• Absence of primary earwing (Only lobes)
Are too scarce to be considered rare traits, and fall under anomalous mutations
Which characteristics does each culture value the most?
Dayflies- Beauty and performance. In a society with significantly less diversity (and challenges) than the others, Dayflies have become somewhat superficial. They idolize those with things like unique patterns, so long as they are not *too* unique, and those with apparent physical superiority to others, like those who have the right wing shape for gliding or taller cantins.
Loboflies- Free thought and confidence. They have a strong sense of culture and community, but welcome change and new challenges. Loboflies find that those who respectfully challenge their norms are the ones who shape their kind’s best future. Naturally, because of their stature, they may be subject to– for lack of better wording– belittlement from others, which is why confidence in one’s self the face of adversity is admired and encouraged.
Snowflies- Versatility and hardiness. Their way of life calls for every member of their community to have a purpose and problem solving abilities. Those who have many skills or are good at learning new ones are essential to them. Hardiness is a matter of survival, those who are not hardy tend to pull others down with them.
Nightflies- Sociability and cooperation. As the first to enter a modern society outside of the Great Forest, Nightflies think it essential to be as agreeable as possible. Keeping good relations requires aptitude for finding solutions, understanding the thinking of others, or having empathy. This also means being able to reel in one’s pride.
