Temporary Unemployment

Kaho happily leaped onto the bed and snuggled with Sofie.  Shelby also got herself ready for sleep and sat down on the edge of the bed.  She gave Kaho a quick pet.

“Of course not.  Light as a feather,” Shelby said with a laugh.  “You squirming didn’t help, though.”

Sofie snorted and she grinned at Shelby. Her arms wrapped around Kaho and she pulled him between them. “I couldn’t help myself! I was giggling so hard!”

Shelby got up, turned out the lights, and then gingerly slipped into bed.  She adjusted her pillow, snuggled up next to Sofie and Kaho, and sighed happily.  Bed time was some of her favorite time.

Kaho was quite pleased with the snuggling, and he licked both girls to let them know it.

Runi raised one eyebrow and gave Sam an amused grin.  “Bad?  No way!  That’s not a bad thing.  I uh…I like your chest.  It’s really nice, and it suits you.”  Runi was blushing a bit thinking a little more than ‘nice’ was appropriate to describe Sam’s ample chest.

Sam’s face seemed to get even more red.”Nice…?” She stared at Runi and his reddening cheeks. “Well.. I’ve noticed you do like it..” she mumbled very quietly as she glanced away.

Runi offered a small, awkward laugh and also glanced away.

After a long moment of silence passed between them, Runi decided it was time to keep moving.  He hopped up and went for his clothes.

“We should probably get going.  We have a long trip back to Skyloft,” he said casually.  “Now that we know where this is, we can always come back for special trips.”

Shelby looked at Sofie’s ‘base’, realized what she meant, and let out an awkward laugh.  She was done playing the Blue Viper for now.  It was getting late.

“Alright, I’ll take you to your base, Burning Red,” Shelby said with a smile.  She hoisted Sofie up, cradling her in her arms, and carried her to the bedroom, where she unceremoniously plopped her down on the bed.

Kaho appeared in the doorway.  Apparently he was also ready for bed.

“Op!” Sofie rolled on the bed. “C’mere boy!” She tapped the bed for Kaho to jump in. “Haha, thanks. I hope I wasn’t too heavy” Sofie giggled and opened her bra under her t-shirt and swung it on the floor.

Runi laughed.  “No need to apologize.  I could have lifted you if…” he coughed.  “…your chest hadn’t suffocated me.  Your muscles aren’t the only big thing you have.”

Sam felt like chocking inside. Her face reddened again and she stared at him. “Um..” with a cough she opened her mouth. “I know… I am a big chested girl but.. that’s bad..”

“Ah…uh…yes well…” Shelby hadn’t thought that far in advance, and she was running out of ideas.  “The uh… intense comfortableness of the couch will keep you paralyzed.  You cannot escape.”  Shelby silently congratulated herself for that quick thinking.  It was dumb, but it was enough.

“Oh no!” Sofie giggled, it seemed she was all ok with her idea. “This is terrible! But I need to get to my base to restore my powers!” She giggled and pointed at their bed. She sure hadn’t thought through how it sounded like.

Runi held up his hands defensively.  “Okay, okay…” he said passively.  He sat silently next to Sam, letting her calm down on her own.  He knew that was probably best.

Sam laid there for a moment, before she sat up. “Sorry…” She began quietly. “I am heavy” She looked at him with a slight frown, but was more of a apologizing than mad frown.

Sofie’s dead weight was hardly a struggle for Shelby to drag around, but when she suddenly started getting hotter, just like earlier, that gave Shelby a bit of alarm.  “Not today,” Shelby said in a mockingly bold voice, twisting as she grabbed Sofie’s hands, flinging her gently onto the couch.  “Now you are in my trap.”  

“Hahaha!” Sofie laughed loudly as she was thrown to the couch. “Oh no what is going to happen to me!?” She giggled but snorted as she was going to hold her amusement.

“Actually, your whole face is red,” Runi said, pointing at her.  “Are you sure you’re okay?”

Sam flinched and let out a frustrated gasp. She hid her face again. “Of course..” She groaned. “I am, I am” she repeated quickly.

“Agh, what the–” Shelby yelped, startled by Sofie suddenly flopping on her.  She twisted around but couldn’t reach her.  “Oh no, not your dreaded Burning Grip!  Whatever shall I do?” she said with a melodramatic tone.  She turned ina  circle pretending to shake Sofie off of her.

Sofie giggled thrilled as her body actually got warmer. She hugged Shelby tighter, but gently. “I shall beat thou finally!” Her legs dragged around freely as Shelby turned around.

Runi flinched away from the slap as it hit him.  “Sorry I dropped you.  Are you alright?”  He smiled at her hopefully.

“I am..” Sam groaned slightly and gently removed hands from her red face. “I just bashed my head to the ground. I suppose there’s a red spot on my forehead…”

Shelby chuckled, took Sofie’s hand, but had no idea what to do.  She was not good at this sort of thing.  “The uh…Blue…um…The Blue Viper?” she shrugged awkwardly.  That was probably good enough for her pose as well.  This was all ridiculous, but that’s what made it so comical.

Sofie giggled amused. “The Burning Red and The Blue Viper meet again!” She flopped on her back and wrapped her arms around her shoulders. “I shall get you this time my blood enemy!”

“I was distracted,” Runi said, taking several deep breathes.  “You certainly are heavier than I remember,” he said with a chuckle, “and a lot softer…” he mumbled afterwards, turning from her and rubbing his neck.  

Sam gave him a quick slap on his shoulder with a snort. She rubbed her forehead more moaning. Even her head still hurt it was still red. She didn’t want to remove her hands from her face.

Shelby was not expecting the superhero poses, and it was pretty dorky, but also really adorable.  “Oh?  You’ve got some pretty good ones, though,” Shelby said before laughing.  “I didn’t know you were a super hero!  What’s your super hero name?”

“I am the Burning Red!” She said proudly and tapped her chest. “And you’re my enemy, named-..” She paused for her answer and offered a hand to get her up, and show poses herself.

Shelby chuckled, took Sofie’s hand, but had no idea what to do.  She was not good at this sort of thing.  “The uh...Blue...um...The Blue Viper?” she shrugged awkwardly.  That was probably good enough for her pose as well.  This was all ridiculous, but that’s what made it so comical.

Runi was vaguely aware of a softness suffocating him, and a weight pressing down on him.  Primarily, however, was the fact he couldn’t breath.  He flailed and tried to get a hold of Sam on top of him so he could lift her off.

With his help, Sam rolled on her back next to him, holding her head. “Well wasn’t that graceful ghhh..” She mumbled.

“That’s good.  I’ll do whatever it takes to keep you safe,” Shelby said, nodding at Sofie.  It was also a confirmation with herself, she knew, because she didn’t know what she’d do if anything were to happen to Sofie.  

“I’ll keep you safe with my ok dishes and warm bed in return I guess because that’s what all I can do” Sofie laughed. “I guess I can do cool super hero poses if that counts” She jumped off the sofa and showed a few she had seen on just released super hero comic at the super market.

“What can I say, I’m graceful in the air,” Runi said with mock egotism.  “Now it’s your turn!” he roared, grabbing Sam by the waist and trying to pick her up.  His face got buried in her chest, which was quite distracting, and he lost momentum.  Her weight started to cause him to bend backwards, until finally he fell.    

“AHH?!” Sam yelled in confusion and embarrassment as she grabbed Runi’s shoulders. “Runi!” Sam groaned all embarrassed with blood making her face red. With a crash she  faceplanted the grass. She went thru’ a quick blackout but soon after the crash she moaned in pain, Runi still under her.

Shelby also blushed a bit but shrugged the compliment away.  “I’ve just picked up stuff out of necessity, that’s all.  I still have a lot to learn about living a…well more normal life.  I never should have relied on the people I relied on for so long.  You’re a much more dependable person.  And safer, too!”  She laughed a bit.  And cuter, she thought.  

“Those two lives are different. Sometimes they cross, but usually don’t. I think it is still good to know how to survive if must.. but .. I suppose it is dangerous, even it is sometimes required in our world..” Sofie shrugged and glanced away. “But.. I am glad you think me as a safe person” she giggled sweetly at her. “I do feel safe with you too. I always do”
