   He doesn’t doubt that she means it, especially with the times she’s told

     him in the past. It was just hard to believe that someone did care, 

     especially after what he’d been through. Though, he had a feeling she

     understood that much. It wasn’t easy for him to adjust, but he would try…

     especially for her.

     “..You would not be wrong. I have truthfully never had a friend before.”

    “I’m honored to be among the first,” she admitted, and there was not a hesitation of doubt. As long as she could help it, Hawke intended to be a lifelong friend, if possible. They all – Fenris, Merrill, Anders, Aveline, Varric, Isabela, Sebastian – were dear to her, and were unconditionally treated like her family.

    “—Please, take care of yourself, okay?”

   He cannot help but react to that every single time she says it, his 

     expression morphing and his gaze wandering. It’s just something that hits

     him every time, his only answer ever being silence, but his eyes talk. “So 

     you always tell me,” he then says after a long while.

    “And so I always mean,” she added, a small smile and a nod accompanying her. Perhaps it was not necessary to remark all the time, but perhaps it was more of assurance to herself – that she indeed had friends, and she would do all she could to look out for them.

    “Might I be so bold to believe you feel the same?”

   “I just…feel as if it is my responsibility to take Danarius. I do not wish to

     involve you in my personal affairs.” Fenris does say this, yes, but he also

     recognizes where she is coming from and what she means. “But…I am not

     ungrateful for your support. If you so wish to assist me, then I suppose I

     cannot further deny you.”

    “I’m your friend, Fenris.” Hawke considered offering a comforting hand, but she decided against it. The topic regarding Danarius was particularly delicate for Fenris, so perhaps respect for personal space was for the best.

    “It’s only natural to offer my support.”

“You hit your head pretty hard.”

“Don’t move.”

“I know it hurts, I’m sorry.”
