A Letter To My Not So Happy Single Self
#00088
Dear You,
You hurt me years ago. You changed my life, and affected me in ways you will never know about. Because of you I don’t trust myself to make a relationship work. I run away from my problems rather than dealing with them. I am scared that someone could hurt me again as much as you hurt me.
But I don’t plan to let them. I have learned from your mistakes. I won’t repeat them. I will learn to deal with my issues and become a better person than you ever have been. Or ever will be. I have my own life now. You have yours. I have new family, new friends. I don’t need you anymore.
Despite all this, I’ll always love the memories of you before you hurt me.
Love, Me.
I wasn’t necessarily in that state of mind when I wrote that song. It’s a very reflective song. I mean, it’s about guilt, isn’t it? ‘Don’t you mind, don’t you mind’—of course they mind. Everything that I said, I did all those things. They’re not good things. It’s a song about guilt, and it’s a sad song, but it’s also one of my favorite songs.

Let’s skate barefoot through slightly sanded sidewalks, drink in alley ways and learn to surf half hungover squinting at the morning sun, dance in each others arms screaming our lungs out or slow and sweet in front of a fire place, Let’s get drunk on each others energy when we’re too broke to buy beer. Let’s never stop believing, Let’s listen to albums in the dark and close our eyes, Let’s never stop growing, Give me a boost over the fence and I’ll pull you up after me, Don’t kick me when I’m down but always push me in the pool. I can buy another phone, I would’ve ruined my shirt anyway. Tell everyone they’re beautiful not just me, the world needs that. Love them all and tell me what you love about everyone you’ve ever met. Leave me whenever you need to remember why you wanted to stay so badly, Let me leave you and when we come back, Let’s do it all again. Just always smile when you kiss me & always kiss me when you want to.
When it’s over I’ll be screaming for an encore (via asshatsncats)
Still, the longer I was around her, the more I could see the colours of her mind and the recesses of her heart. There was a beast in there. But there was also a girl who was afraid of being a beast, and who wondered if other people had beasts in their hearts too. There was strength, and there was also just the determination to look strong. She guarded herself like a secret.
